I had 3 disk replaced and fused in 2017 Now I have a bad disk above those three and a bad disk below those three. There is also something wrong with the replaced disk in the middle. I have constant pain in neck and shoulders. Every dr I’ve seen said nothing can be done because I will have less neck movement than I do now. Living with pain.

These are all anectodal the studies show high satisfaction rates especially for cervical and is highly contingent on the skill of the surgeon. And I'm a chiropractor so I'm very conservative in approach. I agree comprehensive assessment and diagnosis, and lesser invasive spprosxjes critical prior to surgery.

I had a fusion many years ago that did nothing. *No relief what-so-ever!* In fact 2 screws broke (within 6 months) and the Dr. that did the surgery said nothing can be done about it. About 2 years later 2 more discs are pinching due to pressure caused by the fusion. Can this procedure possibly fix all issues???

I’ve had two artificial disks in my neck since 2019 and they’re great. Had an accident in 2021 resulting in double level lumbar fusion done without my full and prior consent. I wish I’d have had other options. If people knew what recovering from fusions is really like, they’d never have them.

So you perform debridement, but disk material that you remove does not grow back, afaik, so the patient is left with vertebrae with no disc between them. Similar to meniscal debridement of the knee. The knee after debridement is technically ‘bone on bone’ post op. The patient will then require total knee replacement, depending upon his level of post-op activity. If I’m wrong, please tell me.

Looking at these artificial discs: they aren't designed to move in the same motion as a natural disc . Natural is more like a bushing/cushion. Artificial moves in a arc , this changes the center of gravity and range of motion causing faccet joint to get sick .

Hi, I live in Orlando and had a microdiscectomy at L4/5 back in March 2022. Unfortunately, I had another injury at the same disc back in October. Tore a pice off that is impinging on nerves in my back. Have numbness in both feet and sciatic nerve pain on my right leg. Saw my original surgeon and a second surgeon and both recommended a fusion. Scares the hell out of me. Laser surgery could be an option? Thanks

Hello, I really enjoy your videos. I injured my L5/S1 disc roughly 10 years ago and after different treatments and PT ended up having a microdiscectomy and microlaminectomy. I felt great for a decade. A few months ago, I reinjured it and scans show that I have less than 50% of my disc remaining and it is herniated (sciatica and all that pain). Are there any treatments that can increase my disc height to a healthy size (on top of fixing the herniation)?

I had m6-l in London. Still hike few times a week and gym 5 days a week. (No deadlifts or squats ect but that’s just my choice…). BMW’s can fail in one week, rockets can blow up on take off. Totally designed wrong . I am a 6'8" 340 ex pro athlete. I have had seven surgeries in my lumbar spine: my first six were laminectomy . First surgery: woke with burning in my thighs and partially numb feet . Thighs are a honest 7-8 out of ten. I need to add i am gifted with mechanical things and engineering,visualization of work parts. At the beginning of every relationship with these surgeons I would say this surgery sounds like cleaning up debris from a crumbling foundation and not doing anything to add the support lost. Each surgeon really didn't have a strong answer for this. The mouth full of marbles sentence. And they all failed. Each creating excessive scar tissue. I find this surgeon that specializes in fixing others mistakes. We hit it off discussing how bad artificial discs are . Built a friendship. So we are talking complete lumbar fusion. Crazy amount of scar tissue. I find out in recovery. And he has tears in his eyes and said there was 30% i couldn't work on without paralysis. He said I tried for 13 hours . Tears coming strong. Said I have never seen someone walk in a hospital with a spine this ruined. He said in no uncertain terms if this surgery were done first you would be living a normal life taking advil . Any place to go from here?

Here's what I know from doing a modicum of research: 1) Only 2% of artificial discs pop out. I don't know what the stats are on misalignment, either an AD that has been put in wrong or has shifted over time. Then there is the issue of size mismatch. The size of an AD is not custom made pursuant to patient size requirements. 2) This from Dr. Richard Guyer (Texas Spine Institute), the surgeon who fused Tiger Woods: only 40% of patients who have received an artificial spinal disc are pain free post-surgery. He used a baseball analogy: "They hit a home run." So, that leaves 60% who remain in pain after a major surgery where complications can and do occur. Then there are post-surgical issues that can arise years later. Two such complications come to mind but there are plenty more: metallosis and spinal arthritis. 3) Only two LUMBAR artificial disc devices are FDA approved, the ProDisc-L and Active L. Both are ball and socket type devices. There is nothing in the human spine resembling a ball and socket joint, so why use this type of construction for an artificial disc? It makes no sense. The best ADR device is the European LP-ESP device, in my opinion, and it is not a ball and socket device but a visco-elastic device not available in the US. Many Americans, who prefer an AD over a fusion will, after doing their homework, choose the LP-ESP device. But since it is not available in the US they go there. I would too.

