I was very excited until I realized my brand new canyon lux trail, that costs as much as a used car, doesn't support this. Also the price for gx set is over 1k euros Jesus christ... I want shimano to do smth like this, from my experience I like shimano brakes and even slx shifting more than all the gx/nx I had
I’m running the new XX T type transmission on my newly built full Sus. Sure isn’t cheap but it’s fantastic. I have XO cable shifting drivetrain on my hard tail which is great too but the way you can change under load is a game changer. The harder you pedal the better it shifts gear, Sram are knocking it out and the park with this. Shimano needs to catch up but tricky as the UDH was a Sram development, paving the way for this progression 👌👍
Have you tried Shimano HG+? It shifts great under load, without the need for any electronic timing. Granted I haven't tried the t-type so I can't compare. I don't think the udh is necessary for the electronic shift timing here, just allows for a more rigid mounting interface.
@@blinky2035 Admittedly I haven’t tried the Shimano HG+ so unfortunately can’t compare either. The UDH was obviously a Sram development that yes uses this for a stronger direct fitment and allows the cassette to be moved outboard a couple of millimetres, almost butting up to the derailleur therefore removing the need for limit screws and B screw. I’m sure Sram will have some form of patent in this interface which Shimano and others will need to get around. Possibly a cable mechanism could be developed but the electronic axs does away with cables and clutter and shifts cleanly due to the cassette mapping.
Excellent presentation. Should have watched it before losing the bottom cap after 2 days of using it. It looks like the red tag needs to be removed when the cap off/not installed (came installed from the factory). I have the AXS GX with the old controller, a lot easier to use vs the Pod. Actually I plan to use the old controller with the T-Type. Other than that, the X0 Eagle T-Type AXS that I have works great, changing gears is crisp and very fast, somehow it feels a lot better vs the XX1 with cable and lever.
Nice video, thanks! Value and performance minded here.. imho I'll stick with my Shimano SLX. Works so flawlessly and at such a good price point, what's not to like...
I have the XX SL version and the pod works great. The adjustability is great and so much better than the previous version and a plus is that it is lighter.
Great review and comparison. I own the original controller and like it. The rocker paddle was poorly designed and has play before it actually clicks. The new pods have great functionality but they look kinda toyish looking. The aesthetics might not be for everyone.
Doesn’t look like there’s a 3rd button on the back like before. That’s worth noting. Thumb has to be wrapped around the bar to shift. Currently, I can downshift when with my pointer finger when my thumb is on top of the bar on climbs.
I've been excited to see this deep dive vid thankyou!!!I'm curious as to which one that you like the best Marcos(old style new style).I ended up ditching the old style paddle for the rocker and that was a game changer for me and in the app I set it up just like the xt shifter that I replaced(up cassette 3 gears at a time and down 2 gears at a time).I've heard the new shifter is a bit to tactile with the button push?Cheers!!!!
Great Video! Question: On SRAM's website they show 3 versions of the SRAM AXS POD Ultimate Electronic Controller (B1, C1, D1). What's the difference between those three?
I'm running the old AXS Controllers on two bikes, one is XX1 Quality, the other is GX. The difference is only the metal casing and the grey shiny look of the XX1. The haptics are exactly the same. With closed eyes, I can't say which one I'm using. I have no deeper experience with the Transmission AXS Controllers but had my fingers on a GX and later on a X0 last week at my dealers showroom. The GX casing felt a little hollow, not a high quality feel. The X0 met my expectations, full feeling. Now I'm wondering if there's a quality difference between GX and X0 in the latest generation ?
I got XO version and positioning of this lever on the bars is really poor. My Magura bar clamp right on the way where I would install this shifter. And there is no matchmaker or something. Quite tricky, I would say.
@@stepan.furman not the most versatile I agree. But they do have the matchmaker clamp lookup online - www.etsy.com/ca/listing/1665968661/axs-wireless-shift-pod-adapter-for?gpla=1&gao=1&&EAIaIQobChMIkZT7o7eDiAMVKnJ_AB0W0g-XEAQYAyABEgJIAfD_BwE_k_&gad_source=1&gbraid=0AAAAADutTMenDNNzFOiRgG5fU8TlwNCez&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIkZT7o7eDiAMVKnJ_AB0W0g-XEAQYAyABEgJIAfD_BwE
Im looking to trade in my rail 9.9 for the t type how well does it last, I do a lot of miles and the shifting while powering is a win for me, but Im guessing it eats chains and cassettes.
I recently got the T-Type AXS XX and the new pod controller. I find the small buttons difficult to use. I much prefer the Shimano Di2 shifters. Really this is my only complaint with T-Type system.
I did just that. Switched to the AXS Rocker Controller. Much better. BikeRadar agreed with me that the AXS Pod controller is inferior in ergonomics and the small rubber buttons fall out.
