Huge shout out to Lyle. Thank you so much for inviting me out to check out your setup. Being so young and being so level headed, Lyle has a bright future ahead of him. You can see the passion he has for heavy diesel. He knows where he’s headed, and it’s to the top of his field. Again, thank you so much for having me out there - it was a blast. If you enjoyed Lyle’s tour, give him a Like!

The reason he probably can afford these tools is that he’s not paying a student loan off😅 Seriously though, I hope he’s not going into too much debt on the tool truck, because that really crashes a lot of young mechanics early in their career. You don’t have to have every single tool you see, pay as you go.

Our education system has done a disservice to the country's youth by pushing college. I am in my 70s now and did go to college because I needed it to do what I wanted to do. But we had great vocational programs at my high school that served many well. Those seem to be disappearing. But I had no student debt to speak of either. Started college a year late to save some money, worked part time and even dropped out for a year and a half o work full time just so there was no debt when I was done. So I finished 2 years later than my high school mates, which is nothing years down the road.

I mean if he's living at home, driving his first car and not knocked any girls up by this point he's got single man money to burn. I wish I had spent that "Single man money" I had on my tools. instead of blowing it on lifted trucks and guns.
@williamcabral1615
@williamcabral1615 9 месяцев назад
@@elmoz71ls15right spent my single mans money on trucks, guns, girls, drugs, and booze. Now married with 2 kids and a house. I was dumb and never even took advantage of the 50% snap-on discount for being a student. I was smart and didn't do what most do and buy a big ass box with no tools to go in it I I spent my money on tools first and bought a cheap kobalt box(with stereo and mini fridge 🤣) which lasted me about 8 yrs before buying by first snap on box I did go to college only for an AS tho(which some don't consider real college) cause Caterpillar offered a fully paid scholarship program all I had to pay for was living and books it was accelerated course got AS in one yr cause we would rotate between paid internship at CATERPILLAR dealer ship started with two months school then two months OJT in dealer and repeat for 2 yrs which is about 1yr OJT 1yr in class school and u get AS in diesel technology and also caterpillar specific degrees came out with certification with two different a/c cert a BS forklift cert, weld certs and bunch of miscellaneous CAT specific certs. Two yrs after graduating journeyed out and received a national journeyman's card. Continued working for CAT 10-11 yrs then quit when CAT/ my dealer partnered with international went to do my own mobile mechanics then COVID hit which squashed that now the soul mechanics managing and maintaining a fleet of 35+trucks and 47+ trailers for semi local company ironically literally across the street from the cat dealer I worked for....first job that after the interview they asked me to let them know what I decide rather then them tell me they let me know what they decide. Edit: not sure why I just went into almost a full job resume 🤣just got caught up in the flow of it 🤣

@ifyoutip
@ifyoutip 8 месяцев назад
I suppose I have much less $ in my collection of tools but have more tools. But I didn't buy many off the tool trucks because I couldn't afford them. They just are not good enough for the price. I can buy most Knipex tools for almost half price of the tool truck at my local hardware store! I bought probably 40 knipex pliers, cutters, and such from the local hardware store last year. They gave me really good prices. I can also get good proto and wright tools and Klein and NWS and PI, Tiger tools, K&D and so many other tools that have served me well. Some of the tools i regret buying most are the Milwaukee hand tools. The 3/4" cornwell impact sockets were also a bad buy. Im not saying the cornwell impact sockets are junk, but I have found much cheaper sockets that are better. Often Its not hard to find out who makes the name brand tools and buy the same thing for cheaper. Like the very same identical Irwin and Matco tap and die set can be a couple hundred dollars difference in price.

Nice young man! What he spoke, he knows what he is talking about. Great start to his career. Thank you for the tour, Lyle. Get a couple XXL fender washers, or a 6" piece of flat stock for the caging bolt. You mentioned dump trucks, and they usually go into limestone quarries. The chamber shell sometimes gets rotted and that little washer caves it in. Yeah, I owned trucks for 18 years, LOL!

Great video. That is an impressive set of tools for any mechanic let alone 1 year out of high school.

Lol I almost lost it when he said the set skipped 15/16 bro if you work on semis you know how important that size is. Literally damn near every bolt on a semi is 15/16 why would you make an oversized wrench set and not have that size

Ya i know i seen them at harbor freight and have always wanted an 1 1/6 and 1 1/8 ratchet and seen the smallest size. i got home and looked at them all and seen it didnt have 15/16 and was like wtf

Never judge a man by the size of his tool box. Hope he isn’t going into mass debt to have a box like that! Been a tech for over 20 years and blown away with how expensive tools are on the trucks now. I always suggest buying used boxes
