No, it isn't. Jefferson Airplane split up when Jack Casady and Jorma Kaukonen, who owned half the name, left to be Hot Tuna. Paul Kantner and Grace Slick then started a new band and called it Jefferson Starship. Paul left in '84 and sued her over the use of the name he came up with, so they dropped the "Jefferson" and became Starship.

Guys thank you so much for doing a reaction on this song, this song is FAR from the worst song of all time, the song represented the time. Perfectly and it still had that thrown together quality that Jefferson Starship and Airplane had over the years, it's a brilliant song, The musicianship is always top-notch and I can think of plenty of other songs that are way worse than this one. Mostly because fickle force-fed humans can't think for themselves and they jump on the hating bandwagon without coming up with their own opinion.

There is a musical also made into a movie called Rock of Ages, which has a bunch of 80s songs. "We Built This City" is one of them. It also reminds me that I don't think you have reacted to Night Ranger song "Sister Christian" and Warrant's "Heaven" (One of the great love ballads from the 80s and not the same from as Bryan Adams song).

You may notice that Mickey Thomas, the lead singer here in this song, was also singing the lead in the Elvin Bishop song “Fooled Around and Fell in Love”. I love his voice. Even though a lot of people don’t like this song and consider it hokey or bubblegum music, it was catchy at the time and a lot of people appreciated Mickey Thomas’s voice. The 80s had some great music but it also had some songs in it that were kind of 😑.

This song brings back so many memories! Love it! If they had toned down the keyboards and turned up the guitars in the mix it would have made the entire difference. It's a pretty rocking song, but the mix makes it sound more poppy than this song really is. The guitar riffs are pretty rocking, but hidden behind this synthy sound. It is ironic that they used this mix of keyboards when singing about building this song on ROCK N ROLL!

I can't believe you haven't reacted to the man who totally blew Starship off the stage in 1979-the legendary Rory Gallagher! Please take a listen to "Tattoo'd Lady" from the 1979 performance at Rockpalast for a sample of the blues fury that was Rory on stage. At the Capitol Theatre in Passaic, New Jersey in 1979, Rory was the opening act for Starship and was called back for THREE encores. When Rory quit the tour as the opening act (Starship treated him and his band badly), Starship offered to refund tickets for those folks who wanted a refund. They were taken aback when fully half of the ticketholders for the tour wanted their money back. You really should take a listen to Rory!

When founding member Paul Kantner left the band, they dropped the Jefferson and became simply Starship. This song has often been ranked as the worst song of all time, but I don't mind it at all. Definitely a different sound but it is ok with me. I think you would like Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now. Great dual vocals by Mickey Thomas and Grace Slick. It was in the movie mannequin, so if you do the video it has scenes from that movie. Also Stranger is a good one. Weird fact, before Grace Slick, Jefferson Airplane had a different female singer, Signe Anderson. She and Paul Kantner both passed away on the exact same day, January 28, 2016.

The song was almost haunting and I don't remember the original giving me that, like that chill down to my bones. She really just has such a unique sound that I really felt like I wasn't really ready for her. I am sure during the song some of you probably noticed that my mouth was hanging open and I had to remind myself to actually close my mouth so I don't look like a big dummy. I am not really sure why shes not better known here in the US, because honestly, before people were telling me in the comments to listen to her, I had never even heard of her. But somethings telling me that's probably not going to be the case for too much longer because she has a lot of talent and she is super unique. I feel like that's going to take her really far. Thank you guys for recommending this. She was awesome.
