Nice review! A good look at German and Soviet infantry sprues that are pretty core to many lists. On the topic of women in the Red Army, have you ever heard of the Night Witches RPG by Jason Morningstar? There are rules for simulating bombing missions and roleplaying the barracks drama, scrounging for supplies and what not, in a campaign game that runs the whole war. I played it with some friends and it was really good stuff. We even got some Zvesda 1/144 Polikarpov Po-2 models for visual aids...
Fantastic starter set and hope to get most of the models based and base coated this weekend :). Great timing as I Am sat outside waiting for Swansea Wargame Club to open up at 6 30 for a game of MId War Flames of War :).
Nice infantry and arty set. Edit: I added a storm group as a Hero SMG Company (lovely sculps, soft plastic tho) using them with Bagration stats, also a Hero T-34 platoon, 82mm mortars and a few more units included in this box, now the painting of the Soviet "hordes" of inf and crews 😅
As I'm just getting back into wargames I was most attracted by the kursk and stalingrad sets. Great review it would be nice to see a out of the box game.
Which starter box is best for a new starter who also wants to get into Chain of Command when there are no preferences regarding factions? Hit the beach or Stalingrad?
Regarding komissars in the Red army, I *believe* that they existed at the company level (with equivalent rank to a company commander and the ability to countermand orders) through October of 1942. After that they adopted the term "political deputy" and were present at the battalion level and above. I'm not an expert though.
@@ModellingforAdvantage thats the thing every bit of research i have done never shows panzergrenadier unit organization till 1944. i believe until 44 they were organized like regular infantry as a 9 man squad. i cant find documentation of anything else. it could also be that when the organization was upgraded to the 2 mg system in 44 they disposed of the old documents because it wasnt relevant anymore. its a mess. which is a sentiment that my collage history prof also shared with me when we discussed this same topic years ago. i wish i could of found a source to give you sorry.
I was thinking of buying this one or the Kursk one. But im going to buy the DAK Panzer company since im taking Afrika korp and my friend is taking the Armoured fist.
@@Warriorofgothenburg you are gonna want some infantry. Unfortunately the flames of war ones are not available. I am looking at Sjytrex ones currently. Hoping to put together a review soon.
The other gun which can be build from the ZiS-3 76mm gun sprue is the 57mm AT gun which is very efffective. The soviet 45mm AT-gun is on the Nebelwerfer sprue which can also build the german 37mm PaK 36 AT-gun.
My idea for putting small guns on medium bases in FoW: Cut the crew minis carefully from their bases. Use the minis bases as plugs on the medium bases. If you do so you can place the crew freely in the medium base which makes things much easiers. I did it and it is really worth the effort.
I know i'm a bit late on this, the other barrel is for the ZIS2 50mm but why would you model it rather than the ZIS3, it's why I love the SU-76. BTW "I am not a number, I am a free man!" I have the same No 6 pin, bought in Portmeirion. "Be seeing you"
Great review:). Lot’s of tourney players range in with smoke just to get the ranged in marker down then switch to the painful ranged in bombardment from the next turn.
@@ModellingforAdvantage I am not really a tourney player, but is a good way of getting 5 games in on a weekend and you get to experience tricks like using smoke to get the ranged on marker down. I wish there were more one day events with two or three games.
I don’t play this game. As much as I want to get one of these starters the infantry are just way too tiny for me to paint. That being said, I still watch all these videos. I love your commentary on the vehicles and overall historical info. Keep up the good work.
