I think we can all agree the mod to reduce the range on the blood spiders attack quickly became no.1 on the list.

"Long-range attacks" is a big understatement

The bugmaster also seems to be unaging, since the Shek have been fighting him for "hundreds of years." Considering he has the Meitou Foreign Saber, that lends credibility to the idea that he is ancient, or the "title" of bugmaster is passed down generation to generation (which makes absolutely no sense considering he's the only human in the area). It really seems to me that he's a byproduct of some kind of bioengineering. Same with the Gorillo Bandits, the Shek, the Hivers, the Cannibals, and the Scorchlanders. Who knows, maybe even the fishmen!

The only treasure you find in his tower is a chest full of human teeth, which are, oddly, edible to hivers.

"Training" for bloodspiders is simply installing a mod that makes their attack range reasonable.

I still think the bugmaster actually worked with cat-lon during the second empire. He was responsible for the genetic experiments that created the enforcers (later became the shek) and eventually the hive. The hive look very similar to the spiders, so I think the spiders were just a step in the process to make the hive. And because of the knowledge of genetics, the bugmaster has changed his own dna as well. Perhaps he is like the hive queen for the spiders, commands them in the same way. And maybe he turned his back and left cat-lon during the age of chaos.

Isn't it implied in a few bits of lore that the bugmaster is a lot older than is possible for a human?

I always felt the spiders themselves looked like human aboration. (especialy the non-red ones)

Found an elder Blood Spider at the edge of the swamps today. We did not realise it was an elder until after we killed it, as it was smaller than those found in the Tower of Spiders. This Blood Spider came to us in a pack while we were fighting bandits. It's lucky we ran away from the battle, otherwise we may have been killed by possibly even more elder Blood Spiders.

Howd you ignore the fact that he has teeth in his treasure chest? Theres something very odd about that and is kind of a big detail.

I thought, he is the last of the Ancients from the first Empire. He had driven mad by his lust for revenge. As machines (Behemoths) had destroyed his people and his empire, he is now training spiders to take revenge on them by killing the old second empire's king in Ashlands.

i had a group of 15ish skeletons; fresh recruits, and they were running to get to Shark, but, they were split up due to differing running speeds, and a few Bloodspiders absolutely killed off 2-3 of the unprepared skeletons who were only trying to keep up with their leader. i hate blood spiders.

elder blood spiders are probably the bugmaster's prototypes for cat-lon, kept in their to an elder age, as pets or something. Bugmaster was employed by cat-lon as a geneticist, and it's believed he created the enforcers, hivers and spiders.

great work, but saying that the bugmaster stole something, like something external, is just unbelieveable. I think he was just a biological experiment of the second empire. He was kidnapped as a child, experimented on, got a trait that lets him control spider species, but since he was a baby when he was separated from his parents, he dosent know how to speak, or atleast ive never seen him speak, idk

There are rumors, that claim the Hivers were genetically created by Cat-Lon. Since the Hivers share a few similarities to the Spiders of Kenshi, I assume that they are actually related to each other. Frankly I think the Hivers were supposed to have 2 pairs of legs as well, but time constraints and lack of resources during Kenshi's development seem to have turned them into humanoids that can wear the same clothing as all other races.

My honest opinion, the phoenix refers to the precursor humans that founded the first empire, they are led by one man capable of cloning himself to manage multiple planets including Kenshi, this would be his claim to divinity. Now Imagine people in the first empire found a way to transfer their consciousness to a skeleton, specifically this version of the phoenix, and used it to live past his expected time. This leads to the destruction of the First empire via Orbital bombardment and chemical warfare that turned many communities into blood thirsty cannibals or into devolved shrieking raiders. Cat lon now distrusting humans has to rebuild without their help, so he created a few species: the Shek, a hybrid of human cloning spliced with bonedog dna for a fighting force. And the for an economic power he needed a species that was able to follow direction easily and also withstand the elements to meet logistical needs, using the dna of the original and probably defeated in a past war hive and humans the Hives were refounded. I believe there was a civil war among the hivers to either fight for cat lon or claim independence, the west being independent and the south eventually being coerced into cat lons side when he sent a crimper named King to manage things. But there were always more enemies at the gates in cat lons mind, so he went back to the cloning machines and used a 2nd Empire Noble now known as no face to create a species that would simply hunt and fight under the guidance of this one man. When this was a success Cat Lons greatest and maddest project occurred. Cat Lon cloned the DNA of his old deceased body to make another perfect clone, but because he died so long ago this version of the phoenix was completely crazy and only had the urge to make armies like his robot self. But now in these rough times humans were fleeing in droves to the north, he had to make clones in a cost effective way. Its the teeth, he uses the teeth to make altered clones of himself which is how they respond to him and follow his direction, also explaining why skin spiders have an enamel like armor that covers their bodies, the legs were the roots of the teeth and the 2 smaller arms were the veins in the teeth. A little far out there but the texts from the great library can back up these claims.

I've definitely seen "Elder" Blood Spiders All over the swamps. Maybe there are two different kinds of "Elder" because I have never been to The Tower of Spiders yet.

My headcanon is that the Bugmaster was an ashland drifter who encountered cat-lon, and all his friends got killed or something, so he began raising spiders in an attempt to one day have an army capable of matching cat-lon and his thrall hoard.

Any chance that you cover topic of Tech Hunters and Traders Guild a bit more in detail? Also any lore on Beak things and Skimmers? Are they the natural fauna or they are mutants or genetically enhanced/modified? (like Fallout Deathclaws)

I messed around a found out why the Bugmaster is so feared. Severely underestimated the hordes of spiders. Thought I was hot stuff after fighting off big groups of mech spiders in the northeast forbidden area

I wonder if we'll see the evolution of the spiders in kenshi 2 considering it's 1000 years before kenshi 1.

I was playing last night I had a load of error bots chasing me and they totally wiped out fish isle. There's just a few little groups of them left lol.

This boss ends to be a letdown, why have 100 skills and fight naked, he can go down so quickly with a mediocre squad ganging up on him 🫣 the actual enemy in That location is the squads of spiders. roaming around. The issue of weak armor or no armor at all is Also present in many late game mobs

God I hate these things. After setting up a drug farm in the Swamps my game turned into a horror game all of a sudden

I think you may be wrong about that large red blood spider, when they have "elder" in their name it indicates that they have reached ( possibly ) their maximum age and strength capabilities.

more likely Bugmaster is a greenlander who just happened to live with the spider like their own kind and survive till become the leader of the spiders... he is someone like No-Eye, but way stronger

"It is unknown" this is wrong. Ask the Shekbarman in the last stand, how does he conroll the spiders. "Science" ist the VERY CLEAR ANSWER. So, given to Kenshi parameters of how "knowable" things and lor ARE after all, this is not unknown. unknown by you, till now. What "plaisble" means in yourd wordbook, "one can imagine it, whe not aksing about sense or information in the game" :-) Men, you got teached here.
