Formerly known as Special Operations Weather Team (SOWT), the Special Reconnaissance (SR) career field has recently transitioned into a role dedicated that is tailored more for all-source intelligence, surveillance, & reconnaissance versus the traditional environmental reconnaissance they performed as SOWTs. While short term weather forecasting will remain in the SR’s skillset, it will no longer dominate SR’s training and mission focus. Skills include: Weather forecasting Intelligence, Surveillance & Reconnaissance (ISR) gathering Forward observations & scouting Surveillance & Target Acquisition Special Reconnaissance Operators are among the most highly trained personnel in the U.S. military. They receive training in surveillance and reconnaissance, multi-domain electronic warfare (EW), long-range precision engagement and target interdiction, small unmanned aircraft systems, preparation of the environment, personnel recovery, and advanced special tactics skills. Each branch has their own recon unit. For instance the US Army has a Regimental Reconnaissance Company. The US Air Force’s Special Reconnaissance comes from their Special Operations Weather Team and it transformed into SR around 2019. They used to just insert deep and collect weather data as well as other information and now do plenty of reconnaissance for the USAF as well as other special operations units.

@USAirForceRecruiting
@USAirForceRecruiting Месяц назад
@minsikbuff To join the Air Force, you must live in the United States or an area that has an AF recruiter. Non US citizens must also possess a 2-year, or 10-year INS Form I-551 (green card) and have at least 6 months or more remaining before the expiration date to apply to join if you are not a US citizen. For Space Force, you must be a US Citizen to be eligible to join. Applicants must be between the ages of 17 and 42; meet the mental, moral, and physical standards for enlistment; and must speak, read, and write English fluently. The Air Force and Space Force does not bring applicants to the US to join unless there is an AF/USSF recruiting office or Military Entrance Processing Station (MEPS) to process through. You must get to the United States legally and complete all immigration processing on your own. The Air Force does not help. Air Force does plenty on the ground. From their security forces protecting airbases, Tactical Air Control Party for providing close air support for the Army, Pararescue proving casualty evacuation and emergency medicine for pilots and other special operations forces, Combat Controllers setting up drop zones airfields landing zones, and yes Special Reconnaissance to provide some reconnaissance support to SOCOM and the Air Force. Special Reconnaissance used to do just Special Operations Weather Team things when deployed but are now doing all sorts of information gathering like using handheld drones.

I think you misunderstood my questions. With the Army, Navy Seals, Marine Corps. Were there reconnaissance assets I don't see the need for an Air Force One as well. It's in the name Air Force. It doesn't apply to the ground. That's why it doesn't make sense. Army has several assets to use, Navy has theirs, the Marines have theirs. Let's just spend more money I'm at the Air Force do it too. Does it make any sense, mentally, and financially. Never said they couldn't. Just think they shouldn't. I'm not dissing Air Force. My father joined the Army Air Corps in 1942. He also fought in the Korean war. Was with him when the Air corps became the Air Force. I grew up in Air Force brat. There was no real need for the Air Force's special reconnaissance.

If you have such a huge problem with the Air Force Special Reconnaissance, why don’t you become Secretary of the Air Force and get Special Reconnaissance disbanded? Why don’t you go talk to your Senator and explain to him/her why Special Reconnaissance is a waste of time and money and that the Air Force should disband it? Perhaps the Air Force should get rid of the Pararescue jumpers as well and let the Marines and Army and Navy handle search and rescue. How about getting rid of TACP and let the Army call in air support or just let ANGLICO handle all air support missions?

Marine Corps is self-sustaining, and Marine Recon does recon for MAGTF. Army recon elements does recon for Army, and SEALs does recon for NSWC. They're all playing in their own backyard. Air Force SR locates potential airfields, guides direction of air and missile attacks, and prepares the environment. As you can see, these are all tasks that the Air Force would handle. Although SR supports other SOCOM units, the Air Force comes first.

In all this butthurt stuff that people wrote. Why does everyone get so bad out of shape when I brought up just a question. I served in Force Recon for 6 years. I have four combat tours. I think I know all about the other branches of services capabilities and such. It was just a thought. All these people that have negative responses to my question, I have a question for you people. When and where did you serve and what branch. What was your MOS? Because if you really were a PJ, or an Army ranger or whatever the case may be. But I have a stinking suspicion the negative naysayers, probably didn't serve. And if you did again what was your MOS. Completely completely misunderstood but I was saying. There was never any ill-will intended. I work with Army rangers, I worked with SF. I worked with Navy Seals, Anglico in Beirut. All fine units. So please it was just a question to throw out there. From my experience I was just saying why. I was not saying they all suck which was all the negative comments were thinking. Grow up.
