This Starcraft 2 Wings of Liberty video walkthrough demonstrates a way to complete "The Great Train Robbery" on Brutal mode with limited technology or advancements.
There are a few tricks to beating this mission:
First, be sure to scout out around the map and pick up all the resource packs and free Diamondbacks as shown in the video.
Second, make sure you do not lose any of these Diamondbacks and consistently train new ones. You will need a big Diamondback fleet to catch the later trains.
Third, early on you will want to build a bunch of bunkers and slowly fill them with Marines and Marauders at the top track. These bunkers will help defeat the roving Marauder packs which 1) need to be killed in order to unlock the "Bullying the Bullies" achievement and 2) would otherwise destroy your Diamondbacks. The Bunkers of course also help damage down trains but their real function is to take out one of the roving Marauder packs.
Here are the achievements you can unlock:
Bully the Bullies - Kill the Marauder Kill Team in "The Great Train Robbery" mission on Normal (or higher) difficulty. As you can see from the video above, the easiest way to do this is to set up a condensed area of bunkers on either side of the track. When the Marauders spawn, they will eventually path into the bunkers, at which point you can converge all your units on the area to take the first pack down with minimal losses. You can brute-force the second pack down at the end of the game once you get a large enough cluster of units.
Silver Streak - Complete "The Great Train Robbery" mission without letting a Train pass by on Hard difficulty (or higher). This is shown in the video above. If you cannot do it on Brutal, try it on hard. The trick is to have at least 12 Diamondbacks by the last 3 trains and to take out both Marauder packs with minimal losses. Remember Diamondbacks can shoot while moving so you can keep pace with the fast trains.
