Join me for the second round of the Historic Road Racing Championship! 40 competitors line up at the daunting Spa Francorchamps for the two-hour event. In testing we've had our lowest lap completion percentage yet and this is expected to be a treacherous race. High speeds, long corners, bumps, poles, hay bales, trees, fences, cars. Every corner could be the last. To survive this race will truly be monumental.
Coming into this round leading the point standings. I hope today the D-Type can carry me to a solid finish!

I think we found out why this start layout was amended after driver pressure. Starting 5L cars 3-wide, on their brakes, through a bridge uphill J-turn is always gonna be interesting. It was one little lateral bump, into another car pendulum-ing, & then Sharl is being yeeted, then repeat twice at the bridge. No-one seemed to make a big mistake, but everyone had contact.

I’m gonna keep saying it. I wish we could get a full sim title for vintage racing. From the 50s through to the 90s.

That would be indeed a gift from the sim racing gods. I do historic racing in an old Alfa Romeo Giulia from 1971 for real and it is absolutely thrilling and a lot of fun. 😉

Man yeah, even just a 50-late 70’s would be amazing, I think there would be a huge market.

Would be a dream. Might be big problems with licensing and such though. Not sure how the cars are being put into the game as well. Do they scan and take pictures of the real car to get textures and shape into the game? Do they drive the real car, then track tons of data to get an idea how the physics/sounds are supposed to be? I would assume so, and it would be alot harder to obtain and be able to test historic cars for obvious reasons. But many modern sims still features historic cars so it can obviously be done. Not sure about the market though, historic racing might not be as popular as modern racing sadly, but I do feel like we have gotten sims and other racing games with the same kind of content for a long time now. Maybe there is a high demand for something else, and a full sim for vintage racing would be incredible.

@@Skumtomten1 As far as scanning the cars and getting data I’d say its easier then it’s ever been. Almost every vintage race car, at least ones that most would be interested in are racing today at the Spa Classic. LeMans classic, Goodwood, Laguna Seca historics and many other vintage racing events or track days. Like year around almost. Owners might even be honored to have their car scanned. Especially if money is offered. As far as licensing and other things like the studio being able to attend these events where these cars are that’s another set of obstacles. I’d imagine a passionate and motivated studio could get it done though.

Thank you Jake for the content. I’ve watched a few different streamers and you’re content is just the best. You’re super personable, down to earth, humble, regular guy! I started watching the series a few nights ago and watch it at 30 minute clips at night, very entertaining. Having round 2 on today in the background updating some spreadsheets at work!

it's funny that you mention the 55 le mans incident. growing up in the 90's i actually had the honor of Meeting famous american race car driver John Cooper Fitch, who was associated with the team who's Mercedes launched into the stands, at the time that i met him he was the Manager at the well known Lime Rock Park, in Lakeville, CT, where i spent much of my childhood growing up as he was a friend of my family, he had so many wonderful and interesting stories to tell about his time racing, and between him and lime rock park really made me fall in love with European style racing over it's American counterpart. sadly he passed away in 2012 still acting as manager at lime rock park until the end....amazing man, amazing stories, and did so much for the evolution of racing safety. a couple years prior to his death he did talk about the incident and gave an account of what happened and what the team was thinking at the time it happened Video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-WOAQu4C3yAc.html&ab_channel=TrackStories

Very fitting story since HRRC is heading to Dundrod for next round, as Fitch won the Tourist Trophy there that year alongside Stirling Moss in a Mercedes 300 SLR. Thanks for sharing it.

During the stream I was mistaken about an old Goodwood circuit that was in the woods. What I was thinking of was actually the Pebble Beach Del Monte Trophy road races through the forest in the 50's. It was a pretty crazy circuit with trees and spectators lining the track and some of the greats raced there. There's an AC track mod for it called Pebble Beach Revival but the screenshots show armco barriers that weren't there in the 50's. The layout is probably correct though.

Maybe not what you ideally wanna hear but I watched and listened to this race in entirety yesterday due to alcohol hangover depression. It helped me a lot, thanks!

Jake's vids are all best medicine for any hangovers! I've caught myself suddenly being aware that my bedtime had passed more hours just by watching Jake's driving and comments 'almost unconsiously' like 'being in the zone' of good vibes of racing history, sim immersion and cozyness.

Idk if you see this man but I wish you well. The most helpful stuff seems to be scheduling out your day, eating well (beef, butter, etc) and working out routinely (and obviously church). Eventually cutting out alcohol is great, but I get that can be super hard (will save you enough money to upgrade sim in like a year lol). God bless bro.

How much did you pay for your racing shoes? Sparco's are quite expensive. I still use my Simpson shoes from when I was racing IRL in the 90's. But back then they only cost about $80-100.

...But it is his race, because he organized it. When you start and organize a series even a quarter of the size of this one, it can be a lot of work and stress. The more people involved and having it streamed and so on just adds onto that, and when it's your "baby" it's hard to not to worry about how smoothly it runs and how it's viewed and whether the standards you had in mind when you created it are being met.
