Sora Joins Smash Ultimate and Brings a LAZY Kingdom Hearts Cloud Collection to Switch 

I could understand Kingdom Hearts 3 being a cloud game, but the other games? It honestly doesn’t make sense to me…

Kingdom Hearts deserved better. These are the kind of games that would have been excellent on the go.

With these games being cloud only it defeats the purpose of putting these games on a portable system.

Thankfully I already got the KH games on PS4. But yeah I was baffled when I saw the cloud versions of the game. And now you know how I felt about Travis Touchdown being a mii costume and not an actual character.

Yeah that KH collection being cloud only when they’re PS2, PSP and 3DS games remade for PS3 was a BIG disappointment. Part of me wants to wait to see if they will make a physical version. If not than HARD PASS to me.

The fact they even included the doom slayer into this game as a mi fighter is fine in my book. Now I can have them and Isabella tag team together.

These cloud collections are just huge middle fingers to the Switch at this point lmao

When Sakurai casually mentioned kingdom hearts coming to switch i thought I imagined it. Then he said streaming via the cloud system and immediately hoped i imagined it

PERSONALLY, I am glad there is no Disney representation beyond the Mickey logo on the Keyblade. The biggest argument against Goku is that it would be an a non gaming character in the GAMING crossover. Adding Disney stuff just ruins what makes Smash special. A big collaboration of gaming icons.

They had an opportunity to make an amazing collection since they could include the ACTUAL 258/2 Days instead of just the cutscenes since it's on a Nintendo console, but instead they give the switch the worst version of the collection by making it a cloud release, defeating the entire point of a portable Kingdom Hearts experience.

Am I the only one that got excited and thought that the "Cloud Versions"meant playing Kingdom Hearts as Cloud from Final Fantasy? My heart just sank hearing its that they're streaming from a cloud 😭

I really don't know why they made them cloud versions. I'm willing to buy a physical version or delete everything off my micro SD card to play the games.

Cloud versions of remastered ps2 games is more disappointing than not announcing them at all. Still awesome that Sora is in smash.

Disney wasn't the one who didn't want their characters to be added. It's Sakurai rule that he doesn't want to add any characters that are not from gaming. Hence, the reason sora was the only one showed because he is a videogame character designed by Tetusya Nomura and published by Disney.

6:10 I wonder if it's not just Disney, I recall Sakurai admitting that Smash should be a celebration of "video game characters" and it's hard to use Donald or Goofy, because they technically didn't come from videogames. But, like you said, most of this falls on Disney as well, as they ultimately choose how their IP should be represented, and perhaps they were the ones in the end who didn't want any Disney material besides the Mickey keychain on the Kingdom Key (which probably cost a pretty penny too)

Unless Square has physical copies of the Kingdom Hearts Collections and three up their sleeves to reveal later I'm just going to stick to the PS4 versions

the KH1.5 & 2.5 can easily be ported but when it comes 2.8 have a hour long tech demo for KH3 then u need to make some adjustments, but 3 make a lot of sense to have cloud. If they cant sell everything in a collection then they could go the capcom route with DMC releasing each game separately for $15

I thought they were only gonna out Kingdom Hearts on cloud but when I found out it was all the games, it just confirmed to me that they are being lazy like kingdom Hearts 1.5 + 2.5 remix can DEFINITELY run on the switch while 3 could use some re work to run on the switch but they definitely chose the lazy road just to get this quick cash smh………

Old games shouldn't be cloud games on switch. New games that can't run that different. Most of these are on PS3.

Android smartphones can easily emulate the PS2, PSP and 3DS Kingdom Hearts games and of course the GBA and DS titles. But Square Enix can't bother to properly port those games to the Switch. That's really pathetic. This is the major advantage the Steam Deck has over the Switch. You can run ports on hardware with higher resolution and better performance. Better to just get the EGS PC ports and play them on the Steam Deck.

That cloud move was basically just square giving us the middle finger. Especially with all the digital content we got for square enix's other two most popular titles. (Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest)

As a dude who has been playing KH for 20 years, he was done perfectly. Didn't need a single Disney character. Also, I'm sure Sakurai blocked Goofy and Donald. As he said himself, the rule of Smash is, the characters must originate from a video game.

Kingdom Hearts Cloud edition is a slap in the face 👋

My main issue with the cloud only thing is that we don't all have the best internet for constant cloud streaming. Especially on wifi, playing the Switch in portable mode.

