Good luck. There are a few simple errors that can be corrected but a total system failure I would not expect to be repairable.

No. The ability to record video to memory stick did not exist in any tape based camcorder. It was for photos only in this model. Thanks for watching

Let me qualify that no tape based camcorder I know if can record full resolution video clips to memory card. Some can do postage stamp sized low resolution video clips of limited duration. By the time full resolution recording to memory card became feasible the tape era was over and you will find this on harddrive and DVD camcorders.

Absolutely you can erase the video on tape as many times as you like. Usually back in the day, when the tape got full, you simply bought more tapes as there was nothing else to store the video. Today you can transfer the video to the computer and erase the tape and start over. Thanks for watching.

@1:56 I rotate the switch that turns it on. If yours is not turning on then battery is probably dead. I bought one that wouldnt stay on for more than a second even with fresh battery. Thanks for watching.

The Sonys are notorious for the tape sensor getting dirty and then not accepting the tape. Sometimes its possible to clean it with compresed air. Thanks for watching.

@@Joseph-on7nf I do not have a repair video on that. In my experience a new battery will not help. Note whatever error code it is giving you and search for that. This particular camera is starting to do the same thing. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. Good luck.

I dont have a PC100, but from the contemporary articles I read the PC5 is smaller. Seems like every few years Sony went on a binge to build the smallest possible camera. The PC5 was it until the PC55 came out, which I believe to be the smallest ever tape based camera. Yes even smaller than the micro mv cameras. Thanks for watching.

I visited the Sony building while I was in Tokyo. Very impressive company. They do have a way of doing things their own way which can be annoying. Ignoring industry standards and establishing their own proprietary way of doing things is legendary. But occasionally they come up with good ideas, like Digital 8. Thanks for watching.

To connect to a TV use the proprietary av to video cable. To connect to a computer use the firewire.

​@@WaybackRewind FireWire works well? Say if I did what you showed in part 2 or 7 of your series, would that be the way to get the best footage from it? Or maybe in older versions the quality isn't as good as the newer firewires and more recommended to use av or s-video Thanks for always responding!

If your camera shoots digitally and has a firewire then using the firewire will always be the highest quality. You will get the data stream in its native format without conversion losses. Even if its an older analog video converting to DV and using the firewire will probably still be the highest quality.
