I would say for complete gameplay this is how the progression would look. Cutlass Black > MSR > Carrack. These three ships will get you the most gameplay in SC within a solar system. Add a Kraken to be interstellar and some fighters small and mid-size (Gladius and Sabre combo) and you are set. That way you add RRR capability
a lot of people have been asking about the music that's playing in the background during the tour. It's the song that they play in Wally's bar at night on MicroTech.
I'd also like to mention Seerthe6th for his experience in aircraft MX. All you guys are practically the council on great ship reviews. Keep 'em comin'!
It's funny because from the start they said the Constellation was akin to the Millenium Falcon. Now there's the MSR. I wonder how many more ships we'll see wich are inspired by the Falcon... I have to say this makes it very tempting for me to upgrade my Freelancer DUR. The Dur might have more fuel capacity and "specialized long-range scanners"... but the MSR beats it in every other field; more cargo capacity, better firepower, can actually hold a vehicle easily, it's faster and more maneuverable. Then there's also the datarunning AND the dedicated scanning seat. And a pet peeve of mine has always been the Freelancer's cockpit view, which the MSR also beats hands down.
Well done! There are already a lot of videos out on the MSR, but you did a great job to make one in your style and that feels unique enough that I enjoyed it from start to finish.
Great video, as always! I can’t wait to hop into a MSR for some sweet multi-crew fun. It’ll be interesting to see what kind of gameplay emerges from the server room and data hauling.
thanks for choosing to not ruin the sneaky surprise. unfortunately many others already have. which is why i will wait for your new ship reviews from now on
Really love your stuff, LAW! I have been waiting for your take on the MSR, and agree with your assessment even though I've had it since the beginning. Faith in CIG rewarded this time.
I mean theoretically if bounty pods ever become a plug and play asset for cargo holds, I don't see a reason why it wouldn't fit in the secret cargo hold which looks like 2 scu high by 3 scu wide. Should be able to "connect" 1 or two pods there eventually lol
This has to be the single most creative use for the smuggling compartment that I've ever heard someone suggest. I really hope that after market cyro pods becomes a thing so that we can make it happen!
Hopefully things are customizable. Like that chess board, the fish tanks and pool tanks in other ships should all have at least three other options. Tactical, recreational, industrial options for each section.
Had this come up in a conversation recently, that the smuggling compartments could be used to transport people with crimestats. This would allow smuggling people onto most lawful stations for gear and supplies so they don't need to run to Hex, and maybe even directly onto Security stations for for easy clearing of crimestats.
Class act on this channel! You always cover the full spectrum of any of your topics without rushing things. Very professional! You've earned a subscriber for life.
Outstanding review! I've been waiting for your look at this ship. I bought it when it was concept and now it's nearly here. Awesome! Like to become my go-to ship. :) Thank you.
Great video buddy. I had to check out the ship for myself before anything got spoiled and wow!! I really like this ship. It’s really just a perfect sized ship for really small orgs.
Just subscribed with the Perseus vs Polaris vid. Your vids are so descriptive and enjoyable. I wish I was able to participate in the gameplay... but these vids will haveto do in the meantime.
I got to admit, they really impressed me with this one. The original design wasn't on my radar at all but got to say I absolutely love the ship as it is now. It might even been a damn cool solo ship once they have blade to control the turret implemented. It would be even cooler if you could lock the turrets to forward since they appear to have full unobstructed fire arcs and put them all under pilot control. One can hope.
I was sold on this ship back at Concept when they said secret compartment. Man I'm just dreaming of the possible role play with this ship. So glad I bought mine back then.
My org recently did an event where we took turns boarding and defending a Caterpillar to train for future FPS stuff and it was a ton of fun! I wanted to reccomend my MSR but we had a few too many people. 5v5 on an MSR is a little cramped😂
As someone that hates A-symmetric designs with a passion, I am pleasantly surprised how much I love this design, inside and out! I love the color-scheme and the textures / materials. Layout is nice, and of course, its the closest we will get to a Millennium Falcon. I love that you can put a rover in the cargo bay. If I did not already have a 890 and a 600, I might have gone for this ship instead. (600i does not even have a hangar)
Sweet vid Law! If only our ships had in-game music (GTA style) like your video. It was a really nice touch. Great work on this one. I’m looking forward to any potential MSR comparison videos. You will have to be careful though, there seem to be a lot of very sensitive Connie drivers out there.
Has the best maneuvering and speed of medium ships, best cargo in medium category other than hull, scan proof smuggling, unlocks second prof in inforunning, scanner the same size as explorers in its size, liveable quarters for npcs, better space for vehicles than cutlass. Its a op ship.
I am really taken by the MSR, especially in this class of ships the design of the cargo hold is ideal for vehicle transport, easy access and enough space, compared to the conni where the cargo area is too narrow and more in height which reduces the flexibility on non-stackable items. Great job Law
VERY late to the party on this video but can't WAIT for computers/NPCs to be buyable/hirable so I as a solo can buy this. A guy picked me up when crap hit the fan and I lost my ship in this thing. I had a quick look around and it was amazing looking. Loved the interior and the functional look of it all.