I still haven't seen anyone mention the existence or absence of a button on the forward side of the pod controller. I use my right index finger to upshift all the time as an alternative to the thumb buttons on my 2021 Eagle XX1 AXS pod. I'm weary of watching these review videos and no one mentions whether there is an index finger button to use as an option on the new pod controller
@@LoveMTB I would encourage you to elaborate on this to help your audience make more informed decisions. I did notice it, but I had to look closely and quickly since it wasn't intentionally pointed out either as a flaw or a positive with the new pod. As for me, that is a big negative for the new pod
Are you aware of anyone making a mount for this shifter to put the buttons horizontal? I'd like this shifter with left/right buttons rather than up/down buttons.
@@LoveMTB Have you heard about people having trouble with Transmission skipping/crunching? I just did a GX t type install on a 22' SJ Evo, and have had issues with it skipping on certain gears. I re torqued the derallieur and it's better but still needs micro adjustments. There's a thread on MTBR "got-sram-transmission-got-problems-post-here" it's an interesting read, curious your thoughts and experience, might make an interesting video. To me they try to advertise it as 'setup free' ie no B screw adjustment, but they just changed how you set the b measurement..?
@@AM-bl2cs If you follow my how-to chances are everything will work! 😉 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-hT4g8HrbU6A.html Transmission can work ok for a wide range of micro adjustments, keep playing with that to balance up and down the cassette chain movement. And for me Shimano HG+ can be better...
I have two bikes. One with the old AXS shifter and a brand new bike with the XX SL Sram T-Type AXS Pod Controller. I don't like the new Pod Controller at al, i have to put whit the finger on the pod, while I could just put on the old one. I replace the new Pod Controller to the old. Is it easy to change it? Thanks for your tip.
Hey I'm getting a new bike soon, it comes with XO Transmission and a wireless seatpost and I never would have picked these things but it was the only spec offered. I don't have money to throw at customization and hate wasting things, but I also never want to have to charge batteries ever for a ride for the groupset or seatpost, so what should I do? I don't want to ever pay the exorbitant prices for replacing the cassette and chain too. Can I break even paying a shop to remove and replace the xo t and axs reverb and selling them, do I even have a good chance of selling a previously installed but not used set, and what should I replace it (SLX with XT shifter the best min/max)? What would yall do in this situation? Most people have just told me they'd be jealous and would just use it, but I don't want to... Ah I forgot, still new to this, since my wheels are built with sram drivers? I don't know if that's something that can be easily/cheaply swapped or it'd mean I'd have to get the whole wheels rebuilt to work with shimano and so I'm better off sticking with just wired gx/xo? Still so much to learn about all this stuff
What about colliision with frame? My current AXS controllers just clears my top tube if bars are spun more than 90 degree, something that would happen during a crash.
Is the only difference between the two new transmission pod shifters (ultimate and non ultimate) the ability to change the concave/convex buttons on the ultimate ? Thanks!
I can’t get my controller pod to stop moving on the bars, tried all sorts like carbon paste, isopropyl clean etc and even at 4nm with a bit of pressure the clamp spins round, very frustrating
I have a question about this pod controller. Can it also function as a dropper button if you press both buttons at the same time? On road bike brake levers from sram red or force axs you can press both buttons to drop the saddle, while they individually just shift. That would allow to save weight on the left side dropper controller.
@@Ropetable It is small indeed but enough space between buttons that you won't be able to press on both at the same time even if you wanted to. Plus for MTB shifting gears and operating the dropper at the same time is not uncommon.
@@LoveMTB yeah, well could have been :) its always nice to have options. The future will be to have a pod on the right and a pod on the left, the left one for dropper and axs suspension.
Have You ever tried mixing Shimano 12 speed cassette with Eagle chain? I've got a brand new XX1 chain and got a chance to get a new XT cassette for $70 but not sure if it'll work at all.
Same here it’s a good idea just the click/ the feel…I’m sure they must have done some beta testing with rider input for that one specific click or feel. And this is all they came up with?🤓
@@LoveMTB to see the size of it , to appreciate the difference with the old shifter pcb. for what ? to see if a deported button is much more easier to do
Nice vid, thanks. But for me SRAM setups are a big NO. I just can't afford it, even the mechanical ones as the cassettes are prohibitively expensive. The value proposition is nowhere in sight compared to Shimano. Maybe when I open my own Dental clinic...
Interesting. My mechanical shifter does not need new finger pads like this one does. This electronic crap solves like one problem, but introduces like 17 other problems
And when you crash, and it snaps off,or even completely smashes, can you fix the rear mech to a specific gear with a cable? If you cant, this is overpriced, over engineering,id stick to a cable mech,at least you can get out of trouble by securing a gear with a cable!
And if the cable snaps? Have seen that happen. As long as the mech is fine you can ride in that gear… there is also the app on your phone which connects to axs.
You can shift the derailleur by pressing the AXS button on it, you could get home by switching gears manually through the derailleur if you break the shifter. However, if you got a hit so bad you broke the shifter, most likely you won't be in a condition to ride home.