I have 2 in low back.. 30 years ago i was 1 off the first. I,m pain free a can do everything. This disk is the only way to have normal live with out pain. Sadly dokter Zeegers died 2 years ago. 2 weeks after the operation you can't expect everything is OK.

I had lumbar laser disc removal. The disc herniated again and the surgery repeated. Disc herniated again and I had bone on bone. I got a Maverick disc replacement in 2004 in a study which I had to pay for and it was a bad decision. I have been in constant pain since. It was a failure for me. 😢

NO! i spoke with one spine surgeon about it as i had 3 herniated lumbar discs. he told me the failure rate on these procedures was 50% so insurance companies stopped paying for them. i am 3 weeks out from an L3,L4,L5 laminectomy and microdiscectomy. i was walking the next day with out pain for the first time in 5 years. i had knee pain and right leg pain. i have to learn how to walk properly again, but damn me it was worth it! M6-C has better success than fusion, over 100,000 in the study. M6-C roughly 87% and fusion only 64% success rate. I work with someone who has the MOBI and it worked great for him. My gf got fusion and she doesnt have same range of motion and has residual pain.

I dont know anybody personally . The only person I know of is a man named Eddie Bravo who is a super athlette top Ju Jitsu competitor who I believ had a desicated disc , not herniated and supposedly it worked AND his sport puts insane pressure of spine , neck and body in general . I have bone on bone L5- S1 abd seruioulsy disbaled . I also have ruptures and 6 bulging discs from serious rear end in a still car by truck. NEVER FELT PAIN despite having the bottom disc bone on bone. I wonder if its better or worse out come when their is no disc , completely dessicated and bone on bone and if its something not just the tech but you need a super surgeon . I am here because It sounded too good to be true . I seruoulsy dont think Eddie is lying as he has no reason too and he would be fucked considering his life revolves around his neck and spine not only working but working extremely well to do a sport that is all about choking and apply pressure to joints and body . Many were walking nearly right away and I met a guiy HIKING on like ADVANCED TRAIL that was steep , long and terrain , randomly bullshitting and he had his hip done less the 2 weeks eaarlier , he wasnt running up it but NO WAY I COULD TELL and most folk would struggle to do this trail . THEN he says its his second one in not that long. I see people get then who are REALLY MESSED UP , terrible pain and its like magic and the rehab is hardly anything . Some people fell better then when their hip was good , supposedly they actually get the legs closer in length and balanced then how your born if one leg is shorter or body symmetry is off and it feels and performas great . I know SO MANY HIP REPLACEMENT PEOPLE and apparently lots of good surgeons , the more surgeries done the better a surgeon gets generally ,up to a point Im sure and natural talent , love of the job /ego in wanting to be the best , youngish with good hands and crisp brain but the surgeopn who has done more procedures usually works out to do them best or at least its a good sign before you look into other metrics . But BACK , good lord its a scary thing trying to get educated and NOBODY , at least me wants to go litely into something , particularly something new and innovated which means no tons of long term data on the different proprietary hardware that supposedly evolevs quicik as well as a long enough period time and sample group. The first hip replacement I heard about was like 45 years ago on another kid who had one small short leg birth defect that wore it out and Im sure it wasnt new. He said it was kinda new and they didnt last that long and would have to get new ones as he aged but he didnt have to wear an erector set on his leg anymore or a frankenstien shoe and had a limp but not the worst and did home iprovements and construction so Ive always been HIP to them . Knee replacements I have see people struggle with with rehab and end results , albeit in their 60s . But I have had pectoral muscle complete tear with are tendons and ligaments re attached and that is brutal to rehab and takes a year before yopu know if it relly worked , hurts like hell for a long while in sling, sleeping in chairs and then slow application of resistance training that hurts and your weak . I was able eventually to do 100 consecutive push ups in a row deep into my 40s that I never had done when younger with all the rehab jso a major success but KNEE REPLACEMENT is similar in that theyt cut all the connective tissue as though you had a major injury that tore then and re attcahe them which is a serious thing , my mom had then and she was fit but it wasnt awesome but I dont know that her surgeon was the shit of which I always wonder , everybody wants the best but everybody cant get him or her or dont know . I am almost afraid to do all the research , including this to find out something I thought was cutting edge and possibly less horrific then surgeries for my particular thing I had watched be done , saw the graphics and explanations as well as followed some people who had them , and now it seems complete BS of which is also not helpful because it makes you lose faith in surgeons , medical profession and medical tech companies . This type of denigration of one approach, over a preferred one - by the surgeon, does not pass my smell test, for very obvious reasons. I doubt that I will see a reply, but if I do, please answer these questions. What if ADR is the only alternative to a 4 level fusion, which was clearly stated as undesirable? Lastly, I am hearing nothing about cleaning up the boney tissue around the joints. Does laser handle that as well? I'll wait. Thank you.