On the less negative side, observations: -The burning Smash logo is a fire emblem. -The two sets of six Smash Ultimate DLC fighters followed a pattern: Piranha Plant/Min Min: Green and stretchy first party characters Joker/Steve etc.: Protags of popular modern games that fight with short blades, projectiles, maneuverability tools and fire, and get help in their Final Smashes Dragon Quest Hero/Sephiroth: Bishie magic-using swordies from big-name Square Enix RPGs Banjo & Kazooie/Pyra & Mythra: Two characters in one fighter slot that use each other as weapons and get help mainly from one other character in their Final Smashes Terry/Kazuya: Famous traditional fighting game protags with lesser super moves accessed through desperation mechanics Byleth/Sora: Memey and unexpected bishie RPG protags with highly unusual swords -Byleth was a brilliant troll all around-not just from being Another Fire Emblem Swordie Rep™, but the "too many swordsmen" line from Sothis and the lol gender swap bits in the trailer as well as Sakurai mocking fan logic with the teaser thumbnail gesture that was revealed to be binary counting of the mainline FE entries among other things-but may have also been necessary to be paid in order to offset the costs of licensing other characters, especially Sora. Either way, good thing more fighters were already announced as a thing alongside Terry's reveal. Nintendo and Sakurai may not be total gods, but they're not dumb, either. -Sakurai made the same troll face when putting up the Sora posters as with the Byleth posters. -People should know by now that Nintendo having a say in the Smash fighter picks isn't just stiff-assed business/shallow promotion. It's not just top brass making the calls, and even the top brass isn't totally humorless. Nintendo wouldn't get very far in popularity if those were so. Sakurai himself said that Yabuki was the one that pushed for Min Min, and Iwata wanted the fan poll to be honored.

Actually regardless of Disney or sakurai It a videogame and Disney characters aren't video game characters adding them in the game would basically say that hey since Donald appeared now we can have Donald for smash but no we can't sakurai 1 and only rules is keep it video game only sora fits that bill he was created by square enix therefore he is a video game character he doesn't appear in any TV shows or movies just his own video game so it ok to include him Because he passed the test minus the Disney stuff it worked out great Regardless of no Disney appearance He still can be in smash bros This was by far the best way to end it The most requested character to be included in smash bros ever and he here That alone is big enough

Like you said the only bad things was the games announcement I feel like more people should be calling out Squarenix for their extreme laziness and greedyness. I am so disappointed. Cloud gaming is a failure on the nintendo switch.

Happy to see Sora make it in Smash. I was already satisfied with the roster back when after Bayonetta was revealed and that was way before Ultimate was announced. I don’t think we’ll see anything like this anymore so cherish this moment and buy the game along with the DLC now if you haven’t. Heck, I’ll buy the game again if they released it with all the DLC included in the cartridge.

I'm not too sure it's Disneys fault their wasn't other characters included. While we can't be sure either way Sakurai has said no 4th parties beforehand it's quite possible it was his own desire not to to include them.

I'm not even that much into Kingdom Hearts and this was still very exciting. Partially cause Sora is a good character, but also because it wasn't some character like 3 people wanted. Like imagine if it was one of the Fortnite characters. Probably 0.5% of Smash players would've been happy about that, lol. As for the KH games coming to Switch via crap storm cloud, yeah that's very disappointing. I was like "KH3D was on a physical 3DS cartridge!" I was excited before I saw that they were cloud versions. But overall, the announcement was great and is a great way to end off the DLC for Smash Ultimate.

Publishers will turn to the cloud versions when either budgets aren't offered for development studios to port the games or when the games are too demanding for the hardware. Just so people understand, getting PS3 games running on switch is no easy task. The switch is vastly powerful than the PS3 but the games would need to be made from the ground up. The switch can run every game except KH3 but the money just wasn't there apparently.

I knew these lazy ports would start happening the second Nintendo announce cloud streaming on Switch.

Mega kingdom hearts fan here, I’m completely fine with how they included everything. I’m not disappointed that Disney characters weren’t included, well Disney characters that aren’t kingdom hearts characters, technically all included characters here are Disney. But the traditional Disney characters, sure it would’ve been nice but it doesn’t make or break anything that they’re not here. I actually wanted to stage to be the world that never was, but I’m fine with hollow bastion too. Edit: Doomguy was my second choice

Kingdom Hearts on the Switch being cloud only save Melody of Memory, and that game being necessary to unlock a song in Smash Ultimate, are ABSOLUTELY Square Enix's doing. Thus is the same Square Enix that's recently screwed over three cult-favorite developers, and is in the process of doing the same to a fourth, for quick next-gen cash and, if they fail at it, competition smearing. They're going for the throat now, and this was absolutely part of the deal if Sora were to show in Smash. I can't imagine Sakurai being fine with it, especially considering he was friends with Iwata. And the Switch could ABSOLUTELY handle 1.5+2.5 ReMix and 2.8 ar full frame rate. It has HD remasters of the Final Fantasy Xs and Final Fantasy XII, FFS. 3 would be no big loss as by the time most people would get through the past games, the followup to the Switch would likely be out for a bit. Square Enix has turned into the new Konami.

I guess you could say it's not even in the switch. It's just on a PC or something somewhere streaming it to your console which would make your console just a controller really. In a way it's not even on the console

I wanted Sora so so much, and I honestly prefer it without any other Disney characters in the game. Sora's a video game character, but Donald and Goofy aren't, and I honestly don't really want them in smash bros. People keep saying Disney wouldn't let them in the games, and that is likely to be true, but regardless, Sakurai may have just not wanted them.

