She actually passed all of those Roshack test...by lying obviously! They were the answers of a nice *unbrainwashed* person! A normal standard person should say otherwise though, because you're naturally psychotic due to survival ego/id duality on this planet! Survival at all cost, even if it means using a kind of deceitfulness that comes from the DS elites ...higher up officials! Destroy all their food and make them take jabs!
@@Tantalus010 Well, you can establish a baseline person behaviour, and consider questions which result deviations on polygraph as something that might be worth digging into. Not exactly a lie detector, but if person is reacting too much to something - there is probably a reason.
She was a fantastic character and an awesome addition to late SG1. As much as a lot of people bash the final 2 seasons because of the Ori storyline I find Daniel really shines in these last 2 seasons and with Vala being a great addition, I actually look forward to the final 2 seasons when rewatching. Also, Vala's first appearance taking over the Prometheus in Season 8 is one of the best episodes in the entire series. "You're a fruitcake!"
The ori were a great addition to the show as well. If I'd have any complaints, it's general Landry that's pretty much boring and a downgrade compared to Hammond, and that recurring idiot scientist guy that I personally can't stand. He's not a character, he's a stereotype they keep beating like a dead horse.
"If she's anything like her mother, she'll have a pretty good figure too." >Casts Morena Baccarin in the role, making that one hell of an understatement
I'd completely forgotten about Vala's trick with the ring transport and the Jaffa reinforcements. It's absolutely brilliant writing, making use of Vala's personality (rogue archetype) and her history with the Goa'uld, as well as using the ring transporters in a way that's well-established in continuity. I miss when Scifi shows cared about continuity...
I think to me it was reinforced in that episode when that kid in Atlantis got transported somewhere else in the city, he got switched with boxes in the other transporter
@@rcslyman8929 The reason Teal'c didn't think of it is that Teal'c isn't like Vala. He thinks in Jaffa terms, even this late in the series; probably thinking about how to ambush the Jaffa chasing after her. He's spent like a hundred years learning how to fight and kill, not sneak and steal. It's Vala's personality (the "lovable rogue") that makes her think of something unconventional like using the incoming Jaffa reinforcements and the double-sided energy transfer of the Rings to sneak inside. Considering her history it makes a lot of sense - her first appearance in SG-1, she infiltrated the Prometheus by tricking them into using the Rings to get her aboard!
I agree with you. As an example, the show "The Expanse" could have been the new Stargate but the writers turned it into a soap opera for personal drama. Science fiction needs awe and discovery to challenge human sensibilities. The Expanse had it all and blew it off for drama, politics, and LGBTQ.
@@ToIsleOfView Homie I don't think you read or watched the Expanse if you think politics and interpersonal drama weren't the driving forces of the entire 9 novel series lmao
Always thought Vala's answer to the tortoise question was pretty revealing of her character. Like, the only reason she wouldn't help the tortoise was because she couldn't? Good writing.
Both black and browder were a good choice to bring over, black is a bundle of spontaneity needed to smooth out the stiffness of the other characters while browder is an excellent replacement for RDA keeping the same archetype but a fresh start/take.
The actress who played Morgan La Fae is, after Claudia Black and Amanda Tapping, my favorite SG1 actress. The scene where she fights Adria- the look on her face, the tilt of her head, and the three words, "I am now..." deserved an Emmy Award. And the voice Vala uses when she's telling Daniel to get to the point, when questioning Morgan La Fae, deserves an award, as well.
I was really impressed by Claudia Black, Vala was so diametrically opposed to the Aryn Sun i was used to. Honestly it felt like she was channeling a lot of John Crichton into Vala. Just having fun and being a low key agent of chaos.
Stargate (SG1 and Atlantis) is part of the handful of scifi shows I've seen over the decades that ended very well, especially for as long as SG1 ran. Vala (and all the trouble she gave Daniel) really helped them pull that off.
Aeryn Sun was angsty and emo sometimes...and always intense. Claudia Black must've loved letting loose to play Vala. She just looks like she's having a ton of fun.
CGI was still a complex and costly thing back then. An intersection of math and code and science and media and artistry, plus an avid interest in the details of how tech things worked on and under the computer screens. The domain of skilled and knowledgeable people with real passion for their work. They took pride in their craft, they strived to produce consistent quality, they were also driven to demonstrate computer effects could be better than the physical effects dominating the industry. These days CGI is just another career option. Too many people choose it just for the money. And most people do not possess the natural talents and learned skillsets of the innovators. They just model mediocre copypasta which (to them) is "good enough" for the show. And they always scale things up up up way past eleven to hide deficient quality behind epic quantity.
Stargate used a LOT of CGI and VFX. They were quite good for the time, and contributed to the overall quality of the show. But the excellent writing and cast also helped make it a great show. CGI is a storytelling tool, and it's only really bad when people rely too much on it, and phone in other aspects of the process.
