I could listen to David Crosby all day. He was a highly intelligent man. His unrest was probably because of that intelligence. His music was equally intellectual. His death is a huge loss as he was still working. Bring his wisdom to our youth through his interviews, film and most essentially his music. RIP David Crosby.

I have spoken with self proclaimed "music lovers' that do not know who Pete Seeger was/is. They respond "I know who Bob Seger is". The first image I can remember that demonstrated "something wrong" was going on in Vietnam were the pictures of Buddhist monks self immolating with gasoline. David, your book is $23.00 on Amazon.

Growing up in the 60's and 70's was truly a remarkable time. The young people gathered together in protest of another greed driven war. Racism was being challenged and the US was on its way to becoming a truly great place to live. We can thank CSNY and all the groups who spoke out as our voice against suppression and war. I am now seeing protests world wide against the US and its fall back into the pre 50's mentality and again greed driven influence. I certainly wish more song writers would get back into the support for our rights and our children's rights to be safe in schools. It's unfortunate the voice of America is silent when it should be loud and filled with vigar.

I like David Crosby and I'd like to believe that activism makes a difference, but the sad fact is activism didn't shorten the Vietnam War. I mean, come on: the Summer of Love was in 1967 and the the Vietnam War lasted another EIGHT years.
@dannydine5263
@dannydine5263 8 лет назад
As the 1970's wore on the Vietnam war slowed down and the draft slowed down and the activism subsided and pop radio started to be filled with a lot of pap like Tie a Yellow Ribbon round the Old Oak Tree,etc.The draft caused the political activism to explode.I think the political activism in America was more tied to the Tet offensive then anything else.What the government learned since then was to build a strong volunteer military which i support BUT that means the government can start any bullshit war they want to and the people may not like it but they wont get that upset as long as there's no draft.Ever see those bumper stickers, Support our Troops.Sounds good.The only problem is what it really means to the people at the top is Support our Wars.

I've long despised the slogan, "We Support our Troops," but it is a deviously brilliant tool to manipulate the population with, and it is actually the population--ordinary citizens--which most confuses "our troops" with "our wars." I don't think senators and CEO's are bullshitted by it. This slogan is all the more damaging because these days there's such a preposterous, nauseating, and blanket veneration of soldiers (and also cops, by the way). The mere act of lacing on a pair of boots is enough to make one a "hero." This ass-kissing of military men simply didn't exist in the seventies and eighties; I'm old enough to remember. And I'm saying this as somebody whose father served fifteen years in the army, until a couple of heart attacks forced him to retire. I for one think the draft needs to be brought back and 90% of the persons serving in the military need to be laid off permanently. Almost half the money the world spends on "defense" is spent by the United States, which is absolutely ridiculous. The last time the US was attacked by a foreign country was during the War of 1812.

Crosby was on The Wynne Unit of The Texas Department of Criminal Justice. And treated like a celebrity in prison. Instead of being sent to one of the Units where field work was being done by all the other inmates who did not have his status. I knew another inmate from Dallas that had befriended David Crosby. Back in those days TDCJ still had the prison rodeo and Jimmy Bowman the guy that knew David and his business in prison. Certain things that not everyone else got to know. Crosby got visits all during the week by other celebrity status people coming to see him. The Wardens and Majors of Wynne Unit were directed by the Director of TDCJ to allow all that was acceptable to make sure that nothing made TDCJ look cruel and unusual in their attitude towards inmates. So this guy got super celebrity treatment.....but his drug issue was indeed over the top issue. Even after he was released He got busted again but got out of it.

David is looking the looking glass of the 1960's and the baby boomers born after WW2 . Maybe he has a birds eye view if history. What we did not see is that we did not have a historical view of history. Basically David; people who cannot accumulate a lot of wealth like yourself, a musician and guitar player with a recording contract cannot all be entrepreneurs. The 60's movement failed because we were only a small space in time. My 60's generation did not understand not comprehend history. We would not change history but were only a speck in time. History only returned to the perpetual struggle between individualism or capitalist economy or collectivism and the socialist economy. Unfourtanetley in a socialist economy there will produce people who will produce harder than others and the others who produce nothing wanting to gain on the backs of others who have worked harder. That is why socialism /communism cannot work
