Starcraft 1 was much better at setting the tone of what you were doing. You were literally fighting alone in space for survival of your race. Failure isn't an option.
I still liked it better when the Overmind was in control of the Zerg. Back then they were awesome overwhelming, flesh-tearing world eaters. Now they are just misunderstood creatures that are made out to be the whipping mule of the galaxy. Now I have to find a new favorite "great devourer".
The forced societal change and loss of Aiur may have been sad for the protoss, as signified by the Brood War exclusive track, but there's no underestimating how sad it realistically was for the zerg to lose the overmind and go feral which the exclusive track in the first half of this exhibits.
To think this masterpiece came out of the 90s, and was probably one of the first games ever to fully utilize the power of proper industrial music. Seriously this piece reminds me of Skinny Puppy's best work.
Terran demigod, lore enthusiast, writing and film fan: This music... It's like the most on point solo guitarist and bass player and keyboardist just reading all the emotions of every creature, soldier and dark templar AND all of us growing up with StarCraft, correctly and so on point, wailing away on his instrument, alone, in space. Amazing. So UNDERRATED
