Fact ...As everything increases in price due to inflation and budgets tighten, the majority of consumers in all Societes will need to cutout all non-essentials ... 📡🛰️ Food, Shelter and for now Fuel are essentials everything else is not. The small percentage of those that are rich are not affected. However, the rest of us are...

@@petecoventry6858 We all indulge in what we deem necessary and can afford... But only as long as we able; including businesses. The importance of communication and distribution of knowledge couldn't be clearer as to when the Ukrainians President requested StarLink terminals for his people as he well understands that knowledge is power. Only access to knowledge will equalize all peoples in their respective societies. Something the rich are all too well aware of... Thanks for your comment.

Just got my email on this yesterday. Hardware up $50 USD to $549 USD if you are already in the "wait list" (like me) and $100 USD more, $599 USD for anyone who signs up after. Also the monthly service price up from $99 USD to $110 USD.... first time I got a price increase before I even got the item.

I asked for a refund on my deposit. This is a terrible business decision. I’ll revisit it later if/when service will be available in my area. Almost 2 years with no equipment and then a price hike? Yeah right 👋

Yesterday morning we got the email about the price increase and decided to go ahead and order when we got a chance. We paid our deposit over a year ago. Last night we got an email telling us we could go ahead and order our equipment. I can’t wait for it to come in. We have the most expensive plan that Hughesnet offers at $156.98 a month and can’t stream anything without buffering. This was an easy choice.

I'm still waiting since Feb last year. Back then the CA$129 was pushing it already; that's going to be even harder now. I'm on disability, so spend most of my time at home. The internet is my main way of communicating with the world. Currently I'm on a 8/2 Mbps with Xplornet, that effectively is more like 6/1. Luckily it's been OK for most of the time. Although Fall and Spring are the times of the year where frequent outages are very common. I hope that Starlink will consider lower prices for people on fixed income, or will offer 'slower' plans that are cheaper. If I can get a stable 10/2 Mbps link for half of the CA$140, I'm in! Then I can even keep my cellphone or satellite TV around.

I wouldn’t be surprised if starlink has another increase, in the next six months to a year. Before they were talk of inflation, Starlink is hemorrhaging money, there not as of yet showing a profit.

Very happy with the product and so much so I will be keeping it. Yes price change is a bit hard to swallow. I suppose all the free dishes and solar and battery's that were sent to the Ukraine have to be paid for somehow. Here is Canada both the dish and the service have gone up. With exchange we pay 144.95 / per month ALREADY, so the price increase will be over $160. a month. I had cheaper service from Shaw but it was no as fast or as reliable. STARLINK HAS BEEN THE VERY BEST INTERNET SERVICE HERE IN BC CA. That and i can take it on my motorhome for the summer 6 months, cant do that with shaw, which is the only real reason that i got it for. Being able to do voice and video calls from areas that have no phone connection and do it while watching Netflix or RU-vid is simply priceless. ELON.....NO MORE PRICE INCREASES FOR A WHILE EH !! I just ordered mine as I am looking to explore the network. If you look at the trajectory of the Beta to Starlink and Business capacity bundle cross overs, it appears that the bandwidth will go up over time as they get to break even. I think he will come out with a super duper business model that increases price for enterprise users. That will keep prices as they are for quite some time.

I live in rural Vermont. My only other options are really bad down-way-too-long-a-wire DSL (3-4 down, .5 up (really)) and Hughes & Viasat geosync, who my neighbors say deliver about 1/4 of what they say they will, with absolutely abysmal customer service. $110 Starlink sounds fine to me.

I got a refund on my deposit last week, the projected roll out for my area of the USA was still (maybe) second half of 2022. They have had interest on my $99 for over a year now and really no signs that I might get this anytime before 2023 as the projected time table keeps slipping. They already have coverage in some parts of my state (for about a year), not sure what the hold up really is. I went with LTE/5g T Mobile and getting better than cable speeds for $50 per month, happy enough. The jump in upload to 50-60mbps is a big improvement for us. Our Spectrum needed a reboot several times a day, with not more than each week to reboot. Every time the wind blew or the rain fell, we would have an outage. Can't get in touch with anyone there, and if you do set up an appointment, and they see your internet back in operation, they will often cancel your appointment with a tech. because "it is no longer needed". Glad to have them gone!

Had Starlink launched a year earlier before the 4G service improved here, I would have ordered. With the nearby address I tried on the Starlink order page, it mentioned "Due Today €709.00", so looks like there is capacity available here if I choose to order now, good to know if my 4G service deteriorates too much. Name an ISP that's not going up, along with any other utility due to inflation. I've done the math it's 28.00$ more than Bell Ultra Slow DSL in my area but for superior speed etc. So it's the price of 2 Starbucks coffee daily, meh, not too upsetting, checking my debug data everyday to see a TRUE roaming indication, thanks for the video Mike

My ISP had reduced rates last year while promising speed increases. I got a $30 a month refund because they oversold and my service was unusable. Now with Starlink availability their service has miraculously come back. It will be twice the cost for Starlink, but I won't go through another year without reliable service.

With the phone problems we have been having over the past two years and the fact that DSL is going down the tubes, Starlink was the best option. In May it will be a one year wait. Service by mid 2022 is what it currently says. If I didn't have a friend in AT&T, it would be 4 or 5 days without service each time we have a storm. So Starlink will still be coming although the price should have stayed the same for all pre-orders. The adapter price change, not enough to worry about. Monthly charge, not good but not all that bad when you look at all the other price increases. Gasoline from $3.89 to $5.39/gal on my fill up yesterday.

