I am disliking because you don't have your Star Wars cape on (no hard feelings still love you man). C'mon Jeremy! Remember! "STAR WARS! NOTHING BUT STARRR WARRRRS!!" -Jeremy Jahns
Just picked up Season 2 myself and I really liked Season 1 a lot. I think you're spot on about the last 3 episodes. That's when my eyes peeled open for the show. The thing that bothers me the most is the animation. The animators seem like they have to make the character move with every word that comes out of their mouths. Super annoying.
ShartimusPrime yeah, I’ve definitely noticed that too with a lot of modern animated show. It’s as if they don’t want to animate facial expressions too much so they make them emote.
Red Whovian Yeah I sometimes just feel like they rush everything like clone wars had 3 to 4 episodes long story arcs and Rebels keeps trying to finish one story in 1 episode
Gabriel Atom Well I liked the first Season, and Season 2 was meh. Then it was great pretty much the rest of the way through, besides like half of Season 5.
AngryNerds100 Um, Season 5 is known to be one of the best Star Wars-related things ever. Besides for now it's fair to compare the Rebels Seasons 1 and 2 to Seasons 1 and 2 of TCW. Imo, seasons 1 of both are a tie. But the Season 2 of Rebels is 100x better than TCW beginning 2 seasons.
Gabriel Atom I haven't seen Season 2. I saw a few Episodes of Season 1 and I really wasn't too fond of it. I did see the Season 2 finale, but I even hated that because they brought back Darth Maul for like the 50th time. Yes, I think it was kind've deserved in The Clone Wars since his character really wasn't that fleshed out, but in here it just feels really forced, and that I can say about a lot of the fan service in this too. Fan service isn't really a bad thing, but doing something like bringing back Maul was really unnecessary, and making a lot of Inquisitors made the first one's death less impactful. Again, I haven't watched much of Season 1, and it might be the greatest show ever afterwards, but from what I've seen it really isn't as gritty as The Clone Wars, something I give that show a lot of credit for. I will admit, the animation is a lot better than The Clone Wars, but that's only really because of the artstyle. When the Clone Wars did things like large scale Space Battles, the show looked really good. That's another thing I think Clone Wars did better, it's scope. I'm just rambling at this point though.
***** Each show develops and becomes better as the seasons go. TCW became better in Season 3. Rebels became better in Season 2. It is unfair to compare. It's like comparing Stranger Things to Game of Thrones.
who else thinks jeremy should watch more animated tv shows like Rick and Morty Over The Garden Wall Gravity Falls Steven Universe, and maybe even Adventure time
i do kind of agree but still Adventure time has fun characters and in some videos loses its childish nature and becomes more adult. and plus in some episodes it has a plot which can leave to emotional character moments
idk how many seasons people think they could have made out of clone wars xD it had to end some where, and rebels is pretty good. Getting better and better just like clone wars did.
The writers of clone wars pushed it one season and 5 episodes too far (although the bad batch episodes could have taken place before the season finale). Ahsoka leaving the order was the perfect place to end the show.
Stranger Things only has eight episodes, Jeremy. You could binge it in one day, if you haven't done so already. Totally worth it. I think we really want to hear your thoughts on it, because your awesome.
+Jeremy Jahns Star Wars Rebels season 2 comes out tomorrow and season 3 premeirs Sept. 24. Season 2 is definitly darker than season 1 and season 3 will be darker than season 2. Also you probably will not want to skip episodes in season 2 as alot of season 3 will bring back people/things from season 1 and 2. There is a 6 month time skip between season 2 and 3.
Umbara had some serious shit going down, of that there is no doubt. But even as far back as Season 1, we started seeing what could be done with animation, like when Cut-up was _eaten alive_ by a giant eel, or Ventress killing the traitor guard by stabbing him in the back, or just when Ahsoka led the majority of her squadron to their deaths and we actually heard them screaming as they blew up or burned alive.
You know, I had totally forgotten about Umbara. I really need to watch that again. Such good storytelling, especially for a "kids show". That and the arc where Maul more or less takes over mandalore.
I'm really not sure how I feel about this guy saying you can afford to skip episodes. You can do that with TCW, but this show seems to create plot points out of minor things that happened several episodes ago. **IE:** If you skip the episodes *Idiot's Array* in Season 1 you completely miss Lando's introduction and you don't understand why Lando even would be in the episode in Season 2 "Siege of Lothal" helping the Ghost Crew and why the crew of the Ghost goes to his farm to get those transponders. Similar to how in Season 2 if you skip the Hondo episodes that seem filler at the time, actually ends up being the sole reason "SEASON 3 SPOILERS" - (The Rebels get The Y-Wings for the Rebellion in the Season 3 premiere) So while you would see the results you would totally miss why Hondo even has any sort of relationship with the Rebellion and why Hondo doesn't care for the Empire. This guy is a tad bit out of the loop that Rebels has an entirely different rating system than TCW. Bottom line is you cannot afford to skip episodes of this show like TCW because there is a good chance they will be relevant later. I'm sure even that random space whale episode in Season 2 will have something to do with a future storyline. So i'll give you the benefit of the doubt because you not have seen Season 2 or the premiere of Season 3 which they showed at Celebration, but it's useful to keep in mind about when you watch this show.
