While most of the RU-vidr’ reviews always mention the good of the camera, this reviewer mentioned the shortcomings, it is useful for me to make a decision.
Excellent review. I as regretting buying the Z5 instead of this one. But after viewing your review I’m glad to have gone with the more ergonomic choice.
One huge advantage of the a7c vs the a73 for stills is real time tracking AF which the a73 does not have. On the A73, I switch between AF-S and AF-C as needed, and I use the joystick all the time. On the a7C, I just leave it on AF-C, center point and focus-recompose, no need to move focus points, because AF tracking is that good.
@@mirrorlessny Video mainly. My point is that besides the size of the sensor, the specs on the two cameras are very similar, and if I’m going to upgrade, it would be more valuable to wait an upgrade to something like the A7S three
@@phucmapvlog $1.7k vs $4k isn’t even comparable . A7S3 is great for millionaires hobbyist or professorial videographers. Def not cam for majority of consumers.
I agree with all your points! The A7c could've been the camera to move all Sony APS-C users to Full-frame. But at its current price the A6400 still would be better value, at least for nonprofessional RU-vid videos. Thanks for the honest and to-the-point review 👍👍

Great review. Counter point to why I'm looking at this body. I own an a6300 and a7rVI. The a6300 is for when I want small and light but also for backup... So as a backup the a7c is a MUCH better option because it's a better sensor but also FF so if something happened mid shoot with the a7riv, I can use the same lenses on this and get good enough files. Second is it would bring my kit back to ONE battery (I've shot with sony's since the a7rii which had the smaller battery so they matched back then). That would be awesome. So for me as a backup and a travel/small camera it's a better option over the a7iii. And I'm used to the (horrible!) small controls from the a6300 anyway. They really should have left C1 and C2 on the top though. I'm hoping you can customize the record button? Also the lack of AEL and AF on the back is a PITA. I have a switch on the a6300 which trips me up coming from the A7 series but I switch between eye AF and normal AF a lot. What's the walk around there with just the one button? Oh and finally, for me, for travel/small camera usage, I'd still be more than happy to use APS-C lenses on it and get 10mp images. When I want small MP don't matter but lens options do far more, so this body would be great with it's kit zoom and the 10-18mm as a tiny 2 lens setup for travel shooting... I'm sold I just won't spend $1700 on it. The price needs to come down around the $1k mark then I'll sell my a6300 for one.
I think this is for people who want to upgrade from APS-C to full frame. I would rather wait for a7iv which the rumor says will have 32-35 mega pixel resolution which is better for these former APS-C users to use their APS-C lenses in crop mode on a full frame camera.
Most of the cons mentioned would just be personal preferences. What if I didn't need all those buttons around and don't mind the view finder size. I don't care about the jiggly clips. The front dial is now facing you, and I'll probably wouldn't use a joystick since it has touch screen. I don't mind the menu, its just a menu. Would like double SD but oh well. I feel like these things are what makes this camera Compact... A7 Compact.
I know it’s really minor, but I absolutely hate how the grip texture looks. Seems like a really nice camera though and a very interesting addition to the lineup.
bought it for these reasons: 1 - updated auto focus... this this is amazing! Did a photo shoot a few days ago, 550 shots..EVERYONE in very crisp focus! 2- no record limit... I work with a melodrama group who"s plays are over 2 hours long with a break in the middle. try recording that with a 30 minute time limit! 3- the flip screen... placement of the camera when recording the play is in such a place this will help a bunch!.. 4 - no worry about overheat.. 5 - did I mention the focus system? eye detect in video works great! .6 - battery life is amazing also. -- the bad : viewfinder is kind of lame, but getting used to it... PS the grip is fine and I have large hands. I could have been bigger but that defeats the purpose of a compact camera....
great video. Is the Sony a7c camera suitable for long-term filming? For example, two hours of non-stop record? Doesn't the temperature of the camera rise? 
This was a great review man. Agree with a lot of your points. I honestly just wish it was cheaper. The fact that you can get an a7iii for less doesn't sit well with me. Would definitely be interested in picking this up as maybe a 2nd camera or backup if the price ever drops though!
Very informative review - thank you - I have the Sony a6400 with 50mm - 16-50mm - 55-210mm -18-105 and 70-350 - I can't make up my mind whether togo for the Sony A7c - one day I think yes and the next no - I was thinking of purchasing just the body with the Tamron 17-28mm f/2.8 Di III RXD Lens - can u read my mind- any suggestions - perhaps wait till the next A7C mark2 comes out ??
it's a huge upgrade in terms of portability/size/weight, but A7C has tiny viewfinder like on a6xxx series so it can be an issue if you rely on viewfinder a lot
I was excited about this camera and its tangefinder design until I noticed the lack of manual controls, like only one wheel for example. Big downside if you like to shoot manual.
Thanks for the video. Really nice how you talk to the camera. The A7C is a strange one for sure, but to me, as an A7III owner that also makes RU-vid videos, this actually make sense. I can just have one camera for one purpose and that is online videos creation (A7C) and then the other for going into the field and taking both photos and videos (A7III). I only wished that they lowered the price even more, because now I'm using the A6400 for video creation and the image quality is pretty much the same in terms of video