I was genuinely hoping for Rayman (more so Croc actually), or at least Crash, but that didn't happen. I'm happy Sora made it it tho, I may not play Kingdom Hearts but he is fun to play as.

As a guy who plays offline games on the Switch and Mostly Switch Lite. It sucks because I would LOVE to play these games portable without the stinking offline cloud issue.

There was NO WAY any Disney characters or properties would’ve shown up in Smash. I’m sure it was already a legal nightmare just to get Sora in the game. Having anything Disney would’ve been…expensive to say the least so nobody can’t be disappointed.

i'm not disappointed that no disney character are in smash with sora as long sora is in smash that's all that matters to me in my opinion i'm just so happy that sora is in smash because i want it sora is smash so badly since i'm a fan of kingdom hearts and this character but the only thing i do agree that it would of been great if kingdom hearts games was on physical version of the nintendo switch i know everybody don't like could stream gaming because most don't like the fact they don't actually own the game well for me i don't mind if i own the game or not i love both all could stream gaming, digital gaming and physical gaming equally i have nothing against regular digital and could gaming in my honest opinion but i get that everybody else is against could gaming but you have to remember there are also some that don't like physical media that only like digital and could gaming yeah i get that there are everybody else that only love physical media over could and digital gaming just like they say can't please everybody but i do agree the square enix company should of made it optional for most people that prefer physical over could gaming, some that prefer regular digital and most that prefer could gaming over physical and digital gaming since i know everyone have their own difference preference i do have faith that they will make physical nintendo switch version of kingdom hearts games maybe they are just trolling us just like they usually do maybe they will confirmed it on a kingom hearts 20th anniversary or a future nintendo direct you never know i think good things happen when we are patient i think anything is possible

I actually think it was Sakurai call. He is really strict on his policy about any character featured in smash, has to be a videogame character in origin. Donald and Goofys appearance would contradict his policy.

I get KH3 Bing cloud-based but why are the others cloud versions? The switch can run a PS2 game if it can run skyrim LA noir and the Witcher 3 then it should be able to run most of the KH games especially birth by sleep

If you think Nintendo is going to put a third party RPG behemoth on the store before BotW2 comes out you’re out of your mind. They aren’t doing anything that will threaten a single dollar made on their golden egg, not a single sale delayed passed day 1 because they offered something just as big for $80 to a few hundred dollars depending whether they just release The Story So Far, the decimal bundles or every one of them individually. That and pretty much every KH games used a different format/engine, and Nintendo has their money in a lot of different big pots right now.

People keep forgetting that kingdom hearts is its own IP sora himself is his own character. Sora has been in a couple of games without Donald and Goofy. Donald and Goofy don’t make sora. I was actually glad they wasn’t there and it was only sora.

This was done because they based it off the PS4 version. They were lazy and didn't want to spend the money to port it

With 1.5 and 2.5 I agree with you Chi-guy. The problem with 2.8 is that it has 0.2 fragmentary passage (which is basically a KH3 graphical level demo) And the back cover movie (Also uses KH3 graphics). Dream drop distance is packaged with those in 2.8 so that game would have to be cloud with KH3. But as for 1.5+2.5, yeah no excuses for that one unless the cloud service gives you 60fps consistently which to be fair the switch itself probably can't do if the PS3 couldn't. It took the PS4 to allow me to get my ass kicked by Lingering will in 60 frames. Now Im still excited that they are on the switch. They may be able to make physical copies or at least digital download copies for the next Nintendo system (though Ideally the former as Nintendo ain't exactly good with storage capacity.

On another note about the inclusion of Disney characters. I don't think Sakurai and his team would have allowed it even if Disney let them due to Disney characters not originating from video games.

I think the Cloud stuff is all about anti consumerism. If you only "own" digital data for the game, do you really own the game then? Right to repair is something companies fear and lobby against all the time. If you have to send in your PS3 to repair the harddrive, that's money going directly to Sony since they get the harddrives dirt cheap and you have to pay them and not some aftermarket for the install. As for the lack of Disney stuff, I think it had more to do with Sakurai than Disney. Sakurai has stated he doesn't want non-gaming icons in Smash. And honestly, I'm kinda shocked Sora even has his Mickey chain because of this. Might've been Disney preventing details being added or removed to/from Sora, but in the grand scheme of things I think Sakurai didn't see that as a big deal that would break his own rule. But having Mickey, Goofy, or other characters actually appear would. I think this self imposed rule was either during or around talks about James Bond appearing in Smash.

Dude at this point I'm happy sora is in smash. Just play KH Collection on the PS4/5. Feels like people will be pissed off on anything nowadays. Less money spent rebuying them all at the end of the day.

To be fair about the cloud games and trust me I agree with you these suck to high heaven, how much do you think it would have cost them to put that game together on the switch natively? I'm not saying I disagree with you if anything I do whole heartedly agree with you but you got to take into account that it would probably take a lot of money and a lot of time and that's something I doubt square is willing to part with.