I think my impression of Season 1 of Rebels was higher because I was watching it with my (then) 6 year old son. That sense of wonder is infectious, and the look on his face at the big reveal at the end of the last episode was amazing. But the kid was stock still for all of "Spark of Rebellion"; he was blown away, and he loved Clone Wars.
This is a very timely video Jeremy! I recently got a temporary assignment to China for work duties, and even with VPN - access to western internet is still kinda limited :/ - so I decided to save up on all the shows and movies I missed and bring them here - that link to the Star Wars clone wars chart will be very helpful.
colebowlin68 last 3 episodes were the worst, Vader should kill them all, he's literally killed millions of trained jedi but this d-team is special for some reason (it's really dumb)
+Aseril Your also giving him attention and you are obviously mad with that first comment so it will make him want to do it more. I agree with him actually, people who get so upset over a comment are losers
Pretty much agreed with all of your assessments. Just have to say, you won't be disappointed with season 2. There are some filler episodes, but the grit and badassery you saw in S1 will be built upon in S2. Plus, it ties in even more with Clone Wars, so good thing you watched that. If anyone is jonesing for something Star Wars and haven't caught Clone Wars yet, definitely check it out, it's definitely worth it and is considered canon.
I loved this show when it came out, mainly because I liked Star Wars and it made for some light, firefly-esque watching. Season 2 gave me everything I loved about season 1 plus a good helping of grit which made me love it even more. Season 3 is set to deliver even more grit! Can't wait!
Wait till The Siege Of Lothal, which starts season 2. It's incredible, along with the whole second season. It's a much better season overall, and it will have you hooked.
I think you pretty mich nailed this review man. I feel like rebels fails in a sense that every episode is just a stand alone where clone wars they were all 3 part arcs. Its easier to lose intrest.
Funny thing, I never could get into Clone Wars, but I love Rebels a lot. And I don't know if I think to much of it, but I have the feeling the show is going a certain way for a certain character which we might see at the end of season 3.
favorite line in the series "you just made a BIG mistake..." "why? because now you have no one to die for you?" "no.....because now I have nothing left to fear!"
Yay I completely agree with literally everything you said the comparison between rebels and clone wars is exactly what I say but I still feel clone wars is better even after two seasons of rebels to me clone wars was really good and they had the guts as you said to give that death depth hopefully rebels can up its game
I believe showing violence was more prominent on Clone Wars because it was on cartoon network (i think). I remember Clone Wars being cancelled because Disney had just bought Lucasfilms and Disney didn't want to do any more episodes. They flat out cancelled production. Then Netflix brought us the "lost missions" episodes for season 6 to wrap it up. I think that's probably why Clone Wars could take more liberties in showing on-screen violence, as they weren't owed by Disney at that point in time.
The Clone Wars was able to show more violent scenes due to the fact that the franchise wasn't bought by Disney yet, and Cartoon Network allowed the show to have a TV-PG rating as opposed to its other programs. When Disney ended TCW for Rebels, their policies are slightly more strict and toned it down for a much wider demographic. Was it for the better? I personally don't think so, for the same reasons why Jeremy argues that it should still take the risk and write those scenes in if its predecessor could do it.
I don't care if you review Stranger Things, but you should know Greg Weisman, the writer of Star Wars Rebels, also wrote SPECTACULAR SPIDERMAN, and Young Justice. You so claim to be a fan of Spiderman, you must review Spectacular Spiderman.
Clone Wars Catch Up Season 6 - Order 66 & Yoda Arc - Stand Out - Hon Mention - Jar Jar Surprisingly Doesn't Suck Unproduced Episodes - Utapau Arc - unfinished story reel showing the friendship between Anakin and Obi-Wan while they are on a fun light adventure; good contrast to rest of the series; also see Anakin dealing with Ashoka's absence - Bad Batch - Rex lead's a highly experimental and unorthodox group of Clones known as the Bad Batch; they are on a mission to rescue Echo to win the Battle of Anaxes; mix of Saving Private Ryan and the Dirty Dozen; unfinished story reel available on Star Wars; just youtube it - Son of Dathomir - four issue comic series that explains what happened to Darth Maul after Season 5 - Dark Disciple - novel based off of the remaining Clone Wars episodes featuring Assajj Ventress; a must for Clone Wars fans; first half is one of the best arcs ever written for the show Afterwards watch the Untold Clone Wars Panel from Celebration 2015 and the Ashoka's Untold Stories Panel from Celebration 2016. In both Dave Filoni and Pablo Hidalgo discuss what they had planned for Clone Wars, had it not been cancelled. The panels feature sketches, concept art, and unfinished story reels.
clone wars is cartoon network rebels is disney CN are much more easy going with everything Disney is very child friendly (for the most part) thats why CW is alot more "stab" "shoot" "actual graphic violence" thats the reason i deduced : P
Honestly, as someone who loves clone wars, this show sucks big time. I get bored while watching it and just have to turn an episode off to some back to it later. So far, I’m mid season 3 and things haven’t gotten better since the beginning. I only like the show when Ahsoka or Maul are on screen or if Kanan is doing something weird. Ezra is the worst character and I hate rooting for him
I was interested in Rebels when it first launched but, like you, was put off by the not very good first few episodes. A while later I saw they brought back Ahsoka, Rex, and Maul and saw a really cool Ahsoka vs Vader fight on RU-vid and thought it might be worth checking out but I'd have to think about it. Then I stumbled upon an episode on TV with Hondo in it and I swear I don't think I've ever ordered a set of DvDs so quickly.