If I have an a6400 and want to upgrade to a full frame, keeping Sony in mind, is this even worth considering or should I just pony up for an A7S3/A7 in general
It depends on what you need but the main benefit from A6400 is the battery life and low light performance. If you want the best of the best, get the A7SIII, if you want more portability and save $1700, get the A7C.
@Hyun Ralph Jeong yeah A7S3 is best for heavy video work + epic 4k/120, I think A7S3 is the true "next generation" from Sony, combines too many good things = selfie,ibis,touchMenu,highFPS,lowLight,battery,,,,,im editing a review of it & the "negatives" part is a bit poor/not much to complain about 😏
@@antovega2 yes I can understand. I'll only use it for a few pre planned shots 4 - 5 seconds at the most. I usually have a shot I like to add with a bit of motion but don't want to pack a gimbal.
Big mistake at 1:44 - there is no extra shallower depth of field. Focal length AND aperture must be multiplied by the crop factor. So you should have compared with a 24mm ~F/2.0 instead. You took 1.4 which - of course - makes a blurrier background.
The whole point was to show that you can get shallower DOF on full frame. You can go to 1.4 to 2.0 on full frame, but you can't go from 1.4 to 0.9 on crop sensor. Plus multiplying aperture is just a guideline, not an exact formula. The bokeh varies too much by lens.
I am a newbie when it comes to cameras and I am interested in starting a RU-vid channel soon and I have been heavily leaning towards the Canon EOS RP due to price but I’m just not really familiar with lenses and no matter how many videos I’ve watched I’m still confused! could you (or anyone) help me with a lens that’s great for getting up close for beauty videos? Thx.
If you want my honest opinion, the EOS RP might be an overkill if you're a beginner and full frame lenses are quite expensive. I would recommend the Canon M50 with a Sigma 16mm f1.4, and get some good lighting. You can probably get all that for the price of the RP.
@@HyunRalphJeong agree, if I'm not mistaking the new menu needs the "dual-chip Bionz XR processor" like in A7S3, so all previous gen chips are not made to deal with new touch menu a73/a7c/a7r4 etc....

@@enco_m That's how I learned English as well. Watching movies with subtitles and reading them out loud. It was helpful because you get to hear how the words sound and you also learn how to use them.
For me it is "not fish not meat". One good thing is the fully articulating screen. But handling seems bad for many reasons. Furthermore no full touchmenue...and so on. I would prefer some other cameras instead of this, sorry: not worth the money. Feeling no sympathy for this Sony.
@@bfs5113 I feel you on this one haha, I’ve been wanting a Q or the newer Q2 haven’t tried one yet but I recently got a SL2 and the evf is one of the best I ever used.
False... this is the best camera for professional portrait photographers sony makes. Its the only sony that shoots higher than 12mp stills with a flip screen. Most fashion is shot at waist level making the flip screen a must have like the waist level viewfinder of old. Second the eye tracking system makes all the custom buttons unnecessary... leave the camera in afc always with wide tracking focus area and you will never miss a shot. The dual card slot is no issue since the camera supports wireless tether unlike the a73.
@@HyunRalphJeong I still have an a7r3 and a7r4- they are nice- I prefer the a7c for portrait work. I also have used the EOS R which I liked but recently switched by Sony. The a7r4 consumes way too much hard drive space to be practical for fashion
