What a fun reaction. You have just discovered Australias GOAT. John Farnham is a true living legend in Australia. The most beloved artist our country has ever had. There are so many great videos out there from him as most of his concerts, from a career spanning over 50 years, where also ahown on TV. Even though he is a mega star, he always made sure people could afford to go to his concerts, and if not then they could be watched on TV. Some of his concerts are also available on DVD. He is a family man and chose to stay mostly in Australia but he was also very popular in parts of Europe and the UK during the 80's and 90's As others have said...always watch John live as he is a very charismatic performer and sings just as good if not better live. Hes is not just a good singer, he is also a genuinley nice, funny, kind and gentle man with a huge heart. Always doing free concerts for charity and will stop and have a chat with his fans anytime. ❤ A few ideas to get you started. HELP, It's a Long way to the Top both live from the concert with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra Chain Reaction Touch of Paradise That's Freedom Playing to Win All our Sons and Daughters Please Don't Ask Me When Something is Wrong with my Baby Once you start checking out John Farnham the Aussies will flock to your channel❤

“You’re The Voice” was very big in Europe and there’s a video of John and the band performing it in Germany in the mid-1980s. This song is an anthem and has been credited as being a major catalyst for the destruction of the Berlin Wall and unification of West and East Germany.

John Farnham is an English born Australian artist, who started his career in 1967 as an 18 yr old pop idol; during the late 70's he transitioned into an adult entertainer. This concert is from 1989, and was a once off for tv concert; he covered hits from his early years, interspersed with his more modern hits of the 80's. You're The Voice his John's signature song, and is affectionately known as The Voice; another song from this concert is his version the classic Beatles song Help, which he original performed in 1980 in front of Queen Elizabeth at a Royal Variety Performance. Prior to John Lennon's in 1980, he was heard to say about this version, "this is how the song was meant to be sung"; for comparison, check out The Beatles version.

John Farnham is very popular in Australia, our most popular artist ever. His 1986 album that this song was off is still the biggest selling album by an Australian here, and the second biggest album ever! Australians absolutely love him because he has an amazing voice, and is also a charismatic performer and a lovely, lovely man. His career here spanned from when he was 17 to 70 years old. He is currently recovering from mouth cancer, so we have not heard him sing since 2020. You could try reacting to Help! with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra (same concert as this) next, as it is vocally wonderful, although it does sometimes get blocked. A couple of others to try are Touch of Paradise, That's Freedom and Burn For You, all from the Chain Reaction concert (so search 'touch of paradise chain reaction' etc.). Please always react to John live, and he's absolutely brilliant live. There are so many more performances from him to see, and Australians should find your channel pretty quickly if you do. :)

I must have been one of the few Americans to latch onto this song when it first came out because when I see Americans and western Europeans react to it, almost none of them have ever heard it. Such a shame that it wasn't a bigger hit outside of Australia because it definitely deserved to be. It has always been one of my ten favorite power pop songs of all time.

John chose family over international exposure, but did perform overseas on a couple of occasions; he took over as lead singer for Australia's Little River Band, and had even be approached to join Queen after the death of Freddie Mercury. Although not established overseas, some of his albums were received well in Europe and the United States. The tossing of the micstand before throwing it across the stage then to pick it up with a flick of his foot, is on of his occasional theatrics; his wife has tried to stop him from doing it but hasn't as yet succeeded. The addition of the bagpipes in this song, was at John's insistence when it was initially recorded; they've tried using a keytar in place of it, but it's just not the same. I hope you continue to delve into John's singing, and like those before by falling into that rabbit-hole; also, there are a lot, lot more talented Australian artists and bands to check out. ENJOY THE JOURNEY

John Farnham (pronounced Farn-um), is an Australian national treasure, with the best voice the world has never heard. He can sing and has sung anything from rock, opera, jazz, blues- the phone book! Lol. So many examples on RU-vid for you to explore. A career spanning over 50 years, John is now 74 and sadly no longer performs, following a diagnosis of cancer in his mouth and jaw, 2 years ago. In 2023, when asked if Farnham will ever tour again or release new material, his sons said "Anything's possible... I think he'd like to, and he can definitely still sing"

John Farnham, greatest singer on the planet. When Celine Dion was coming to Australia, she said she wanted to sing this song with him, and she did. Olivia Newton John said the one singer she wanted to sing with was John Farnham, and she toured with him. He also did a national tour with Tom Jones, which you can see on RU-vid. When Freddie Mercury died, Queen wanted John to take his place, but he refused because he didn't want to have to tour internationally. Try watching 'Help' with the MSO, same concert. Phenomenal. He's a legend!❤

This concert is performed in the Myer Music Bowl in Melbourne, Victoria. It's an outdoor venue set in a natural amphitheater. The stage is under a huge dome so the sound projects out really well. This song You're the Voice marked his comeback from some hard times he had suffered for the previous few years. One of Australia's favourite sons, and we all have a special place for him in our hearts. Many have suggested reacting to "Help", it's a Bealtes song sung in more of a ballad style. It really shows John's vocal range off.

It's strange you should mention Queen. Because when Freddie passed away, Brian May actually asked John to join the band. John refused because he would have to spend to much time away from his family. His wife, Jill, even gets upset when he has to do a national tour. So international tours are out of the question.

Just found your channel, and already the handful of vids I've seen have been a delight. New subscriber. The reason you haven't heard of the Aussie legend John (Farnsey) Farnham is that after a brief tour with Little River Band, he decided that his wife and family were more important than international success, so he mostly restricted his touring to Australia. He has had top 10 records in Australia in every decade since the 60s when he was the King of Pop several years in a row. I still have fond memories of his first hit Sadie, even though he is embarrassed at how corny it is and refused to perform it for decades. I endorse what others have said: if you want to listen to more of his music, always find the live performance if you can. If you do happen to pick some more of his work, you'll quickly become amazed at not just his gorgeous voice, but both his versatility (something like 18 genres) and his sheer power. I'm always noticing that when you see the other singers, either his backing singers or co-stars, the others have to just about swallow their microphones to keep up with him, while John looks like he needs longer arms to keep from overpowering them. Australia has always punched above our weight in producing outstanding entertainers for such a small population.

Details of this performance are: Amira Willighagen with Andre Rieu singing “ O Mio Babbino Caro “ to an audience in excess of 10,000, who rose as one to give her a standing ovation. Note that Amira was a mere 10 years of age. Amira is a once in a lifetime talent & has developed into a world renown Soprano that no Reactors should pass up. She is now 20 yo & studying her Batchelor of Music in Sth Africa. Her recent release is “ Down From His Glory “ & some is sung in Spanish, so you could tell us how accurate her pronunciation is. You do realise you talked and sang over one of the best vocalists on earth. And it is one of our unofficial anthems. That was close to 65,000 people in a stadium - at the time one of the largest rock concert events ever. It's OK. You are forgiven. Simply we are blessed.

just listen to the words and what they mean.. not the sound.. it's like a national anthem! he is English born and I remember him before the 80's with a song like 'Sadie the cleaning lady'
