Also the S&Q options and cache recording you discussed are right on. I completely agree and love the FS5M2 for that very reason.

I also run with an Inferno 100% of the time on my FS5M2, so there is very little reason to upgrade until the following line comes out. I may be jumping back over to Nikon, we shall see.

This video doesn’t show it, but I did get the 8sinn ARRI baseplate for the setup. Even with the Cartoni head being able to slide to different balance points, it would max out. So now I keep my Cartoni centered and can move the 8sinn front and back for balance and when I add the 2x. Adds some more weight but it seems a little more stable.

However, with the one I bought I don't find it to be as sharp. It's ok, but not on the same level. So there are variance issues to be aware of and it might come down to finding the right pairing. I kick myself for not buying the one I rented.

How's the weight of the Vmount compared to 2 batteries in the Atomos and a bigger one in the FS5? I've thought about going that route but weight is starting to concern me. If I'm being honest with myself and not trying to be all macho, my setup is teetering the limit of what my aging shoulder can handle without doing more damage to it.

@@RyanMenseWildlife I prefer the v mount then the NPF batteries. Just finished filming 72 hours in the Gulf Fishing and used the inferno paired with the V mount. Worth it in my opinion and just works

Cache recording is now available in FX6 with v2.00 firmware.

With video, the camera's shutter speed is generally going to be around double the frame rate. So because the shutter speed is going to be set at say 1/120s or 1/125s for 60p footage, and your ISO is going to already be at its lowest native setting, you kind of only have the aperture to control exposure. When it's sunny out and you're exposing at 1/125s, the aperture of the lens would have to be so stopped down that you run into problems with diffraction. Plus you lose the ability to make a creative choice about the depth of field. So with photography, there's the exposure triangle, but in video, it's more like an exposure square, with neutral density filters being the fourth method of exposure control. With the ND filter, you can now have full creative control over shutter speed, ISO, and aperture, because the filter is finalizing the look of the exposure instead of the aperture.

Some big trade offs that complicates things, but probably yes. Sony doesn’t really have an obvious upgrade path for the FS5 for wildlife and the clock is ticking.
