Shane I always enjoy your videos and think you do a great job. You have probably thought of this before or perhaps already do it, but your voice and presentation is one of the most professional in this area. Have you thought about doing voice-overs, radio work, voice acting, journalism etc?
Another outstanding video, Shane. I just love how your channel has evolved over the years to reflect your personal watch preferences, not hype watches. My tastes align very much with yours and I truly look forward to the quirky collection! Thank you for the time and effort you put into producing these videos.
The screws aren’t “faux” on the Oris Aquis crown gaurd. They are removable and you can change the crown gaurd piece out if they are damaged. But I see your point that it would be a cleaner look without the screws.
I'd also enjoy seeing category overviews. Like, some of my favorite types are compressors, fliegers, and anything good for travel and outdoors like dual-times and field watches. Also, you've got a pretty good eye for obscure, unique, and/or quirky watches. You could do a whole series like this and use your collection to explain the different types. Fun and educational! :)
The butterscotch Jet Star and gold Olympus are also in my core collection. Recently, I would have to throw in my gold Super Seville as well. I am amazed at it's beauty every time I stare at the dial. Bulova has been swinging for the fence.
Great video. My only red dial at the moment is a Citizen Tsyosa rose gold/red dial. I upgraded the clasp by replacing the stamped scissor with a milled one while keeping the original clasp. I'm planning on adding the Citizen Attesa Moonphase with a red face as well.
Great video, collection of watches. Your last diver, the monster is a sweet one. I bought that one as a jdm. Had it on a light blue canvas strap. Looked perfect, but felt head heavy on my wrist. Recently put it on a strapco vintage bor bracelet. Wow! Perfect for me. Very stunning look. Love your collection, how you enjoy watches. Thanks
Great presentation, Shane. I love collections that are unpredictable - so many are ‘here’s my Rolex Sub, my OP, my Cartier Tank, my Seamaster, my Speedmaster…’ This is a great balanced and interesting collection - love the Zodiac and the Jack Mason!
Interesting selection of watches. "Perfectly imperfect" is an a accurate description of the Olympos. I also had the blue version and liked it but returned it because legibility was an issue. Ironically, I missed it and bought the black version recently. It's only slightly better in that regard, but I love it! What are some good 19mm straps you would recommend?
Fantastic collection mate, I especially like the Jet Star and hope to pick the same model up soon for myself. What was the Easter Egg in the lume, I couldn't see it ?.
On the Dr. Pepper the 10, 2, & 4 indices glow green, while the others are blue. It's a throw back to one of Dr. Peppers oldest advertising slogans. "Have a Drink or bite to eat at 10, 2, and 4" .
Nice way to condense things down for a video Shane. I kinda wish you had a museum with plaques of your whole collection so that all could be appreciates by your viewers haha. I was thinking about your Wise Adamascus AD7. Where does that fit for you? And would you sell it?
I love the Zodiac. I'll for sure buy one when I can. Also, like you, I need a red dial in my collection. Because it contrasts everything I wear but winds up that people want to ask me about it. For me it's the Reverie Diver. Which is just the perfect watch for me.
My collection started in Fall 2018 and is already well over 160 pieces. It's an addiction definitely. I love variety so I have every different style and also pieces from many different States and Countries.
As a non native speaker, I often learn new vocab watching your videos. This time: "go hog wild". 😊 Thank you. And I like the idea of a SOTC video you chose this time. Cheers
Awesome collection as always! I honestly wouldn’t worry much about the 50 meter WR on your Hamilton. I’m going to assume you have never been 150ft below the surface, and if you did, I am positive you didn’t do so in your Hammy lol. I was originally caught up in that too, but let’s be honest, Hammy’s are great every day watches, nothing more, nothing less.
Very well presented, interesting and beautiful watches. A much better format than racing through loads of watches, thank you. I'm looking forward to the quirky ones more though.
Not a bad one in the bunch. I’m proud to say I was able to guess several of them. I literally said out loud, “how about the Monster?” Looking forward to part 2!
That's a nice bakers dozen. My Aquis would be in my top picks too. A Monta is also on my list, if they ever did a white dial. Anyways nice collection, I remember being on the livestream last year and you were talking about selling some... if you're like me that hasn't happened yet - too much trouble 😂
I’m hovering around 21 in my collection sold 2 recently but bought a couple from Ali so it’s going to be tough on a separate note the market for selling them on on EBay etc has fallen of a cliff (in the uk anyway) so some will have to wait to be sold so I can make more funds to buy new stuff
Giving some love for the Garmin Instinct Solar too! Definately my grab and go quartz with the most wrist time (though a recent back injury has limited my activities). The rest of my watches are probably going to mimic your 'state of the quirky' as that's why I love in the hobby. I'll root for the BREW Metric to get on that list!
Yeah, I thought about including it and mentioned it. Eventually decided to leave it out as I didn't want it to be a balanced collection and not too diver heavy.
