brilliant... 1. introduce a new, more standardized derailleur hanger to finally eliminate the mess they were before 2. get as many manufacturers to play along as possible 3. now you've got thousands of frames prepared for your new drivetrain all around the world. A derailleur attaching directly to the frame would have been completely impossible before with what feels like every single frame having a different derailleur hanger and frame design around it. Now the market is becoming ready for such a radical change to derailleurs.

If your buying a $1,600 "transmission" I don't think you're gonna care about the cost of replacement parts. And if you do, don't buy AXS. To your point though, the bigger concern is the durability of the frame. I assume SRAM already did it, but I need to see long term testing on the actual frame, cause I don't understand how carbon wouldn't absorb a lot of the impact.

@Nicoya
@Nicoya Год назад
I think the UDH, which the transmission mount is based on, essentially mounts to your thru-axle (like it's still retained in the frame but gets more of its strength from the axle being screwed into it) so you'd have to crash hard enough to bend your thru-axle to actually sustain frame damage and at that point I'd imagine you'd just be happy to survive whatever hellish incident your bike just went through.

@Megadeth6633
@Megadeth6633 Год назад
I'm no engineer, but I'm not worried about the frame getting damaged having the axle/hub take the hit. If your frame does get damaged, as in broken stays, it probably would have gotten damaged anyways with a normal hanger. I'm more worried about the derailleur itself not withstanding the hit and having to replace that part more often than you should. We will have to see if it is actually more cost effective than just replacing a flimsy hanger. I doubt replacing the derailleur "chassis" is cheaper than a little hanger, so it HAS to last. Do Sram engineers understand the purpose of a derailleur hanger? A - it protects the Derailleur, B - it protects the frame from getting damaged. With it mounted to the axle the force is now getting applied directly to the frame and to the Derailleur. Surely an integrated derailleur hanger into the design would of been the best approach to still make it easy to set up and to create a more universal hanger with also reducing the need for replacing parts on the Derailleur (having this option is also a good idea still though).
@scottyh72

Typically, if you bend the hanger on a modern bike, the derailleur has been bent as well. The idea of the hanger is sound, but the reality is that it rarely saves the derailleur. The frame, now that's another story, and it will be interesting to see how that unfolds.

simply “over engineered”…not mention the design is uglier than previous XX1 AXS. My derailleur hangar is just fine, never failed, can shift flawlessly under load

Amazing, SRAM. I only was going to mention that your animation video on the Eagle Transmission homepage showing the GX derailleur has a ridonculously low 24 fps. Wwhich looks a little embarrassing because it's so choppy. This can only be an oversight, right? Please, fix

I clicked this video because I thought SRAM was finally promoting a sealed gearbox transmission. The average department store bicycle transmission is probably pedaled more miles than the average SRAM 1X. “When your only tool is a derailleur, every problem looks like a SRAM” -a mountain biking curmudgeon, who has pocketed dozens of broken SRAM eagle chain trail litter. Consider a Pinion, Rohloff, or 2x equipped mountain bike, if you want to ever exceed 16MPH and/or continue pedaling your investment after 2 years.

I was looking forward to this until I saw the wireless shifter pods. We wanted smaller, not larger. Also, 1x system can get by with only 2 buttons, one on each side of the handlebar. Reverb AXS could engage with a dual button press.

After two years of use, I had a bad experience with a GX Eagle AXS : one of the pogo pins making the connection between the battery and the derailleur broke. Of course warranty was void by two months. When contacted for a solution SRAM answered me that unfortunately there was nothing they can do to fix my problem. Solution proposed: buy a new derailleur!! I will think about it twice next time, that's for sure.

Can't wait to snap my frame instead of my derailleur hanger, that's an incredible feature SRAM! Makes it a lot easier to justify throwing out a bike every year, "sorry honey, SRAM made this sweet transmission that makes my frame snap instead of a $15 aluminum part, I just *have* to get a new bike now!" CONSUME CONSUME CONSUME

Electronic shifting for ebikes. What happens with regular bikers? We have to use heavy overbuilt stuff that was designed for ebikes or enduro bikes? This is silly. Look at how much a eagle derraileur weighs against a 10 speed xx. Not to mention the cassette. I was always a sram fan but moved on since they pushed the oneby trend. It is great for many, but not all bikers.

Hello, should be possible to install it also on a not “UDH” bike. Hopefully this will come in the near future, because a lot of mtb still don’t have the option to switch at the moment to this amazing system.

So can I put this on my old bike a 2011 Norco Phaser One? I have Shimano XTR on it. Also will this be the industry standard and will Shimano make their own kind as well or you're locked in your patent for this tech.

Oh joy, Something new that works right up until the app decides it’s not going to work, or gets the support cut, then what? Tech for techs sake, because they can, not because people really really want it. £3k for a group set! No thanks, not spending that amount of money on bike gears, no matter how brilliant the manufacturer says it is.

All im seeing and hearing here is proprietary proprietary proprietary... Quite honestly I'm sick of companies locking you into an ecosystem. This may have it's place but deffo not as a mainstream product for those that already own bikes they want to modify.
