Star Wars Rebels - Season 2 Review 

I am glad Vader only had limited screen time to be honest. When it comes to Vader, less is more. If he was there too often constantly failing to get the crew, it would really diminish his threatening presence. When Vader shows up, you know shit just got real. So if Thrawn is similar, I am ok with that

I wish Netflix made a Knights of the Old Republic series based on Revan

Review Star Wars THE CLONE WARS

My only gripe with Rebels is that, unlike Clone Wars, they don't have story arcs and tend to have each story in a single episode, which results in some rushed developments and resolutions. Prime example is the episode with Hera's father. Way too fast.

Hey Jeremy, have you ever watched Avatar: The Last Airbender? And no I DO NOT mean the atrocity of a film directed by M. Night. If you haven't I strongly suggest you you do. It is the best animated show I have ever seen. It's action, choreography, characters, plot lines, animation, and mythology is some of the best I have seen in any show. Regardless if it is family, animation, or live action. It is fun, and deep, and clever, and incredibly well constructed. I would highly recommend it to anyone, especially if you like Star Wars; Clone Wars or Rebels.

Asohka leaving was the most heartwrenching thing I have seen in an animated show in a while.

Rebels is 100% a binge show. Those "filler" episodes always feel like filler when isolated but they do proved context down the line.

Just came here to leave a like and then left because I don't watch star wars.

I didn't really plug in with Rebels season 1, but season 2 really got me into the groove. I'm now attached to this crew of characters! But yeah, it's a binge thing...like so many things I'm just not built for week-to-week waits anymore. I also wish I had a Chopper in my back pocket for certain life situations.

The finale made me hyped for Dad Vader in Rogue Juan.

If you ever do another review for an animated show, can you review BoJack Horseman?

I think "more Darth Vader" is a "Be careful what you wish for" scenario. The show can't kill off any of the main characters (yet) so involving Darth Vader would mean he would have to fail to kill them every time, which would diminish his menace.

You should review all or at least some of the Halloween movies in October or something. Just an idea.

I really hope the show doesn't hold back on killing its characters. We all know Ahsoka has to die eventually.

Does anyone know why the hell Batman v Superman Ultimate Edition was rated R? It seems like how The Killing Joke was rated R. It makes no sense. If a movie is going to be rated R then it better have some nudity, heavy cursing, or insane violence. All of which are missing in B v S Ultimate. They made it rated R simply to increase sales. Its bullshit and it should be called out for being bullshit.

Ashoka was very much Anakin's child, especially factoring Padmé as her "Mother" and Plo Koon as the "uncle". Her leaving the Order was like a teenager failing High School, Ashoka wants to come back at first but realises that she can't just go back without things feeling out of place. Anakin supports her and tries to bail her out, Padmé doesn't buy the injustice but trusts Ashoka to find her feet. When Anakin's "ghost" confronts her, it's a father who feels betrayed. Makes his "death threat" to her at the climax very disturbing.

"They are hanging out with space whales, why are they doing that?!" Well, I'm assuming you watched the series finale so now you know. :D

When ahsoka and vader fought..and she cuts the side of his helmet.. The feels man THE FUCKING FEELS. Grew up with the clone wars yes I'm still barely 18 but I've watched clone wars since it launched 2008.. 8 years later the cartoon managed to get me on the feels... When i heard clone wars anakin voice.. (Love star wars, lotr, mad max, and marvel/dc movies but so far a cartoon is only one to bring me to that level of feels)

The way they've handled Thrawn in season 3 is a good mix of the Inquisitor in season 1 and Vader in season 2. He's in basically every episode like the Inquisitor was, but a lot of time in small intervals, like Vader. That being said, season 3 also had Maul, so he was given a lot of the villain spotlight, and you also had Pryce and Kallus (for the most part).

I like Rebels but it just doesn't hit home for me the same way the Clown Wars did.

Look, no offence but I've seen Clone wars and trust me, compared to how at least the first two season of that show went Rebels is great. I mean, in Clone wars they don't even have the episodes in the logical order. Prequels and sequels and midquels and flash backs and flash forwards are all OK, but Clone wars season one, that's basically Firefly but with the episodes out of order intentionally.

I'm actua;lly glad they used Darth Vader sparingly in Rebels. If he kept showing up again and again being beaten his appearences would lose their impact. As it stands now, every time I see him and hear James Earl Jones booming voice I get the friggin chills!

i think the best episode, to me, is The Legends of the Lasat. not only do we get more backstory on Zeb ( who is clearly the best character), but that scene and the score at the very end is just beautiful.