I got interested in this ship after briefly being aboard one during XT, but absolutely fell in love with it after touring the display one at the Crusader Showroom on Orison, and was thrilled when it returned to the pledge store for the Jumptown/Ninetails double event. Was well worth it. Her design and layout definitely scream that it was designed as SC's version of a YT-1300(Millennium Falcon). As of 3.16, she feels a little underpowered, at least in shields, with only S2 equipment when her size definitely seems like it should rate S3. Plus, even with the doors held open(which I think is currently bugged) having the rear ramp as the only way in or out of the ship seems like a massive concern when you need to evacuate in a hurry, especially from the cockpit, but I'll put a pin in holding that as a flaw until either escape pods are working or they add some sort of alternate ejection or escape system for the cockpit. Also given her vehicle capacity and dedicated sensor station, I wonder if an MSR could be used as a cheaper alternative to the Aquila and a more comfortable upgrade to the Dur in use as an explorer?
Loads of good MSR vids circulating right now, but my favs so far: This one for the information and chillness Mr Teca's great flight vid Morphs architect vid Subliminals review ^^
This is on my wishlist. This will be great for transporting things to and from the surface and a Kraken, its fast, has great cargo capacity, and can double as a nice (enough) VIP shuttle while also being able to participate in fleet defense and aerospace combat operations, landing operations with ground vehicles, etc. On top of that, it's great for smuggling and Data transport. I'd love to see some stealth modules included for clandestine drops and maybe some sort of modularity for the smuggling tunnels, so PC's don't automatically know where to look if you get boarded.
@@fixo5132 No better or worse as ships in general due to different focuses but obviously each has their specific strengths and weaknesses. I will take the clean finish of a Crusader ship over the minimalist approach of Drake a a matter of course myself though. 😃
Also, it handle like a dream, punching above its class in terms of speed and turning rate. Hands down, my favorite ship. It's practically, mini-Carrack. The only thing I could wish for would be for a hydrogen intake system for prolonged exploration.
The conny and msc are going to be the same rival duo for the large ships multi-purpose category to the cutty black and freelancer duo for the middlesized
I had MSR fever pretty bad, and still really love the ship. However, as I was getting ready to add it to my fleet, I realized it didn't really fit into my current career path in the 'verse. So this IAE (my first with CIG) I'm definitely going for the Nomad refinery and CCUs for the Hercules C2 and the Drake Corsair. I may add the MSR at sometime, but not this time through.
The 3D radar... Once again a bunch of lines floating in space that you can only see if there's *not* something bright behind it. I don't think anyone in reality would build an important piece of equipment that way. It should be in a little bubble that stops outside light from obscuring it.
I own the MSR and didn't know about the hidden key pad in the engineer room at 10:57. I could not figure out how to open that passage door until this video lol.
Great review! This is way more usefull and well laid out than i though it would be. I miss the old engine layout tho... Looks a litte chubby now in comparison
I have a Taurus. But, I plan to buy this ship in the pledge store as I like the gameplay opportunities that my Taurus doesn't offer. I like using my Taurus to transport my ROC-DS around. But, it can be somewhat tricky to get my Taurus into some areas. I like the fact that this ship is more maneuverable. I'm hoping planetary landings will be easier when I need to use my ground vehicles for mining.
What is the song at the end!?!? Heard it before somewhere. Love the format of a simple breakdown in the begining then a continuous walkthrough at the end to let us just get a feel for it
man, this is my absolute FAVORITE ship in game...currently...i keep checking the pledge store to see when i can actually purchase one, i dont know what ti is about her but aside from a carrick, nothing else does it for me like the msr
The ship looks more complete and polished than anything else to date, but there is some balancing (like for Hydrogen fuel consumption) that needs to be done...hopefully before introduction to the PU.
Great video man. Would have like a better space use of the radar room and the Hab&Rec quarters though. Have to ask : what’s the name of that song you used at the end when you toured around the ship ?
Rented one earlier. It really chugs fuel but it is so, so fun to fly. I don’t love how much the turrets stick out, and I *kind of* wish there was an elevator forward for trading depot ingress/egress. But otherwise I love it.
Great vid. I don't like the ship, but the cargo bay is great. I would love to hear these extra uses you have for the 'secret' tunnels, because I would love to be proven wrong that everybody is just fooling themselves into thinking that these tunnels will do anything for them. They're not secret. They do not appear to be ..actually.. useful. It's too soon to tell what being boarded will be like.
It's a strong multi-roll ship, much better than I anticipated. It still basically needs a crew to be a combatively viable with its loadout, which is underwhelming compared to similar size multi-roll ships like the connie and corsair, both of which have most of their weapons firepower in the hands of the pilot and larger missile loadouts (corsair has twice the potential missile capacity, the connie almost 5 times as much). This makes the MSR more like a Carrack. But with its much better speed and agility compared to the connie and larger cargo hold than both other ships, it's competitive in its own way and I really don't think firepower alone will be the only metric by which to value ships in a game with so many different gameplay loops. EDIT: Plus it looks way cooler than the Connie IMO. And the interior has a much better layout.
Looks like a very nice ship. I imagine the asking price has gone up with all the features put in, but I'm debating a CCU based on seeing this. I imagine there will be much complaining soon about how the tunnels are "wasted space" or "an FPS map" by people who want a ship to be a free camera with guns and unlimited cargo capacity; still, I like them (and they definitely look like a nice way to get around blocked doors!)
To be fair...the Starfarer is literally just a flying FPS map, lol. And every teaser of the Idris it looks the same way. A lot of those early ships need a major interior rework.
