This video features a playthrough of the 1991 arcade game Spider-Man, complete with all the demo scenes, played with the Spider-Man character. Created using MAME 0.145
I remember beating this game with a bunch of randoms kids at a hotel when on vacation with my family. At one point, I literally ran to my hotel room to get more quarters from my parents.
Brings me back to playing in the arcade with my dad as a little boy. I'll never forget the jingle that plays right after you select your character. Or that female voice saying, "Spider-Man!" Spidey was my childhood. I'll always cherish it.
@@Retroconsole Actually, Venom looks pretty accurate to his comic-counterpart here. Venom is supposed to be pretty bulky and twice the size as Peter Parker/Spider-Man Can't get any bigger or wider than the Blob or Juggernaut 😆
@Kings Field True. Scorpion does look likes he's the same size as how Spiderman was supposed to be and those Mime masked thugs here would be the equivalent size. Spiderman's top height would be 5'9 or 5'10, while others superheroes like Daredevil is 6'3 or 6'4.
This game looks pretty good. Never heard of it. The only thing that is weird, is how spiderman walks.. his walking animation, he looks really bored has no fighting stance..
What a classic game. I used to play this in the arcade when I was a kid. Great times. I still don’t know till this day who the sub mariner character is. lol.
Ah yes I remember the pizza hut arcade. Hell it might still have some arcades in pizza hut idk. Haven't been in 10 years at least. Anyway, I was a like 8 when arcades were still popular. My family had 20s and 50s in their wallets but harldy ever had any " change" I didn't get to play much because I sucked. I had a super Nintendo at home so it wasn't too big of a deal but I sure wanted to play more.
Damn i was born in 91 and missed a lot of the sickest arcade games and moments of the era. I did get to enjoy a few, but it was quickly faded out of existence...Gotta download this game!!
Used to go to the gold coast roller rink in Fort Lauderdale, Florida in the mid-late 90s, and play this arcade. Amazing, special memories their that can never be duplicated. Sadly the roller rink closed in 2011. It was their for I believe 50 years.
What a terrific arcade game. I must have lost a fortune playing this one with friends back in the day! I still can't figure out, however, why the Submariner and Hawkeye were used as playable characters in this one. Being an avid fan of the Spidey comic books, I don't recall those two aforementioned heroes as enemies of the Kingpin. Daredevil would have been a more suitable choice since he battled Wilson Fisk on a regular basis!!
One morning, 50 year old Joe Joeson said to himself "Spider man's comics sucks theses days, I'll show'em how he was in the good old times", he then ran to the nearest drugstore and poured 20 lb of red & blue paint all over his naked body, but didn't need to do the Black lines, thanks to 30 years of carefully trimmed head, arms, chest and leg hair. Our hero was ready to take on them streets.
This game's better if you imagine Spider-Man's inner monologue as he has an existential crisis. Like... he's just going through the motions and wondering what the point of all this is.
A lot of kids today don't realize what it was like to go to an arcade with 30 bucks and and get tokens and play with 3 other people. The xmen game, ninja turtles, and the Simpsons all had games like this. The x-men was by far the best from that era! I miss those days 😢
Why does Spider-Man look all geriatric like he broke out of the nursing just so he could save the world one last time but forgot to take his meds first?
I love this great classic arcade game Spider Man in 1991!!! I love Spider Man he was my favorite comic book hero!!!! I love this video game it is my favorite of all time!!!!! Thanks so much for posting this video!!!!! I love it!!!!!!!
Jesus , you just WANT AMERICANS to make games to make licensed games, don't you?! When are you idiots ever going to learn that the Non-Japanese developers and publishers can't make games worth a damn?! And I do not care if you think you think I am a weeaboo. I rather be a fucking weeaboo than a god damn PATRIOT.
I played the hell out of this game as kid and recently on MAME but I've never watched anyone else play. I've never noticed the way Spiderman stands and walks. "Ugh...it's too early for this shit!"
Very true. I would of had Daredevil and probably Johnny Storm aka Human Torch of the Fantastic Four because he's one of Spidey's best friends if you know Spider-Man's past comic books. Venom was created by Todd Macfarland.
TheJurnalyst I love Pizza Hut this Spider - Man game came out the year I was born 1991 I love this arcade the year my mother graduated from high school with a diploma twenty six years ago I love myself.
So... back in 1991, Spider-Man didn't web swing quite as much, walked like a nerd, fought the Court of Owls before they were cool and made dog barking noises when he threw people.
+TheComicCrafter I think they're supposed to be Hellfire Club goons. Their use in the game might be inspired by Spider-Man: Spirits of the Earth, where Spidey fights the Club in Scotland.
Lightning Lord Could be, though it would make more sense if they were Maggia goons, considering the Kingpin has often been a Maggia leader. It's very hard to tell, as both Maggia and Hellfire Club goons look VERY similar.
First time I played this I thought, ok another final fight type thing. Then the perspective changed and zoomed out and did the platform thing and it blew my mind!
+Myspace Tom yeah both of those video games came out in the year I was born 1991 forever and ever forever 1991my year my birth year which is The Simpsons and Spider-Man: The Videogame classic forever both my favorite video games.
This game was at my local Food Lion when I was a kid. I'd play it just to kill time while my Mom shopped. After shopping we'd go to the mall so I can play the real games like Street Fighter 2.
I love this game so much! I still hate SEGA for not putting this on the Saturn! Then again, instead of that godawful SEGA America Spiderman game, this could have been on the 32X!! It could have been arcade perfect! The 32X and Saturn should have both had this game, Golden Axe: Revenge of Death Adder and the other SYSTEM-32 games.
