Southern Airways Express is a commuter airline operating in specific regions in the United States, with many of its routes being part of the Essential Air Services program.
Passengers check in at the front of Ticket Counter 3 in the main terminal at Dulles, to get their boarding pass. From there, you go through the usual TSA screening before camping out at the H Gates where mobile lounges used to dock. I was the only passenger for the inbound flight to Lancaster, with five more joining me on the way back
Passengers board a branded shuttle van, where the ramp agent scans your ticket before you step onto the aircraft a couple hundred feet away. I got to sit wherever I wanted, but for fuller flights (up to 9 passengers), the First Officer will assign seats based on weight requirements for the flight. Your F/O will also give safety instructions before departure, and you're allowed to bring food and snacks onboard, naturally within TSA regulations.