@blackwolf9748
@blackwolf9748 2 года назад
I completely agree with your sentiment. I don't mind the price increase if it helps SpaceX further their mission. Also honestly... the fact is the only other option I have for Internet connectivity is 6mbit down/512k up At&t DSL for $85 a month. $110 for the 150-200mbit down and 10-15mbit up im getting through Starlink is worth the extra cost. My biggest concern is this will become a trend with the pricing, but more worrisome is if they start enforcing download caps. The data caps (and latency of course) is what made viasat and Hugesnet unusable for me. These days downloading 1 game for PS5/Xbox Series X|S or streaming a couple of 4k movies can make you hit your data cap for the month in 1-2 days on these other services.

With the environment today I’m not surprised. There’s no way to successfully operate a business without price increases when the environment around logistic and materials is uncertain. If people don’t like it then find another company that you like. It’s that simple. No different than jumping from Rogers, to Bell, to Telus (Canadian Telco companies). Also, this is a great move for when Amazon, OneWeb and others launch their space internet services. Prices will drop again but not until things become a little more certain and a little more stable.

Just to have perspective, it's a 10% increase in both the unit cost and the monthly service cost. In the grand scheme of things, that's pretty much a yawn. For those who have been waiting for this, such as myself, I'd say that the increase is just noise in the background, and won't change anything for me in terms of my decision to use Starlink.

The biggest thing to remember here is that Elon Musk means well in every way and starlink is operating at a loss right now for the sake of providing internet access to the whole world. Elon is a little ambitious and optimistic, so it doesn't hurt to expect that his final mark might be a little bit higher. We've seen this with most of his projects, but regardless of that aspect, he is still changing the world in ways that others can only dream of. They could increase it a lot more and it'd still be worth it for me. There are no copper lines that could push internet to my house without a ridiculously high bill or paying a company to run new lines. The only option we have is 4g lte hotspot through our phones (which is workable) or horrible satellite through viasat or hughsnet. 5G home internet will probably be available here soon, but starlink just shipped out my dishy and beat them to it. I'm so excited to see how this grows!

yeah, I am still going to stay on the waiting list for the dish to see finally when it comes but I am almost sure I will cancel mine as the price increase was allot for the hassle of things Ive been reading about connectivity/downtime's as compared to my now ISP been 99.9% stable (just slower speeds 25D 5U). The issues I've been reading is that Starlink tech support is slow to respond, the add on ethernet adapter is either DOA from bent pins/pin guides or soon disconnects from dishy and hard to reset the dish/router/adapter setup, also some users report slower speeds using the adapter vs the wifi. I might wait a year or two for Starlink to become prooven for me to switch again from my 4G internet (witch is a solid tech these days, just 4G availability in nowhere land and of course what the steep price for 6Mbit the ISP wants to charge).
@RyanGrissett
@RyanGrissett 2 года назад
I upgraded from dial-up to 3g and then 4g hotspots the moment they were available. It's all I've know for the longest time and it has been pretty reliable. The best decision I made was just getting a normal unlimited phone plan on a rooted unlocked phone. You can setup VPN over hotspot and use unlimited hotspot while streaming 4k video for as long as you feel like it if there is no network congestion. Only reason to root your device if it is unlocked is for the VPN over hotspot. If you don't use a VPN, your provider will most likely throttle your video if it detects you watching it. That's what all the major carriers do. I can't wait for starlink though because I will no longer have to worry about being throttled while streaming movies and the latency should in theory be better. The good thing about getting a good unlocked phone for the hotspot is that I still use it as my normal phone and have internet on the go and also great starlink internet to come home to.

I’m in SoCal USA 🇺🇸 & I’ve been waiting for my Starlink dish for over a year now. The price increase is upsetting; but after I receive Starlink, I’m planning on picking up RU-vid TV & dropping Dish Network. This will result in a monthly price savings as I’ll also be dropping my current ISP, which is a very slow & unreliable 20Mbps, that completely looses service for days at a time when there’s any kind of weather. My current ISP is a very unreliable point-to-point radio dish setup done by a very small mom & pop shop with terrible customer service & they have no interest in improving their network. 🤬 Starlink says that I should be able to get service in mid 2022; this date is pushed back from November 2021. Thanks again for your wonderful videos, keep up the good work 👍🏻

Don't care. In the scheme of things, this is insignificant for what you get. It is not my only choice in my area, but it is the best choice for a number of reasons. The other providers in my area have very weak infrastructure and Starlink hops right over that to the high bandwidth backbone network.

@@MikeOnSpace I've been running Starlink since it arrived. I have the round disk. I'm in NW Oregon and must have had Starlink for a year by now. In the Columbia River it maintains it's link, but in a hard turn it may briefly loose it. But with the usual buffering, you don't notice it in a browser. Movies, RU-vid, etc, stream fine. I have an 83' boat, with a 120/240v inverter, 2 generators, and alternators on the main engines that will keep up the batteries while running. So my generator use has gone way down but I have 24/7 AC power. I normally go between Astoria and Alaska, but haven't traveled since covid. I haven't tried Starlink in the ocean, yet, but doubt it's antenna movements are fast enough for anything but calm waters. It should work fine at anchor. What's probably needed for boat use is a gimbal antenna system. Many boat people are hoping it's usable for world wide cruising. When I first got the system, I didn't have the antenna fastened down and in high wind was blown overboard, tethered by it's cord. I gave it time to dry, and it's been fine ever since. With a VPN, average speed is about 30-50mbps, without about 80-200+mbps.
