the 94 and 95 devils were their best teams. Game 6 and 7 in 94 were two of the greatest games in playoff history. In 95 the devils swept the Red Wings in 4 and the Red Wings were the heavy favorites. Give the Devils their due!!!!
Love those stories about Stevens. “He had veins popping out of his neck.” It’s amazing how he set the tone just a month into the season. An absolute legend. Classic!
You know someone’s pissed when they have veins popping out of their neck but at the same time the passion definitely comes out and he set the tone for them for the rest of the season
That 2000 devils team was probably better and more talented, and certainly played a more up tempo style of hockey that was very un devil like, but this 2003 devils team had a ton of grit, had more veteran leadership, was very well balanced
@@jamesvazquez2491 In comparison to the 2000 and 2003 champions, the 1995 team was simply a juggernaut that couldn't be stopped. The first one is always the best one.
I just attended the 20th reunion celebration of the 2003 Cup, prior to the Devs game on Sat. night . Most of the players were there, and now the team looks on the upswing again. LGD!
I'm surprised they didn't mention Scott Niedermayer playing against his own brother, Rob, on the Ducks. I remember it got a lot of media play that year. Their mom wanted Rob to win because Scott already had 2 cups. Of course they would win together in 07. Then later, Rob would be traded to Jersey.
Fun facts about the 2003 Devils playoff run: - only 1 home loss all playoffs - marty brodeur with 7 shutouts (3 in the cup finals) - Ducks only scored 3 goals in NJ total jeff friesen and jamie langenbrunner were studs this playoff year, and yes JS Giguere played out of his mind. BUT that conn smythe belongs to Martin Brodeur.
All the big time announcers were in this video! Mike “doc” Emrick, Jim Hugdson, Gary Thorne, gord Miller, and many more regional broadcasters and others from the current days in 2020! Yes I’m only here watching because I’m curious to see what hockey was like the year I was born in 2003 I on,y began watching hockey in 2011 and now since then I’ve become a bigger fan most from 2017 till today!
This playoff ps was all about the goalies Brodeur was fantastic the devils had so many guys who could’ve won the cup but the rare occurrence that the team who lost in the finals gets the MVP of the playoffs happened as Giguere won the Conn Smythe Trophy he deserved it and the ducks had a great underdog run this season the devils are just the best team in that span of 5-6 years no question
No,they were great, but 2002 Red Wings are the best team I've ever seen...& I'm a Colorado fan! Mind you,I've only been following the NHL closely, since 1995. So I'm not including teams before that. But Detroit, Colorado,NJ...none of the teams today,or since the salary cap was instituted, can even compare to those teams. You just can't stockpile the depth of star power of those teams. But 2002 Detroit had like 10 HOFers or something,& while I admit Colorado was very fortunate to beat NJ in 2001...Roy kinda stole that series...Avs were playing without arguably the best player in the world at the time...Peter Forsberg. Who only missed the entire 2002 regular season...came back,& led the NHL playoffs in scoring-despite the Avs not even making the Cup Finals, then won the Hart this season....2003.
Gotta love Stanley cup champs mini movies it’s better than a highlights package! U did a great job putting this together for us to watch it gave us a perfect journey through the devils road to the cup!
Hf all of the talent, all of the players who knew what it took too win, thats what the Oil need behind McDavid and Draisaitl, and then we’ll start winning that cup
It’s weird watching hockey from days I didn’t watch it live well for these games I wasn’t born yet but I obviously wasn’t cheering for anyone nor did I have fandom but now looking back I think I know who I would have cheered for but then again that’s me saying that now! Only watching games I didn’t watch live I can argue I can see a point to cheer for both teams normally that ain’t gonna happen unless it’s a like like or hate hate situation
Dynasty teams now from the 2010s Boston, Pittsburgh, LA, Chicago, Washington, And st.louis. Back in the 2000s it was Detroit, Anaheim, Colorado, New Jersey, Edmonton, And Carolina. 2020s?
Jordan Perepolkin Pittsburgh and Chicago are the only dynasty’s since. You have to win multiple cups. St. Louis? Washington? Bruins? Those teams have won cup in 15 years, they aren’t dynasties.
