so your ship is essentailly a settlement with less features for customizations on the interior of the ship. the exteriour is very detailed, but the inside is limited and has no functionality changes that you can make like the exterior building menu.

I need to look at your vid list but if your motivated to show comparisons. I wouldn’t mind seeing all the habs. I was a little curious if the lader deletes anything. I did find a bug with one of the 2x3 or 3x2 mess halls. Forget which but there was a floating object. I noticed it from a window but even without the window it didn’t match the contents of the shelf either. It was like a floating bed in a Star citizen hanger.

Having actually worked in a shipboard armory in the Navy, the Stroud is actually the most true to form. An actual armory isn't going to have display stands sitting around to show off the gear. In fact the Stroud could only be made more realistic by turning the weapon racks into lockable weapon cabinets, course then you'd think it was really boring. And from an armorers perspective the large open area in the middle with the small but somewhat decent amount of desk space, especially compared to the others, is nice since I'm well aware of how difficult is is to maneuver around some of the larger caliber weapons in a cramped space, and having the space to disassemble, inspect, clean etc. is always welcome, could actually make that desk there a bit larger realistically, more flat space to lay a weapon out on.

It baffles me also that they implemented a brig within the armory. I mean, if you want to avoid anything then it is that the inmate is going to grab a gun right after he overwhelms his guard, or like casually walking outside of the cell. And then in the cell they put like all this stuff an inmate could use to overwhelm his guard. I also dont like that it is so busy in the holding cell. Like lots of places you can hide something.

The real struggle is when you want to bundle rooms together without passageway. The game will just generate doors and ladders at some weird position, making your ship turn in an hell maze. I spent hours this week end just juggling rooms around trying to get a layout where the doors and ladder would make any kind of sens. I just wish we could choose ourselves where the doors and ladders would be for each rooms.
@strangerdanger7448
@strangerdanger7448 11 месяцев назад
You cant do much about doors, but I noticed with ladders, a 1x1 Companionway forces the ladder to prioritise that room. It doesnt with a 1x1 storeroom - thats the difference. So what I do is stack 1x1 compionways at the back of my ship and voila, a huge ladder all the way up and down. You have to make sure all other 1x1s on your ship are storerooms though.

Great video! I think this is definitely one of the things that even some experienced ship-builders don't consciously think about. I expect most of us (me included) just felt like these interiors were somewhat randomized. With that said, I've never made much use of the racks and mannequins. I WOULD if Starfield didn't automatically put all items into cargo every time you update your ship! Since I'm constantly tweaking and playing with my ship designs, all my carefully-placed packs, helmets, suits and weapons are constantly getting tossed into cargo. So, I eventually gave up on using any of it. Maybe one day I'll find a ship I like enough to leave alone. LOL

Thanks for this. I didn't consider this stuff. Considering the wall storage is purely cosmetic, I don't care as much about losing that, but losing weapon racks is something I would not want. And it looks like from the build that the "rear" of the modules is what's important. Some side notes: I found it amusing that you seemed to like Daimos but detest Stroud Eklund. They are the same layout. The only real difference is a large case vs. small case. The rest is lighting and section dividers. Also, while I also like Nova Galactic, mostly for the mannequins (they are the only armory to have them), the helmet stand is in a terrible place on that shelf, causing helmets to clip through the upper shelf. I haven't had any issues with the mannequins. I actually have a couple of armors in their inventory and I select which to equip. The only thing to keep in mind, is that whenever I modify the ship, it gives that warning that everything moves to ship cargo bay. When that happens, the armor in the mannequins vanishes. Over time, the habs repopulate their clutter, but I take out the mannequin armor and weapons off the racks and cases before modifying my ship since I'm scared they won't repopulate. Then I add them back. I have yet to test if they come back with armor I don't care about.

Great vid! Obviously, a lot of time and effort went into this. I cant trust storing things in the mannequins(Nova Tech) as I lost some decent secondary gear. It completely vanished, not just the display appearance, but was removed from the inventory. The caveat here is I did have more than one suit stored on the mannequin. My reasoning was the mass it allows per mannequin is more than a single full suit weighs, so I thought it would be safe. The whole inventory thing has me annoyed though. They allow you to decorate your ship with cool stuff you find but every time you switch ships or modify anything, even if its not involving the area you are modifying, everything is moved back to the cargo. So tip for anyone new, dont bother placing items or even guns in cases until you are 100% finished modding that ship. And even them, as soon as you switch ships you’ll have to redo. I wish they would have taken a point or two from No Mans Sky on ship inventory. Though the outpost linking is far superior to having to travel to each of your bases in NMS. Once you figure out a good design flow of cabling between your extractors, storage and links, its pretty rad to see all the supply ships come in to one outpost and only have to make that one stop to get all your supplies.