Oh wow...took me forever to notice. Been watching Stargate for what? a decade now? lol. Isn't Young Adria (shown in the first couple minutes of this compilation), the young queen that Mckay saved in Stargate Atlantis (Episode: "Harmony") and older her is now 5 in Dark Matter?
Ha, yeah I barely remember her in Atlantis, but I think so! And that’s definitely her in Dark Matter. I think she’s appeared in several sci-fi/horror franchises.
They all knew damn well that 🙄 Woolsey had a stick too far up his 🐴to be much of a lech, but no one was gonna say squat,he was that much of an....well,🐴.
I'm just imagining the bloopers, she is like fine I will not rule the galaxy, and walks off, Vala is like you see a strong figure of a parent is important.
There are very few women I genuinely have a crush on in "TV Land". Claudia is one of them. You cant fake that humour. She's amazing. Theres lots of talk of a Star Gate re-boot at the moment, and not much mention of her.... for me, she should be a very present character. Crush aside, she brought a lot to the show. Hell, she could pretty much have her own show.
Ahhh .. the writers really had fun with her character. A perfect combination of combining the skills an actor with lines they could deliver in a such a great way. I liked her in Farscape but I think this really helped show her talents.
You have to wonder sometimes if Vala was simply an Ancient who ran away from her people 🤔 and used her omniscience to travel around righting terrible wrongs, wreaking havoc and having too much fun with lower beings, never quite crossing that line so that her fellow Lanteans can't yank her back to the Higher Plane....
"It would be like putting together a St. Bernard and a Chihuahua." "And the problem with that would be...?" Well, depending on which one's the male, the Chihuahua's either going to be squashed, or in need of a stepladder.
Adria's teeth fell out at a quarter past 2. "Do you really think these will hold me?" Her one liners were a hoot. Like when she made light of the Appropriation committee chairman's 'manhood'.
I love how most of her scenes are just her doing things to raise Daniel's blood pressure and then slowly Daniel just gets used to having her around all the time.
I forgot how entertaining Vala is. When Jack left we needed some quirky humor to replace him. Vala is the perfect replacement. It's amazing how important Jack was to the series. It took two actors to replace him. This elevated Jackson and demoted Carter from the genius heroine to just genius. The writers did a great job of keeping it full of intrigue with constant innovation. Mitchel is too cocky and matter of fact in his command position. He was not the best choice to replace Jack but then who is?
My only suggestion would be cutting in the scene where she gets her SG1 badges. She was more excited than adults tend to be, since she had been running away from teams and family her whole life. Then end it where you did.
How would you give a psychological test to an alien who knows nothing of earth culture let alone american culture? Not to mention an alien that had another alien inside of them and the second alien pretended to be a god.
She's human. Sure, she biologically came from an offshoot of humanity that the Goa'uld took with them when they left earth, but she was stll human. A psychological evalutation is still possible, since they're not evalutating your knowledge, they're evalutaing how you answer. Confidently? Uncertain? Dominant? Submissive? etc. add up a few hundred of those questions at random then a trained psychologist can make an educated guess on how you'll most likley behave in certain situations.
I fell about laughing at the polygraph scene. I'll have to give Stargate another look. I can see where the writers of The Orville got their inspiration.
Daniel and Vala have a great chemistry. I'm pretty sure that had a lot to do with why she went from one-off character to recurring guest star, then regular cast member. The sexual tension between them is funny and she kind of acts like an annoying childhood friend. I'd say bratty sister, but they end up together in at least one time line.
I think that Vala is so sexy and cute. Danial did eventually find out and they were together for years. He really did love her. To bad that only Teal'c remembered it. That was my favorite episode.
it really got on my nerves when everybody underestimated Vala. yes, she is a bit chaotic, and yes she can't always be trusted, but she is as capable as any SG team member if not more so. Finally yes, i agree that she needed that psych session...
9:06 One of the problems with Stargate: SG1 is the addresses; they always end with earth. Okay, I guess in Dominion, there were only 6. But with the seventh symbol being point of origin, I would expect gate addresses to be routinely shown as only having 6 symbols. And of course, you cannot dial home unless you know the symbol for the planet you are on.
What should bother you more is that the symbols on the ends for both addresses shown on screen are the same, indicating that they are the same planet, not two.
actually, the dhd remebers and dials the 7th chevron (or the 8th) meaning you only need to remeber the 6 (or 7) for your destination. However when bypassing the DHD (like the SGC does on a regular basis because they dont have one) you have to dial it yourself, which can be a slight problem when you dont know which one belongs to the planet
They end in the earth symbol because the address is from earth. And the only symbol different on each planet is the origin symbol for that particular gate. They don't need anything else.
How did she managed to get all her things into the gate room? Let alone herself... Isn't the gate room one of the most secured (if not the most) room on the planet? ... Guards?!