I too saw the Vader vs Ahsoka scene on RU-vid and that peaked my interest. I looked into it, saw Rex, saw your review and considered looking into it, but I was hesitant because I knew it wasn't half as good as the Clone Wars. Then I found an episode with Hondo in it and the Blurays were at the door the next morning.

Any chance of ever getting a review for the other seasons of Rebels? I just finished season two, loved it and am about to start season three.

I don't think you can call episodes about the Rebels filler, when the show is literally called Rebels and not "the ahsoka and vader show."

All right I am just watching rebels for the first time and I am waiting for you to do season three and four let’s go Jeremy!!

Easily the best moment in Season 2 of Rebels for me was when Ahsoka was fighting Vader and she managed to cut off part of his mask when he was distracted by Ezra. One, that moments was awesome and two, hearing both Vader and Anakin speak at the same time was spine chilling and gives me insane goosebumps. Plus the look on Ahsoka's face when she heard Anakin instead of his distorted Vader voice. So awesome.

Ahsoka and Anakin reunited after she left the temple a couple of times. The last time was just before ep. 3. Soo it shouldn't have damaged him too much. He just lost his faith in the Jedi.

I kinda feel like Rex is fan service, he hasn't really done anything.

I agree this season was way better then season 1 but that's not really saying much but hey that's just my opinion

I like the idea you have there with Ashoka being more important than Panda Bear ever was, yeah that would add some layers there make it more interesting and a little more tragic.

My only issue with the second season is how much of a joke the Inquisitors have become. They're supposed to be these big baddies but they can't even stop a handful of rebels.

Now you gotta do season 3 Jeremy! You must have been pleased to see thrawn used more than vader was in this season!

I completely agree with all the things you said here. Correct me if I'm wrong. But I believe the creators purposefully minimized darth Vader and Ahsoka appearances because they didn't want to take away focus from the crew. And having these two on the forefront would have meant that the crew would be overshadowed. But in truth... I just don't like the crew as I like Ahsoka or darth Vader. I hope that the more mature ezra in season 3 will change that though! Good review man! You're great!

Hey Jeremy, would you ever consider taking a look at the 2003 Star Wars Clone Wars miniseries? It's just over an hour long in total, it's animated by the guy who did Samurai Jack, and it's a glimpse into what it would have been like if the prequels were good.

Where are seasons 3&4?

I agree that it's much better as a binge show. Clone Wars was like that as well. it can still be enjoyed individually but the extended viewing really makes you care about the story. I'm surprised there was no mention of Leia or Lando's guest appearances or the episodes that helped set up some of the rebel hallmarks.

Anyone else hate when people label character development episodes as filler?

Hey Jeremy, when you got time please review Bojack Horseman. It's literally my favorite animated show right now, but unfortunatelly it flew under alot of people's radars. I think your review would put it on the map for alot of your subscribers. Plus I think you'll really like the show, it's AMAZING!

+Jeremy Jahns you missed the whole point of Vader. They specifically limited his screentime because he's too powerful for the ghost crew. They can't be escaping him the whole season, that goes against his character.

I seriously enjoy watching Star Wars Rebels it's one of my guilty pleasures. I'm literally watching this show at midnight or 6 in the morning.

I didn't get to watch every episode in its entirety, but the ones I did watch were really great. You can bet I was watching the Ahsoka and Vader showdown in the finale. Ahsoka was in my top five favorite characters from TCW. The others mostly being the clones. I was very emotional when she was reunited with Rex in Rebels. Then when she felt Vader's presence and started to realize who it was, my heart was pounding. Everything they went through together when he was Anakin. They definitely had a stronger connection than him and Padme. Kind of unfortunate that it worked out that way. TCW doesn't portray their marriage as very healthy either. The duel at the end of Rebels between former master and former jedi/apprentice was fantastic! When she broke his mask and you could hear Anakin's voice had me breathless. It was great and terrifying! Really hope they come out with something that focuses mainly on Ahsoka someday soon. Leaving her fate up in the air is very, very frustrating!

I think you maybe missed it a little bit by not seeing Filoni's comments on the show. They purposefully only wanted Vader and Ahsoka in a couple episodes since they would have been too powerful to deal with, they would distract focus from the crew of the Ghost. The main highlights of the season were the first and last, sure, but things like Kanan in the temple, the B wing, the Mandalorian world and more were all essential pieces of character development for each member of the crew. The show is Firefly light more than it is A New Hope light. If you watch it with that in mind, the filler becomes much more meaty and substantive.

Here was Dave Filoni's reasoning for why you didn't see Vader a lot in the season, which I tend to agree with. You don't want the Rebels constantly eluding/escaping Vader, otherwise Vader wouldn't be threatening. Doing so would diminish the character and he needs to make you worry for the Rebels when he appears.
