The latest patch exhibits higher RAM usage, which I suspect may be linked to the fix that improved (or increase) content caching to mitigate traversal hitching (according to the patch note).

Thanks for the constant updates on this game. Feels like a lotta ppl myself included want to play it but just won’t until it’s reasonable to play which in my opinion it’s not still. Thinking they’ll never patch the stutters cause EA never did with dead space remake. As for the fps being bad Idk if they’ll fix that either, but we’ll see.

With Update 4 I had areas with avg AVP around 20 (!) und on the same planet in a different area 120... Its just ridiculous! (5800X3D, 4070Ti) This is a bit better... But still...

I have an RTX 2060 super and a 4K monitor, I am playing the game at 1080p with medium settings and have been enjoying it. Video game graphics are at the point of diminishing returns, even at 1080p medium it still looks amazing and more importantly I’m enjoying the game thoroughly. It sucks that respawn poorly optimized this game but the game still looks great at modest settings and I encourage you to still give it a try if you can and look past the numbers and pixels, just my 2 cents. I understand boycotting if that’s what you want to do.

@@windymun If you really want a butter smooth experience I would wait a bit longer. For me it stutters in certain areas and I see frame drops, I can tolerate it but you might want a smoother experience.

With patch 5 it seems like the game soon is ready for its "real 1.0" release, maybe I could buy and play after 5-6 more performance patches without getting frustrated by the stutters. Then again, Fallen Order still has issues with stutters to this day, so this game may be another game I'll play in 10 years or so when I can just brute force it.

Fallen Order is always going to stutter when loading assets. It's part of the UE4 garbage engine. Same with this game. It's never going to be fixed.

[1m41s in the video] Please note that if the game's overall CPU usage is below 50% on a hyperthreaded CPU (such as Ryzen 5 5600X: 2 threads per core, 6 cores, 12 threads) then seeing approximately half of the CPU threads *underutilized* and approximately half of the CPU threads *overutilized* can be the correct behavior from computer science viewpoint. CPU0 and CPU6 [at least in Linux] are both located on CORE0: thus in case CPU0 usage is 75% and CPU6 usage is 25% then it implies that CORE0 utilization might be 100% - which can be the best way of getting the most performance out of a hyperthreaded CPU in a game that is designed to run well on CPUs with 6 or more cores. (Hyperthreading can be disabled at any time without a reboot in the OS, at least in Linux.)

I have tried disabling hyperthreading on Windows 11 (using the AMD cpu and a restart) as well as a myriad other settings, and I saw no improvement in performance whatsoever (or decrease). Just saying.

In windows, it goes core0-core1, core2-core3, etc. for hyperthreading. Your efficiency cores if you have them will be your last cores.

Respawn killed this game but EA more than likely made them release it not polished. Let's be honest it runs like a dream compared to the release date game. Traversal stutter seems to be a big limitation of this engine and something no Devs have overcome to date that I'm aware of

Yes , Traversal Stutter is a chronic issue of UE4 , they can only reduce it and make it less frequent but eliminating this problem 100% is almost impossible. this engine was not designed to handle large-scale games like this one.

@@benchmarking4386 they only just put things inplace in ue5 in 5.1 and 5.2, this is what to expect when using someone else's engine, if you run into issues you gotta rely on epic to fix it, took them 10 years to start fixing issues from ue4, plus any mitigations they put in place can easily fuck your game up, its why most big dev studios use in house engines, if they run into issues they can fix it or fix it enough in a timely manner so they can work around it, another insane thing is people asking the likes of bethesda to use ue5 with all these issues plus the limitations of the engine, the majority of unreal engine worlds while they look good its currently not able to have such an interactive world on the likes of fallout when you have a shit ton of dynamic objects to interact with and thats just one limitation, people are getting caught up in the hype of pretty graphics shown in eu5 graphic demos that are nowhere near to a real game.

Your graphics card handles the game way better than my RTX 3080. If I play this game (and only this game) my pc usually crashes into a black screen after a while. I assume it's the GPU turning itself off due to the heat is generates while playing the game. I haven't seen anything critical yet but it usually is at around 84° when I checked. If I'm not mistaken it gets critical once the GPU reaches 90°. In comparison: Battlefield 2042 runs on the ultra settings in 1440p perfectly fine with the GPU only heating up to 63-71°. I had 3 of these crashes into a black screen (with the immediate screen notification that no HDMI hardware is detected, PC was still on though). Now I don't dare booting up this game anymore until they fix it. I have heard a lot of stories about the Geforce 30XX series crashing into black screens and simply being defective after that :(

For this one not yet , the game still has CPU and GPU performance issues and even with low settings the performance will not be great. As for the last of us, currently there is no need for another optimization guide , I've already covered all new settings they added with the new patches and perhaps I'll make another video in the future when they finish patching and updating the game.

Man i really want to play this game but all these issues are putting me off. I remember Fallen Order had its issues and EA/Respawn barely addressed them, but not gonna lie I stilled enjoyed the game. At this point I’m stuck between on wait til it goes on sale (like wait until it’s $50 or lower) OR should I just wait until Respawn releases “THAT ONE PATCH” that hopefully fixes the game….

I've given up...Kaboh is still a mess. I am using a 4080, I7, 32 RAM and a super fast SSD and the stutters in this area are shocking. A combo of shader and CPU cores not being used which then sits my GPU at around 70 instead of high 90s. I can't be arsed with this game anymore as I don't have the time. A shame as it's a good game but needed at least 4 more months in development. The hitching is so bad at times, even with nothing happening on screen.. PS. AMD sponsored titles are always a problem for Nvidia owners. No DLSS, no Frame Gen...these could help.