A series of videos like this with other habs would be very useful, especially ones that get used a lot like captains quarters (who wouldn't want to know what the best CQ hab is?) - although seeing what you did I think players can follow your methods and just test specific ones they are interested in. Really wish the mass for pieces made more sense with connectors weighing very little. Would make much more sense as all they contribute is being able to specify where the doors go (which is really just fixing an inherent problem with ship building). Thanks for the effort! JW

There is a lot more to this actually. There are some habs where you lose things going up and down. Not to mention a lot of this actually has an effect on where your doors go when connecting habs. So when you cram all of your habs together in a tight box, you end up with this un navigable mess. Well, thats because the game is overwhelmed with connections and trying to take the interiors in account to decide where to put the connections. So if you want better layouts, learn the habs like this and reduce the number of connection points.

My biggest gripe is the fact that I seemingly can't control where a door is spawned when modules are side by side. A straighforward design became a maze by sheer unluck. I assumed that causeway module would have higher priority to have doors, so I could use it as an intersection, but no luck there either.

Yeah deffo, we should beable to set where doors and ladders will be placed, and if you set a door on a wall that can't have one due to intenals then it should error and be red. Pretty simple stuff. And from a developer standpoint it would be alot cheaper on code as it would cut out the auto generation of doors/ladders.

It really feels to me like two completely different teams who never talked to each other did the outpost and ship parts of the game. They are so very similar in concept, yet very different in execution. On the outpost side you build blank modules then add the pieces you need to them, whereas on the ship side you choose between prefab modules with everything in them. The ship building would have been so much if it worked like the outposts. Just build an empty hab module then go inside it and add the stuff you need individually.

Just a Thought. How about a series on building an Outpost. Do it in series of distinct sections. Like, Episode 1 set up the Landing pad and any attachments. Next episode (2) Power & Scanners. Next episode (3) Drilling rigs and storage, and so on. That way folks could watch episode 1 and then go do the piece. And then move to episode 2, 3 , 4 ,5 until we have a nice inter-system outpost. Last episodes could be system to system setup. But sure that the first 5, 6, or 7 are about having a nice simple outpost with just what you need. I have seen some youtube videos build a large complicated outpost intra system's cargo and when video is over, I haven't a clue how it was done.

Hope Tech is Taiyo in dark mode, lol! Been wanting a mini-brig, and had no idea these existed. I don't bother with armories, because I work on my ships enough that everything keeps getting sent back to the cargo hold. My armory is at my home base, not my ship, but a mini brig might be nice instead of my big 2x2 brig.

Went to the dream home and was super happy with how empty it was and when I first created my own ship I was very disappointed that it wasn’t exactly a blank canvas for me to fit what I wanted into it. I have been disappointed with the ships because they aren’t empty and customizable on the interior. As well as the fact there’s no door and ladder manager

i'm a firm believer in if it's an armory it should be for weapons and armor only. taiho and hopetech armories do not appeal to me as the idea of putting your troublemakers in the same hab as your weapons and armor just sounds like a bad idea. i enjoy the Stroud styling as it and deimos both feel the most like armories. i'd like to have seen a door blocking off the area with the weapon racks as if it were a weapons cage or vault instead of just a divider. as for nova, i feel the space isn't utilized as well as it could be. i understand it is a spaceship and space needs to be used efficiently, but it looks more like it's a cargo container instead of an armory.

I get what your saying but I want to see outside and the windows we get suck already. I need a mod with a greenhouse/observation lounge that’s all glass. I know some want that display area on the ship but the boxes and racks are useless. They don’t hold much but also when you switch from exploration to combat or to cargo. It rips everything off and shoves it in the bay. Then you start over every time. So decorate your homes planet-side is my suggestion.

Warning to all: Do NOT put armor on the mannequins and then modify your ship. Your armor WILL disappear, at least mine did. I set the Mantis armor up in a Nova Galactic Armory and when I modified my ship the following day and 'All items were returned to invantory', my Mantis set was gone. So now I am without the Mantis armor in my save unless I NG+. Don't make the same mistake I made. If you REALLY want to display stuff, be diligent to grab it off the display before modifying your ship in the ship builder. I suggest an outpost armory if you wanna display stuff with less risk of loosing items. P.S. Gun Cases seemed to work, I did have my displayed guns returned to the ship inventory. But still risky, it is a Bethesda game after all.

Its also similar when you have any stacked items laying about, such as Ship Parts. I have a stack of 170+ ship parts that I place a table so it wont take up 1,700+ room in cargo. I have like 12 in cargo when needed. When I modded my ship it placed it in cargo alright, but it placed ONE. It saw the stack as one item not 170+. Fortunately I save right before modding.
