On our TEA20 series I go through the steps to remove the cylinder head on our tractor.
The video is a bit long but pause it if you need to while following along.
Here is a link to the Kangaroo Stew where I bought it and got it running.

On my head, several head nuts were galled onto the studs. The previous owner (on reassembly) didn't bother to separate the nuts from the studs and drove the studs in with the nuts fused to them. Under one nut a washer was omitted (critical mistake; you can guess what happened). The stud then was driven in too far, bottomed out and cracked the engine block. But...he didn't know about it as it was the final torque-down. This is how to repair a blown head gasket and still end up having coolant getting into your engine oil. The curse of those little details! Cheers for the series Lance.

Another great and very informative video thank you Lance. I have an intermittent misfire on my 48 TEA20 could this be caused by head a fault. Tight valve, bent and sticking push rod or something along those lines ? I quite fancy taking the head of my tractor and this video has given me the confidence to do it.
@BundyBearsShed

Could just be a sticky injector, but running it with the tappet cover off might give you a better idea of what the problem is.

Hi Lance, Great run through. Thanks for that. Just a question on the flat washers for the cylinder head. Are they a hardened steel as opposed to a mild steel washer? Cheers, Paul. Surrey UK

Ellis engine and parts on Ritchie st I think it is. Hes a young bloke that did work experience with me years ago and he bought the old run down business and is building it up. He is going to take some video of the repairs for me.

Hi Lance, my head gasket is blown and has filled up no2 cylinder. Not a problem I will replace the head gasket. My question is, there is water in the sump, this has just occurred when the head gasket blew. I have started to strip for the head gasket replacement and have taken off the rocker cover, the plug you show in your video in the head has actually been replaced with an aluminium plug cut flush with the head so that ls not sendingbwater into the sump. How can I tell if the cylinder liner gaskets are leaking as the head gasket is blown badly and a cooling ststem pressure test cannot be done. Do I just replace the head gasket and see if water ends up in the sump again or can I check for cylinder liner gasket leakage by sump removal? Thanks in advance. Love your Videos, very informative.

Just spotted the gap between the crank pulley and that bracket. Mine doesn’t have any gap to get the belt off so I’m thinking it may have had a hit in the front and bent something at some stage.

Just removed my cylinder head and found three head gaskets and two spacers separating them, gasket, spacer, gasket, spacer, gasket. It is a TEA20 converted to run on TVO at some point. If I set it back to original, petrol only do I need shorter head studs and pushrods ?
@BundyBearsShed
@BundyBearsShed Год назад
Im not sure about the head studs but the push rods possibly. I would do a dry run and get some measurements.

Hi Lance do you know how long the TEA push rods are? Ive got a TEA20 that at some point was converted to TVO by adding 5 head gaskets and putting in the longer push rods from a TED Im rebuilding the engine and putting it back to how it was originally but I need to swap the push rods for the shorter TEA ones. Ive already payed out for one set that I was told were the shorter ones but they are too long Id like to know the exact length I need before paying for another set but cant find out how long they are supposed to be from anywhere can you help???

Lance - I have a 1954 TEA20 on which I am doing a reasonably complete overhaul here in Maryborough Qld. On removing the head one of the studs broke, one came out and the others remain. My question is do I remove the other studs for replacement or leave sleeping dogs lie. My concern is breaking other studs. I am dealing with the one broken one and dont need any more.

Smooth the surface out and try and have a natural curve to rub on the valves so it doesnt catch in one place.
