Apparently Gareth handed his resignation to the FA. They passed it back, he passed it to Bellingham, he passed it sideways to Kane who passed it back to the keeper.
England in the 80s and 90s were like a Ford Grenada Ghia...England now are like a Bugatti Veyron. The problem is, Southgate was driving it with the hand break on.
@@dallehn what? The squads that repeatedly failed to qualify for competitions and included Carlton Palmer and Andy Sinton? Yeah, clearly comparable to the current squad! 🔔🔚
Goldbridge was clearly out walking the dog when he saw the news on his phone and immediately sprinted back to record this. His dog's probably still sitting in the park waiting for him
For all the bluster, dude is very gracious and considerate that Southgate is a man with strength and weaknesses and kudos for not dancing in his grave.
Ok but what will you say if we go on to actually win something? Would you then admit Southgate wasn’t up to the job? I doubt it. Don’t forget you started this speculation so I’m just throwing it back at you
Agreed. On all points. [I especially agree about "unrealistic expectations". Though England have enough talent to compete for major titles, nobody has so much talent that they can GUARANTEE winning a title: not Brazil, not Argentina, not Germany, not Italy, not France, not Spain, not England.]
I think it’s fair to say he was very good for us. We were really having bad times with Allardyce and McClaren and Fabio and losing to Iceland. He stabilised the team, got the fans interested again, got a toxic media back onside and took us high up the rankings and deep into tournaments. But he hasn’t improved since he came and the longer he stayed the more his good work was being undone. This is the right decision.
Anyone who thinks this decision wasn’t long overdue knows 0 ball and is an international tourney merchant. This team cannot be wasted under the reign of a reactive manager who has relied on easy draws.
I'm not English, but I think the best solution will be to get an interim manager for the Nations League and get Guardiola next year when his contract with City expires.
Thankgod this man has made my life hell from when he was playing for England to today were he managed them I can now may be going back to like them again 🎉🎉🎉depending on who they get in that is
Im from philippines where we didn’t like our coach for our basketball team because of his mentality of giving up already when faced with higher ranked team. He was criticized to the point of resignation. Now we had a new competitive head coach and guess what, we managed to win against a no.5 rank team in the world which we never done since 1960’s. This is a good step for England and wish nothing but the best!
I do not like boring football, but I do not criticize national team managers for playing boring football. But if you choose boring football because it is simple and easy to play, you should play boring football well. England played boring football poorly in 2024. We only have to compare with England in 2022 and 2021 to know the team can easily do better.
It's a success when you consider the past, I dunno, 40 odd years that came before? No titles but at least we got two finals and a semi in major tournaments. He wasn't good enough to push us over the finishing line but at least he got us SOMEWHERE unlike most England managers...
England fans are actually insane. You went from achieving nothing in 30 years to 2 finals and a semi final. He is pretty much the second best manager you ever had. Show some respect.
Cheers mark for calling it out as it as and not letting FA getting away from their total lack of ambition. It’s not a one off it’s an ever spinning cycle
I agree with what you are saying. England's performance has indeed improved greatly under Southgate (reaching semifinals in 2018 world cup, quarterfinals 2022 world cup, Euro runner-ups twice in a row), but under Southgate the team has hit a ceiling and needs a new coach to take it to the next tournament-winning level.
He made England extremely strong in 2021. He did make England stronger than Spain in the final only to get taken down by Spain. Twice that England came runners up. Southgate is all about making the England extremely strong and that's it. England are well coordinated and well cohesive but less than Spain in the end. He did good things for England by beating the teams that are more stronger in the major tournaments which were Columbia, Sweden, Germany, Denmark, Iran, Senegal and Netherlands. I reckon Southgate made a right decision. England needs a new tactical vision. England should play a possession based style.
@@Eric-qm5xw it’s not even a subject of winning I mean I’d love it, it’s just we deserve decent football, I watch all the other teams and we are so rubbish football wise, but yes if the manager is positive I’ll get right behind him.