I'm not a fan of Rebels, because it just doesn't feel like Star Wars to me (and I don't find it to be very entertaining.) Disney definitely wanted to give Rebels a lighter and more friendly approach. Also, idk if it's just me, but for some reason Ezra reminds me of Sid the Science Kid XD
Actually to be completely fair, you CAN compare the last seasons of clone wars to the first season of rebels. Both shows were made by the same people, so they had all of clone wars to get grooving. And then they took 5 steps backwards with rebels.
Clone Wars is far superior to Rebels in every conceivable way. And sadly, simply being owned by Disney practically guarantees that Rebels will never have the balls to get as dark or as serious as Clone Wars.
Ok enough is enough, im pretty sure he has heard about stranger things a thousand times by now, so what is it? why wont you review stranger fucking things already?!?
I generally feel this show gets a lot of unfair bashing. While I ultimately prefer Clone Wars, mainly because it redeemed a lot of the shitty garbage elements of the Prequel Trilogy. But I still feel this can still grow on to be a pretty damn good Star Wars show. I personally think the season 2 finale of Rebels is much better then the season 2 finale of Clone Wars. I wasn't really a big fan of the whole kid Boba trying to kill Windu arc honestly. People seem to forget that Clone Wars didn't exactly start off very smoothly. The movie was pretty much hated by near everyone and it's first two seasons while good didn't really win much people over. It wasn't until it's 3rd season and on that people started to take interest.
The only Clone Wars guide worth mentioning is that which shows the chronological order. The commonly circulated "must watch" Clone Wars guide leaves out quite a few fantastic episodes.
The guide Jeremy recommended wasn't good tbh. Like 90% of the episodes are skipped which is 80% of the relevant character development in the series. I have tried to think of episodes to skip, and apart from a couple of Jar Jar and Droids episodes, there's really nothing irrelevant. Something that's introduced in a seemingly filler arc culminates and become relevant in the later arc. Asajj Ventress's side story episodes in S4 are prime examples; it had nothing to do with what's going on in that season, but it's relevant for her character and ends some previous story arcs. Grievous's two parter in S2 is seemingly "just another Grievous arc", but is relevant to Rex and Obi-Wan's characters. etc.
I personally think season 1 is fun, season 2 and half of 3 is sometimes flawed, but they changed the art and writing style halfway through 3 and everything save a couple episodes was gold. Just start there and you'll get Ventress, Maul and General Krell who are single handedly better than the prequels.
I don’t care for rebels but Netflix doesn’t have any movies just rebels season onwards So I’m watching this and then getting to watch season two onwards only for the story idk for the new characters I’m here for Asoka Vader maul and baddies
unfortunately season two follows the same structure. Most episodes are family friendly episodes with no depth, the last episode and a few others are great.
That is basically my opinion of Rebels. It didn't have the clone wars grit. HOWEVER I accept it because it is a different time, clone wars had more action because it is a *War* this pre-galactic civil war conflicts are skirmishes, not major big-scale battles. The other thing rebels lacks is story arcs. A really good episode from season 2 (honorable ones) was my favorite, but it would have been 2 or 3 episodes if made like CW.
I tried this series back in S1. Shit show. Too kid friendly. Too goofy characters. Everybody has hair colors that have no business existing. But Clone Wars was the same in S1, so I'm betting it'l grow up with its viewers.
Rebels is an excellent show. Season 1 was kid friendly, but Season 2 really stepped up its game from everything to the characters to the storylines to the action. Calling it a shit show is just flat out idiotic
Brad Wright Considering that I had to essentially force myself to watch it to the end of episode two, I can say with certainty that the show was shit. Cliche characters, heavy-handed comedic relief. The show was not doing justice to the Clone Wars before it.
Never heard of hair dye huh? It's odd to think that in a galaxy far far away where they have lazer swords and travel from star system to star system that you think hair dye shouldn't exist.
Clone wars was about the war and how it affects those involved with it. Rebels in my opinion as a theme is how individuals affected by the Empire come together as a family.
Without spoiling it too much S2 is pretty much the same. You can watch the Premire, watch 1 episode called Shroud of Darkness then skip to the finale. The rest is pure filler. Oh and that Character who appears at the end of S1 is barely in in S2, she pops in and out but nothing that couldn't be cut out until the finale.
