I believe this is a natural progression due to the dwindling birthrate and the growing number of multiracial families in South Korea. I could understand and applaud this brave young man who is half Korean after all, not a foreigner, deciding to embrace and accept the part of his namesake father's heritage that defines who he is as well. Hope he is as proud of himself as his family is with him. We should encourage the multiracial children to wear their Korean heritage with pride.
He isn't a foreigner at all. He's from Korea, speaks Korean, has a Korean parent. It must be tough to grow up in Korea as someone even slightly different from the rest.
I mean US military is mostly non-Asian and they have had a presence in South Korea since the Korean War. I don't see why race matters when it comes to protecting freedom?
I purposely didn't get dual citizenship because the military service is a gray area. Well, and don't want Korean law apply to me ie no gambling, harsh drug laws etc
Also pls note a lot but not too much of a lot of Korean men have been marrying non Korean women for the past 1-2 years. Out of all the multicultural Korean families im subscribed to, only one of them is a Korean woman with a white guy raising their son in Virginia but they took him to Korea for the 1st time so the woman’s dad and siblings could meet their son in person.
Thank you for your service. It's sad anytime there is racism, and it should not be tolerated. What does your color or ethnicity have to do with anything? I've never understood this mentality. Let's play will all of the kids on the playground...not just some of them...remember those days?
I mean because he’s a citizen Seventeen’s Vernon who’s half white (and also has a white French American mom like this half Austrian guy who has a white Austrian mom) but has Korean citizenship and will eventually have to do Military service
If you're a man of any age why not move to Korea spend 2 years in the army then come out a "bold brave hero who *cares* enough about Korea to serve" it gets you a great job and many free easy women. This happens to any foreign men even if you don't serve. Just imagine the easy life you will have, more free sex, women and higher paying jobs than typical hagwon waegook You'll see more of this real soon
@@xPidgexSmithx salty isn't even a word to describe the white and "western" privilege. Happens when you Hollywood and white media putting down only one race for 170 years bud. Race Privilege is facts and affects everyone even white (to a lesser extent)
The usual ignorant Asians who think all Europeans speak English. Honestly, if I had to choose between Austrian and Korean citizenship, I would choose the Austrian one a thousand times (I am Italian). If the armed forces now allow mixed children, it will be fortunate for all the soldiers who will serve together with half-foreign children, because they will have the opportunity to escape a little from the generalized ignorance of Koreans towards everything that happens in the rest of the world.
@@vampiremommysmilk6655 An example: I am Italian and I am traveling to Seoul. I don't know Korean. Which language should I use in shops, in restaurants, in hotels?
@@bqanto Isn't same? Like Europeans think South Koreans speak English as some of South Koreans think all Europeans can speak English?. No offense, I am just curious.
@@vampiremommysmilk6655 Is not the same thing. A European knows that Koreans are native Korean speakers and that they study English in school, and of course he hopes that they know enough English to understand each other. While Asians think that all Europeans are native English speakers and have local dialects like Italian and Norwegian.
This is not a good sign. I wonder how these people really feel about Korea, I mean Korea is so developed and united only cause it's one homogeneous society. Korean army will begin to fracture the moment you allow non Korean to join it. Look at the cracks in American army, multiculturalism isn't an example Korea should follow. Mind you I am Indian who loves k-pop and koren culture I don't want my Korea to become well America. Stay unique stay beautiful Korea, sarangheyo
Thank you so much. Maybe you are the only foreigner in this comment section speak up like this. I mean allowing non-Korean ethnic somehow is not a good thing. Especially when let somebody have a high rank in the military, they can easily betray the country. That guy did something very good, and he is a Korean too since his father is a Korean. But many foreigners (non-Korean ethnic 100%) can take this as a sign for joining the military.
Under God's sun we are all equal,💯 we have no class system💜. From rich to poor, 💯white or brown❤, Korea can be proud of him.💞 He didn't have to go. Remember, Korea was a closed country for centuries. Since the arrival of Americans, the country has opened up somewhat. But thanks to the Americans, South Korea lives in peace.💯 Read some historical books about Korea instead of KPop and K drama, Korea has suffered a lot.😭 Instead of being grateful to this young man and criticizing who are you? Koreans should take a DNA test because they would be surprised. Like me 😲
@@deeramini1892 Korea has opened up. Yeah, that is true. But that doesn't mean we can allow foreigners can join the military force easily like that. Even the 100% Korean can betray their country, how can we trust in these foreigners. Also, this can encourage and lead a massive range of immigrant, the society will in chaos. I don't hate any race, but what that Indian guy and I mean here is that we want the national security can be made sure not in chaos like the US. We learn good things from the States and we learn its mistakes as lessons. Of course everyone is equal, but when it comes to policies, the government must enacted laws that more benefits and prioritize its people first. I don't hate that Austrian guy. He is also a Korean too since his father is a Korean. And he did something that even a purely Korean doesn't want to do. But this case can encourage many foreigners enlisted the military. And the problem like I said at the first can happen.
Wow people, it’s ridiculous how misinformed you all are, except @@deeramini1892 First off, the US military is not in “chaos” and there are no “cracks.” The problems we have among soldiers are the discrimination and abuse within the ranks from white fundamentalist Christian men who are AGAINST multiculturalism as well as against female soldiers. The solution is to have MORE high-ranking military leaders of different ethnic and religious backgrounds. Multiculturalism is what makes the US stronger. The political mess we’re dealing with now is because racists who want white Christian purity got that malignant, chaotic, racist, misogynistic, classified-document-stealing scumbag Trump installed as president by appealing to the people that HATE multiculturalism. That’s why the states and communities run by Republicans are limiting or outright banning the teaching of black history and other history that criticized the discrimination and oppression inflicted upon people who aren’t white and/or Christian. It’s bizarre that anyone except bigoted purity-pushing extremists would think multiculturalism is our problem. Do you think the nazis are right? Many countries all over the world have people of different ethnic backgrounds in their military services. If someone is a citizen, they can enlist, doesn’t matter where their ancestors come from. And in the US, they don’t even have to be a citizen. When I saw “multiracial” in the title, I assumed it meant people who have no Korean ancestors, but this particular man in the video would be considered Korean in any other country.
