I'm a Bolton Wanderers fan and have been for 65yrs, i live in Wales a mile from where he lived when he went to Hawarden school,,,, one the most successful periods for us was when Gary played for us, he signed a Bolton Wanderers history book i had, but not before he spent 10mins talking to me about it,, i cherish his autograph, Rest in Peace Gary,,
Gary went to Deeside High School before moving to Hawarden High School. Not looking to score points against you, but he had good freinds and proud Teachers at Deeside before moving.
Know how you feel mate. He was such a warm character and such fond memories of him. He's the reason I support Leeds and I've a soft spot for the clubs he played for. He was a gem. And I miss him so much. When I watch football focus or motd, I would love to hear what he had to say. He had the rest of his life ahead of him. He will never be forgotten. Rip Gary
As of time of writing the Welsh national men's team have qualified for 2 European Championships (including a semi final in 2016) and will now go to a World Cup for the first time since 1958. Every Welsh fan knows it all started with Gary
he was a brilliant football player & manager a wonderful human being. I'm a mags fan & when nufc got him they signed the greatest football talent ever may god rest him x
nearly 9 months and I still can't believe he is gone. not a fan of any of the clubs he played for but he seemed one of the good guys in football. A consumate professional that nobody seemed to have a bad word to say about. RIP
Even now seven years later can't believe he's gone, what a legend at every club he played for,he was a credit to the Welsh as a footballer and a perfect statesman to represent them to the world, from an English Leeds fan he'll never be forgotten! Marching On Together!
The government are obsessed with our physical health, always lecturing us about our nicotine and alcohol intake, but I believe our mental health is far more important. I would rather have 40 happy years than 80 miserable ones. And it is deaths like this that hurt the most. RIP Gary Speed finally at peace, lets hope he encourages more people to seek help before it is too late.
One year has passed. Still feels like yesterday. Football and the world still misses you greatly Gary. Hoping the Elland Road fans tomorrow give you a stunning tribute, will be there in spirit listening from my room in Australia in the early morning hours. R.I.P. Gary Speed MOT!
he never played for my team, but, one of the most shocking and saddest days I have known in football was the day I heard the news, I just thought it was a poor joke, sadly it wasn't, one of those very few players that no matter where he played, most football fans loved him and respected him immensely, still sad to this day, a true legend of the game.
Thanks for posting this video. What a huge loss to welsh football. Still can't believe it. I hope you are now at peace, Gary. Wales will never forget you.
I think I am right in saying that despite Roy Keane being suspended for the 1999 UCL final, had he not he would have missed it anyway as the late great Gary Speed tackled him in the early opening minutes of the final which resulted in Roy being injured and substituted by Teddy Sheringham who went in to score the first goal in the FA Cup final in was what to be is the most historical history of Man United God Bless and Rest in Peace the legend that is the late great Gary Speed.
Deppression strikes like lightning. One second your for yourself the next your against. It's hard to get it back and you never believe you will. Always waiting for the " I knew it". Moments to come. A sleeping Monster in your head.
God bless you Speedo, I will always reflect fondly on your career and achievements, I'm sure our love will travel to you wherever you are. You'll never walk alone, x x x x
i WILL never forget you Speedo and WILL wonder every day of my life i think as to why you took the grimest course of action possible. Peace to you my friend xxx
What an absolute gentleman,He was one of the best players that played against the Blades and also one of the best to play for and Manage us.The day we lost this Legend was one of the saddest days ever.Us Blades will always love ya Gary along with every other club a team you played for or managed.RIP 🫶
i call on all Speedos fans who are not welsh to consider to be welsh for 1 night. February 29th, will be Wales v Costa Rica game - a tribute night as opposed to just a game. see you there xxx
he was sexually abused by Barry Bennell :( along with several other school boys. Mentioned in the BBC documentary; I forget its name. I hope you are now at peace Gary
As much as that's still speculation and can't be proven as of yet I tend to agree that a trauma like that at such a young age can trigger something like that in later life. Even some world war 2 veterans have said that the trauma they suffered in war affected them a lot more in later life rather than their 20's and 30's
respect to gary speed. normally i would put mark hughes somber manner being down to the topic of the documentary, but after watching an old documentary with him as a player in it and seeing him interviewed on MOTD and after live matches on sky it is obvious why he is a very average manner, the guys tone never seems to change, he has no personality whatsoever and is one of the most miserable looking people that ive ever seen involved in the game...
Certainly some strange things must have been going on I read that he left 1 million in his will to his wife and kids. A guy who played professional football for more than 20 years must have earned tens of millions. Where did all the money go? A guy who had seemingly everything guys dream of, got paid for having fun, the trophy wife, healthy kids, flash home, flash car, pots of money. But still it wasn't enough to bring happiness. Was he abused? Was he gay? Was he being blackmailed? Was he leading a secret life? I guess the mystery will never be solved
First of all Gary did not have tens of millions. In the 90's the money was good but certainly not that good so I'm not sure what you're getting at there. The one theory that holds water is that he might have been abused by paedophile football scout Barry Benell. For a kid that's something that can completely destroy you emotionally. But like you say we might never know but if you Google Barry Benell Gary Speed there are a few news outlets that make a compelling argument that this is the most likely cause of his depression. Heartbreaking to this day as I'm a proud Welsh football fan
