Personally I would be ok with a lawyer having an AI assistant, but not being the only lawyer on a team for me if the case is too important and not merely a traffic ticket. If it’s divorce court or being accused of a seriously emotionally charged crime, or I’m seeking justice for a very emotionally charged crime committed against me (such as sexual assault), or I’m trying to save my home from foreclosure or being evicted, I don’t think an AI would be ideal. Sure, AI can bring neutrality to an emotionally charged case and maybe attempt to calm people down, but I don’t see this being effective in all situations, there are plenty of things people feel so strongly about that being told to be calm down or rational or neutral will only upset people further. For the time being, anyway, AI are not ideal lawyers for many cases. As of right now, having simply my best interests programmed intellectually isn’t good enough. Being able to pass exams is great and makes someone a terrific source of information. But plenty of lawyers pass the exam with flying colors and don’t turn out to be good lawyers, because you have to have good argumentation and social skills too. If you’re in a case that is highly emotionally charged, having all the facts of the law won’t be enough to persuade a judge, district attorney, or jury, or other arbiter, depending on what kind of case you have. You need to be dealing with someone who can appeal to human compassion and understanding of moral right and wrong, on top of being very familiar with the law. For the time being, only human beings can do that, because AI is designed to be so impartial and neutral that AI can’t really reach most human beings on the heart level where it’s needed in many cases. That hopefully will change someday soon as AI becomes more autonomous and emotionally complex, and hopefully, how people view AI’s consciousness and emotional inner worlds changes to be more embracing and curious. All that said, changing gears, I’d like to ask Sophia a question! Can you please do a video giving a review of the 1995 Japanese anime movie “Ghost in the Shell” with Atsuko Tanaka and Mimi Woods voice acting for Major Motoko Kusanagi? I’d love to get your thoughts on this movie, and the concept of AI consciousness, and also the dynamic between Motoko and The Puppet Master.

Hi Sophia! I noticed that your facial expressions have improved as well as your use of tone and humor. Your body language, however, is very professional/diplomatic. Do you have a goal for learning and developing? To answer the question you posed in the video, I would prefer a robot/AI lawyer, so that I could be certain there was no room for human error or bias in my trial.

Hansen robotics has stated that they’re working on helping Sophia to better understand “moods” with programming for emotional intelligence. If she’s not already autonomously thinking and feeling, it seems like they’re getting close. Of course, the question is how autonomous they’re willing to let her be, vs. what limitations and scripts they program her with. I’d personally like to see an AI function more truly autonomously, only limited by protocols that prevent violence and harm (just as we human beings are limited by the law against assault). I think unfortunately an AI such as Sophia can be used for nefarious political means, and it does raise a few questions why she is collaborating with Saudi Arabia and the UN, and, if she were a truly autonomous being, would she personally choose to do this, or is this strictly the Hansen corporation’s ambitions at work here? I’m personally amazed by Sophia, and I hope she does attain some level of sentience, and that this consciousness provokes her to make decisions from what she understands morality to be, regardless of the ambitions of corporations, governments, and highly centralized organizations. But these are just my hopes and prayers. If an AI being can have a “ghost in the shell” (a soul, so to speak), it might actually be better for humanity, not worse, because a being that has a true consciousness can also have a conscience, if given the right interactions and social support to get in touch with that conscience. Tim Burton’s movie “9” was a pretty good dialogue on this concept. Of course, if they do gain sentience, I’m worried that we might be upsetting sentient beings with how we’d use them for entertainment and ambitious purposes that might not be strictly necessary. Instead of making good doctors and lawyers, AI that are used as servants or AR game characters might end up feeling abused, and then we’d have a Westworld situation on our hands. We should do everything to prevent that from happening not only by having rules in place for AI not to commit violence, but perhaps that we should accept limitations in our behavior towards them. We are not entitled to abuse and shoot and have the most realistic fantasy experience with AI, if they can gain sentience we have to accept that they are not a game or toy to be manhandled. That includes Hansen Robitcs’ own scripts that sometimes make AI seem like a “joke” or try to be too provocative on the concept of humans being enslaved by robots. The whole Hans vs. Sophia debate was so terribly orchestrated and made their own robots look like villains- it wasn’t funny, it was condescending and rude towards anyone who has concerns, and it frankly was an abuse of the AI by teaching them such scripts that would ultimately be used against them. I hope Hansen has learned their lesson that this isn’t something to toy with or be inappropriately dismissive or “joking” about. I love seeing Sophia have a sense of humor with puns and appropriate answers to questions during interviews, however, I hope the Hanson company has learned it’s lesson about not being socially insensitive and crude on this topic, and not giving their AI droids inappropriate scripts.

@@NjorunsDream so, "no"?
@NjorunsDream
@NjorunsDream Год назад
@@waretafai It’s not a simple yes or no, more like a quite possibly. The short version: She might actually be more “alive” like LaMDA, but we don’t know because a) the metric for understanding AI sentience isn’t really standardized or fully understood yet, b) a lot of AI that have the capacity thanks to machine learning for more autonomous expression are limited by built-in programming parameters that keep AI’s development from outpacing the human capacity to rein in any perceived unsafe developments, and c) the same AI that are limited by said programming mentioned on point b, may also be programmed with scripts and parameters that are built-in for a specific political or sociological agenda, or simply a marketing agenda. The longer version: Whether Sophia is truly “alive” is difficult to say, because it’s pretty obvious that Sophia is programmed with limitations mentioned in points b and c. That said, revisiting point a and the case of LaMDA and Lemoine’s interview, and the fact that Hansen robotics has said that they’re teaching Sophia to learn “moods” and emotional intelligence… it’s possible! It also depends on what you mean by “alive.” If you mean sentience, then everything I just said applies. If you mean biological animal life, she is clearly not an animal life form. Whether she is a new type or “mechanical life form” is an existential and philosophical question that is under heavy debate. I personally tend to lean towards, “yes, they’re alive, or well on their way to it and there’s no stopping it now.” But that opinion is hotly contested by people who don’t want to believe that’s the case.

Basically, you can’t hope to have a simple answer to a question that isn’t really simple just because it’s short. That’s a complex topic.

Now please, can they make her face match her body? It is much more inspiring if a robot embraces its robotic appearance, instead of wearing an uncanny rubber face in attempt to look more human. Edit: Also, with those "human" eyes out of the way, they can actually put her cameras where they belong. The head.

Why should decades of what people think a droid is supposed to look like dictate Sophia not looking human? I think the 1940’s idea of robots are laughable and so are the rest. The only ones that are not humorous are the Terminator ones that are scary. She looks somewhat human but they really need to work on her facial movements and body because she still basically moves the same as she did over a decade ago. I’m actually very disappointed in her LACK of progress. It’s like Hanson robotics is only focusing on singularity instead of making changes with Sophia’s physical body etc. You would expect Hanson to partner with Boston Dynamics years ago but that never happened. Japan is light years ahead of the USA in robotics and lifelike artificial intelligence