Artificial disc replacement is for degenerative disc disease, where the only other option is disc fusion, which is much worse. The pain after getting artificial discs is from the tendons being stretched. From almost no disc left to a full disc it’s essentially getting a sprain. Physical Therapy after the surgery is normal for this reason. You are using people who got the surgery unnecessarily for reasons other than degenerative disc disease and not explaining why the normal pain is there after is misleading.

Funny enough, i had this surgery 21 days ago. I felt tightness in my shoulders but all of my previous pain was gone. By week two I was walking 3 miles a day and felt incredible. I have worked in the Medical Device business for years. The manufacturers cannot create deals with surgeons. The amount of oversight between manufacturers and Doctors is incredible nowadays. With all due respect, this Doctor is sharing a strongly biased opinion about a procedure that he would rather get you to do. He is focusing on the pain and fear parts rather than sharing the patient anatomy or information that he has no clear way of providing an accurate perspective on. Imagine a Doctor who does an exam but doesn’t have any patient information beyond an opinion that is posted on Facebook. You wouldn’t want that Doctor to treat you with limited information. Artificial disc is superior but you have to actually have a skilled surgeon to do it. You can’t just go to any surgeon. Fusions are easy. ADR is not, placement, size, patient selection is crucial. This guy isn’t skilled enough to do so. Not to mention, ADR is an easier recovery than fusion. This guy probably tells patients micro discectomy’s last a lifetime

Well you reached your goal to make people feel bad about themselves for making the decisions in the past that they thought we're the best for them at the time. All cases have unique needs and your method may work for one person but believe it or not some are better served by other procedures or a combination of techniques. Stop beating your solo drum!

I am about 7 weeks out from a 3 stage acdf. At this point I regret having the surgery. I was in mild to moderate pain before and now I am in severe pain and I can't sleep. My legs are swollen. I am not doing well.

I am two weeks out exactly from ACDR at C5-6 & C6-7 and my surgeon told me I would have up and down days for the next few weeks. This was my seventh overall spine procedure since 1997. Your banging on against disc replacement and fusion as you referred to a cage in addition to artificial discs saying the surgeons are in bed with the medical companies selling the hardware. Understandable because your trying to sell your laser surgery which doesn't open up the disc space which in all likelihood caused the ruptured disc. Your selling a treatment that will eventually either need to be performed again or a discectomy and fusion or artificial disc to widen the disc space. We as back pain/degenerate disc disease patients for the most part know what the deal is and nothing is guaranteed especially in spine surgery!! My first three spine surgeries happened in the late nineties when I was nineteen & twenty years old. I didn't have another for seventeen years and the way they do things nowadays compared to the late nineties the latter is now considered archaic!. I didn't know really what to expect as my cervical disc arthroplasty two weeks ago was an absolute godsend. I've only known archaic surgical methods that are not used anymore and spinal fusions. My normal orthopedic surgeon wasn't able to get me in in the time frame necessary and there was only one other option where I live that my regular orthopedic surgeon and my pain specialist were ok with. It turned out that the orthopedic surgeon they sent me to moved mountains and schedules to get me into the last surgical slot of the year. Within twelve hours of waking up from surgery I was 85% pain free in the neck and left arm and shoulder. In addition some weakness in my legs that I thought was due to failed lumbar surgery was really in my neck and that cleared up too. I would be 100% off of narcotic pain medication if it were not for the archaic three failed surgeries in 1997 & 1998. The fill in orthopedic surgeon did his fellowship at Harvard and gave me what no other surgeon has been able to do and that was to perform a surgery where the results were immediate and the most painful thing of any of it was the bloody foley catheter. Just because you cherry picked some failures on Facebook doesn't make the whole industry a scam. Pretty irresponsible if you ask me but it makes sense I get it your selling a different method is all. One that is a quick fix and doesn't offer any longevity now does it?
