When will we see a review of the LG QNED TVs? Will the 8k (99 Series) be necessary or will the 4K with older processor be good enough? I have a plasma tv with burn-in, so I’m weary of OLED. Or can I pull the trigger on the Sony A80J and not worry?
@kojak99100
@kojak99100 3 года назад
@@kylemaroun6903 I was worried about burn in too… nevertheless I tried my first OLED about 2 years ago (65A8G). No burn in or image retention issues at all. (I don’t game on it). So that gave me the confidence to get the A90J. I think this generation of OLED’s is much less susceptible to burn in than the early generations were.

Hey Caleb! First off, thank you for what you do, I love watching your content and you definitely help the decision-making process. You did ask once for suggestions about what we'd like to see, and maybe it's just me but I think it'd be beneficial to actually mention prices at the time of making your videos. Like in this instance it would've been useful to compare both prices of these TVs. That's just one man's humble opinion. Keep doing what you're doing!

I bought the 65A80J a few weeks ago and I love it. Upgraded from a 50 inch HD Vizio M-Series. Man I couldn’t be more pleased. Finally enjoying 4K and HDR. I’m binging old shows and dusting off old Blu-rays. And I’m with you Caleb couldn’t justify right now shelling out $4000+ to enjoy greater brightness. These TVs shine not only in contrast but those specular highlights even in SDR. That processor just makes shiny things pop along with doing a hell of a job handling low quality stuff. And though not an A90J the A80J is plenty bright. And as far as audio quality I use my home theater system anyways. I’m happy with my purchase. Thanks for the comparison and sensible analysis. Hope you hit those million subscribers.

Hi Celeb, Great comparison as always! As I mentioned in one of your old reviews of Sony A9G, I've got the A9G 77 inch and I'm very happy with it. Yes, I do like the new adjustable stand of A9J but quality wise I believe they are very similar when you don't take the brighter panel into consideration. For that, I have the LG G1 Oled and I'm okay with having different TVs as they all have something unique to offer. Thank you once again and I can honestly tell you, you are offering very valuable information for those that are about to make a purchase of a new TV set sitting on the fence about what they should do and I really appreciate that. And I'm sure a lot of folks would have agreed with me. Keep up the great job, Celeb!

..for every other situation you need to "move" or extend that 203 margin further into higher luminance.. so that you still can perceive what is happening (just like when you are listening to music in the car in a noisy environment).. but.. What happens when you watch 980nit content with a 750nit panel?
@absolutium
@absolutium Год назад
..well it gets worse the nit count which was already lacking in the begining is going to get worse due to degradation every single year we are using it.. at some point we are going to be watching a 450nit panel trying to show detail from 1000 or 4000 nit content.

Another fantastic review Caleb! Absolutely love your work and reviews. Down to earth, honest, and exactly what the average consumer to TV enthusiast needs. I just purchased the A80j and it arrives this weekend. I’m super excited! I’m returning it from the x2 x95J’s I had that had really bad screen uniformity issues (grid DSE) on both. I know this set will not be as bright (in my very bright room) but hopefully the contrast ratio helps. It looks like the 77” has a glossy finish Vs the 65 and 55 so that should help. Fingers crossed, it’s my first OLED!

I bought my A80J 65" a month ago and I'm in love with the picture quality and features of that TV. Paired with my Sony 7.2 a/v system is like having a movie theater at home. A90J might be "better" but its price is too much, at least for me. Once you have the A80J at home you will be amazed and will not miss the A90J at all. And let me tell you this, in real live A80J is so bright that sometimes it is hard to look at the screen when there is too much white on the scene. So I don't know why someone would want anything brighter than that, unless you're used to watch TV with sunglasses on. Also don't judge it by the quality of the image coming from your cable box or Internet tv provider. It will be 1080p at best but even with that it looks fantastic. Try watching 4k HDR or even 8K from RU-vid and other sources and that is where this TV really shines.

That's the shame of it - cable has terrible picture quality and it's where most of us still watch most of the content... It's 1080i at best but the bit rate makes it closer to 480p and 720p... Also set your cable box to 1080i, not 1080p. You don't want the cable box doing any upscaling - you want your TV to do ALL the upscaling.