"The celebration starts the New Jersey Devils for the third time in their history have won the Stanley Cup. They Devils 3 the Ducks nothing. DEVILS STANLEY CUP CHAMPIONS!"
Still a shame the Devils had to split up the A-Line, but another reason for that was losing Mogilny. Once Mogilny left, the Devils had a lot less depth. You kinda had to spread them out at that point. And I guess that ticked off Arnott, Elias, Sykora ... hence the necessity of a trade.
I might've gone with Brodeur with his 3 shutouts in the final series. But Langenbruner would be a very close second. If I had to choose someone from the Devils that is.
Ottawa was better the entire series. I remember saying that I felt the ice was always tilted. How we won this series still remains a miracle. It was ashamed what happened to Pat Burns
@@davidrosca8059 Hmmm Devils skating around with the cup ecause the final score was 3 to 0 Says otherwise....Too bad the Devils did not measure GIggy's ILLEGAL PADS...
@@davidrosca8059 WOW you really are that stupid...so I guess the flyers won. the cup in 1987 because they inCORrECTLY gave the conn smythe to Hextall...yet OILERS won the series. Why am I even talking to a loser like you??? YOu are beyond stupid...go look for a 2003 DUcks Champions shirt...they exist ONLY in third world countries and I et you had no clue about Hextall. Even Ducks fans think you are an idiot
I'm not sure if it was a big factor, but Brodeur mentioned in his book how some of the teammates were disappointed in Sykora for not playing through an ankle injury during the opening round loss to Carolina. I think some of the vets saw Sykora horsing around after being eliminated and it rubbed them the wrong way. It wouldn't be shocking if Lou was upset. I was initially excited to get Friesen and Tverdovsky. We got a decent year out of Friesen at least, but he didn't quite have the jets he did when he was with San Jose. Not sure why Tverdovsky's play fell off a cliff to the point where nobody wanted to sign him after that season. When we got him, he was only a year removed from back-to-back 50 point seasons. I was happy that Sykora got to end his career as a Devil at least. Elias leaving Sykora hanging after scoring a goal in Winnipeg was classic.
Survey : Which Devils Championship team was the best? 1995, 2000, 2003? I think 2000 is my pick! This was a great year though! Game 7 against Ottawa was intense 2001 Devils was another great team, I feel if Brodeur had a better playoffs that year they would of beat Colorado, guess he made up for it in 03
In my opinion 2003, I was living with my older brother at that time. Watching that Championship when it was older brother vs younger brother was amazing to watch.
The league killed the Devils with all their stupid rule changes and it set them back decades. Finally, they've started to draft well and have some high-end talent, but need to address goaltending ASAP. Joe Nieuwendyk's eyes look soulless
Not sure where her allegiances lie now, but she attended some '03 playoff games and got an on ice photo with the Cup. She had a short-lived sitcom in 2003 and had an episode where the premise involved her going to a Devils/Rangers game on a blind date. Stevens/Gomez made brief cameos. The show was pretty bad, but you can find the episode on RU-vid. I found it amusing that Whoopi Goldberg crashed the 2003 Cup celebration while pro wrestler Bill Goldberg crashed the 2000 one. The pictures of the latter are still amusing.
Ugh was excited to see this pop up on youtube as a mega devils fan but wow Whoopi takes me right out of it. Why would they get one of the planets dumbest people to narrate this amazing event
Nothing in this about Game 7 semi-final referee Bill McCreary. A pathetic display of favouratism. Calls 2 penalties against Ottawa in the first half of the 3rd period .... then in the last 6:30 proceeds to ignore holding , interference , cross checking , slew-foot stick lift combo of Marion Hossa's entire body off the ice, tackling , holding the stick , blowing the whistle when Brodeur is nowhere near it to freeze the puck , high sticking. Not a single penalty against New Jersey in the 3rd of the Game 7 semi final. Congratulations Bill McCreary. Did you get a Stanley Cup ring for robbing the Ottawa Senators at their chance?