This was a good call. The player-podcasts were still glazing him. They were celebrating him for getting to the final. They also need to kick out Kane, Walker and one out of Phoden/Bellingham.
In my opinion, he did well to change the atmosphere of the England camp as well as changing our approach to pens after the euro final. I wouldn't mind to see him as an assistant coach but he's not cut out for the big role, especially with the talent we now have.
Thanks for getting the England team back to a good level Mr Southgate, especially 2018 and 2020 which were great fun and a surprise, and you did bring a new Identity and warmth to the team. Unfortunately the football became far too negative for the people, we need something to excite us at this level. Thanks for all.the positives you brought though, for a while the country was really behind the team in a way many had never seen before, good luck for the future
Boregate got rid of the bad culture in the England team, but brought in his own brand of bad culture. Bad culture being a no tactics one-trick pony playing the worst type of football and rigid in his starting line up
Carsley is actually very well rated, different level with the under 21s of course but we played fast attacking football under him and he won the tournament. Not my top choice but not just an FA 'yes man'.
I’m happy that he has noticed that he can’t take the team to the next level and wanted him to go, but I am very thankful for what he has done for England
Let's be honest. He got extremely lucky with draws in tournaments. Whenever he came up against someone with any sort of tactical knowledge, he was clueless. He badly misused a massive pool of talent.
He did win the “first manager of any team to lose back to back finals in either wc or euros” trophy though if that’s any consolation The only teams to lose back to back wc finals (netherlands 1974 and 1978 alongside west germany 1982 and 1986) had different managers
Lampard Gerrard never worked. Harry Kane with Bellingham and Foden doesn't work. We all saw it years ago and we saw it in this. International managers must be blind or something
The FA will start looking now for their next diplomat/politician. The qualification ‘how good is he as a manager, is he a winner’ is lower down on their list. We as fans need to use social media to put pressure on the FA for a winner, a proper coach.
Pochettino was the first place I went for Southgate's replacement. He, like Howe, would quickly have the respect of the locker room. Now watch the FA hire Frank Lampard.
The FA wanted to keep him for the World Cup. Gareth made the decision to manage this Euros and this was always going to be the last tournament for him. Ideally he should of resigned after the World Cup
I wouldnt even say Southgate was a good man manager. Trying to be everyone's friend and fitting all your favorites in the team despite the fact that they dont work together is not good man management.
Nothing will change until the FA appoints a manager who prioritizes selecting a team that suits a system rather than choosing players based on their names and trying to fit them into a system. This requires a courageous manager who is willing to leave out one or two big names for the benefit of the whole team.
For those doubting a klopp appointment is possible… I can give you £5.2 million reasons he might take the job… well and that’s just if he’s paid the same as Southgate which I highly doubt he would be, they would probably up the ante if they thought they could get him. At the end of the day, klopps job is managing, and he has a family to feed. Plus there are players there that a manager may think it would be a great opportunity to work with. . Why not.
Why football management is definitely not his fortiue, Tactical awareness he does not have and never will, Southgate is bloody useless,Middlesbrough fans will testify to that statment.
I couldn't watch any of the games without wanting England to lose but only because I wanted Southgate gone and had he won he'd have been there for ever.
The man failed in his job. I respect his decision to go and think it displays qualities he required as manager but did not present ; bravery and boldness.
No country has ever won the world cup with a foreign manager, it's only ever been done once in the Euros and that was Greece in 2004 with a German manager. I don't think it's impossible to do, if we went with a foreign manager it has to be among the well known big name who spent many years in the prem with a winning mentality, don't think Poch is that guy.
Respect to Southgate. He got us out a slump and restored pride and enthusiasm in supporting our national team again. Not the greatest manager in the world but he got us to believe again. He prepared a perfect springboard for the next manager with more experience and skill to get us a trophy. Very honourable to step down now. Hats off to Gareth for that.
@@JessePinkmanv this is what I'm saying england fans have very short memories, but it's unsurprising given their international reputation for thuggery
