Nice job! ✨ I just got done w day 3 of cleaning/polishing my Record 405… taking long since I’m doing it by hand with a small brass brush and Mothers polish… brushing every nook n cranny, every single screw and thread, rod holes, etc. Day 4-5 will be with a high speed drill and buff wheel for final polish.
I know you mentioned missing much of attachment of the new handles, but can you elaborated on the tote specifically? I’ve seen some just glue it on and I saw that you used brass rod?? If so, what size and do you ave any tips from the learning curve you encountered, that we might benefit from?
Thanks for watching. I used 3/16 brass rods for the main handle. The tote post looked like it was originally threaded with an acme type rounded thread. I used a JB weld epoxy putty and drilled out the tote to a press fit. That worked really well for me. If you find an original and want to keep the handle remember the pins go in one side and through the center but not all the way through the wood. I ruined the original handle figuring that out.