I am running a Panasonic DP UB820-k 4k player and an Apple TV 4K through my Sony 3.1 HT-Z9F sound bar using the eARC. I use Rocketfish 8k ultra high speed DMI cables. Is this the best way to achieve the best sound and picture quality? Or should I be running the cables directly to the tv from the video sources? thank you in advance

Bought the A80J65 the first week it began shipping. I upgraded from a 2016 Samsung LCD. A80J has been fantastic. My TV sits on a stand that is only 40 inches in width so the A80J's flexible stand settings were a big consideration. I use the default Cinema settings with the Netflix setting for HDR. The image is stunning. Also, very happy that Sony went with Google TV for the interface. Other companies with proprietary UI will have to adopt this at some point. The Sony A80J currently is the number one TV in this product category when considering Picture, Features, and Price.

Awesome video! I’m still rocking my 60” plasma (2013 Panasonic TC-P60ST60.) The panel currently has 14,550 trouble free hours on it, and still looks stunning when viewing high-quality content. The only problem has been that the optical audio out port broke (literally crumbled) over a year ago so I can’t use the soundbar any longer. I am seriously considering upgrading this Fall to the Sony A80J 65” OLED. From all I’ve read, if you love the look of plasma then OLED is the only thing you’ll be happy with.

Bought the A80J 77" 8 weeks ago. LOVE IT. My only advice is to hardwired the internet instead of using wi-fi, why? Sony also includes Bravia subscription, which streams IMAX Ultra 4k Atmos between 50mbps-100mbps. HBOMAX and Netflix also offered 4k Ultra Dolby Atmos, but a bit compressed, still you want the fastest speed for the best Ultra 4k quality. I tried using the wifi feature and Netflix, HBOMAX, and BRAVIA TV suffered from buffering when streaming Ultra 4k and picture quality changes from 4k to 1080 depending how busy your wireless wifi is working.

Caleb, when I adjust a high dynamic image in photoshop or lightroom, more often than not I'll bring down the whites and the blacks while bumping up the shadows and highlights (then bump down the whites even more to make up for those same brightened highlights). This way (or me), highlight detail isn't lost and my eyes aren't blown out by the brightest parts of the image--but the mid-highlights and shadows are bumped up for greater vibrance and detail. Is there a way to adjust these Sony sets that does roughly the same thing?

I agree with you on the A80J and the price difference relative to the available sizes of the two models, I would get the A90J 83” but Sony priced themselves out of what I would spend on a dang television lol, great review. Does this review cover all sizes of both models? I would be interested in a larger than 65" size in my next TV. I have been thoroughly enjoying my 65" Panasonic TC-P65VT60 Plasma set for several years and I'd like my next set to be larger in order to enhance the theater-like experience. I'm wondering if there are any noticeable differences in the picture performance of the larger size versions of these two new SONY sets, or does the review apply only to the 65" models.

These days it is virtually impossible to buy a "bad" tv. However, I bought the 83 A90J anyway. I am not wealthy, however, I have a good job and I save money when I can. Home theater is a very important quality of life issue to me and I could not resist an OLED at this size and this price. Just a few years ago, a 77 inch OLED was over $25K. Also, my local brick and mortar A/V shop treats me very well and always gives me an extremely fair trade in value on the last TV I bought from them.

@@jaedin716sw So sorry Jaedin716sw - just saw this. Very happy with my 83 A90J. It was a bit quirky the first year, but always remedied by a restart. It's basically flawless now. My one complaint is how it handles Dolby Vision from blu ray discs - I always end up switching my OPPO 203 HD Blu Ray player to HDR as it looks superior every time. No issue with Dolby Vision from all the streaming services - just on Blu Ray discs. Again, sorry for the delay in responding to you!

I had planned to get A80J, glad to see you agree. My concern was mainly heat, I have heard the A90J gets significantly hotter, you can heat your room with it! I do with the A80J had the center channel input, but I probably wouldn't use it anyway since I have a dedicated system.

I bought the Sony A80J in a 65 inch for $1799 and the picture quality is amazing! I thought about purchasing the A90J but I couldn't justify an extra $1000 for HDR brightest. A80J is a great TV ! Motion can be a bit of a concern, I turned of the cinema motion, and set motionflow to custom, and clearness to 1 and smoothness to max because I watch a lot cable TV. However, if one likes to watch 4k's and Blu-Rays the cinema motion should be set to high. One thing about motion is suppose to be smooth. These settings are my experience and I think just make the motion tolerable.

I was debating between the 65” A90J and the 77” A80J and I opted for the 77” A80J and I couldn’t be happier. I have an external sound system so any audio is irrelevant to me. The maximum amount of brightness possible from a TV also isn’t too important to me as I prefer a more natural calibrated look that doesn’t get brighter than the sun haha! The A80J checked all the boxes for me. I was also able to get it for under $3,100 “out the door” so that was awesome too.