From 130 watches down to 12. I don't know how you did it as I would struggle to select 12 from the 25 watches I own. 12 brilliant picks and two of which are in my top 5 watches I'm considering for this year i.e., the Bulova Jet Star (in red) and Vario Empire GMT (in green). The Monta Triumph is definitely growing on me the more I see it.
Watches that make you smile - that's the essence of collecting, dood 👊👌! I find this sotc format always kind of boring, but I love to listen to your stories for sure!
great collection. congratulations. also it would be interesting to see all your watches in one video. after your reviews, the white climber and the red camasu came to me more than three years ago and it seems that they will stay with me. as well as all the others I take.
I might try another livestream later on. I ridged a second camera up and had it pointed down, so I could show everything. I thought that was a good way to go over so many. Plus had Dave and Alton along to ask questions and comment on things too.
With over 100 watches in your home I'm sure it's pretty hard getting wrist time for all your favorites. I have just about 60 watches and I'm thinking of thinning the collection but I just can't part with anything right now. 😮
Great video. Nice "Core" collection. It would have been weird if you had no Seiko on the list. Besides, I like your Seiko MMR more than the Oris. Love the Monta Triumph. I'm about the same on the Khaki King. I don't wear it a lot but when I put it on, I usually keep it on a couple of days and see it as a core piece for me.
The Oris Aquis is great watch, I prefer the blue version of yours though, my SOTC in order of preference is, Tudor Ranger, Seiko Special Edition Alpinist (1675 of 2021), Longines Hydroconquest, Rado Captain Cook, Orient Kamasu, Casio GA2100 (stealth), Hamilton Khaki King.................. I'm looking at the Alpinist GMT, but my grey one is stopping me.
I almost got the blue one, but I ran across a picture of the Grey Anthoricte and was hooked. Plus I was thinking that someday I might want a blue Aqua Terra or Seamaster. So I'll save the blue expensive watch slot for that.
Very interesting video. The screws on the crown guards of the Oris are not faux. The crown guards are most likely to get scratched, so Oris makes them replaceable.
Very nice! Man I really need a mechanical chronograph..... But it'll probably be a Seagull 1963.... I just don't see spending 1500.00 or more. Again nice collection!
Do you consider all the watches that you receive for the channel as part of your collection or do you keep those separate from your personal collection? I would be more interested to know what watches you've removed from your personal collection over the past year and why. Or maybe you have gotten rid of any and you can update us after you downsize in 2024.
Good question... yes and no. When I started I considered everything as part of my collection. I still sort of do, but as the channel and number of watches have grown I've been dividing them into different categories. So there would be my core collection, which this video is probably about half of. These are the watches I wear the most and the "keepers" Almost all of them live in a 24-slot watch box in my closet. Where the rest are in the spare bedroom that's become my filming studio. Then there is a sort of in-between category, which is most of the watches. The ones I like, but not sure are keepers yet. I can only wear so many watches and is ridiculous to keep over 100. Also as a general rule, I don't sell watches that are given to the channel right away. I always give them at least a few months before I decide what to do with them. Give them a chance to see if I choose to wear those over other watches. Then there are a couple of watches that I'm only keeping around for the channel. Ones I've lost interest in, but want to keep around as a reference. And lastly, there are the ones I've already decided to sell, that I just haven't gotten around to yet. Late last year I bought a couple of 10-slot nylon travel cases. I put a label on them that says "The Chopping Block" These watches go in there. Also, it doesn't really matter if I receive a watch to do a review or I buy one to do a review, they both get treated the same. The only thing that gets special treatment is if I buy it more for me, and will do a review on it anyway. So for example The Glacier MMR is one I bought more for me and automatically was part of the core collection. Whereas the Orient Star Standard is one I bought more to review and wound up keeping instead of selling after reviewing it. Then there is the Orient Star 1964 diver, which I bought solely to review, and didn't warm up to it. So recently sold that. Now as for Core watches I sold last year, I don't think I did. Although this year I'll probably be selling a few. Usually, those are watches that I've lost interest in or have been replaced by something similar. For me, if I haven't worn something in 6 months, it's time to consider selling it. So for example my White Alpinist. I recently got the green GMT, and it's replaced it. So I'll be selling that this year. Another example would be the Cocktail Time Mojito. I really like it, but haven't worn it in a while. I usually grab something else as a dress watch. Plus that Green Alpinist has a similar color scheme. So I probably should sell that one.
These definitely seem like watches you would wear. It’s funny how different my collection is, but there is a little something for everyone in the watch world !
I have exactly the same feeling about the khaki king, and i don't understand why but everytime i see it on video or photos it just looks so "mehhh". Its probably one of the most "non photogenic" watches ever, but when on the wrist is just almost perfect.
Great video. SOTC videos of more than 25 watches are simply displays with rushed comments. I did a similar thing last year. I did my SOTC broken into categories: outdoor, work, dress, etc. It was more engaging for me and manageable size of watches for the viewer. That reminds me…I need to get going this! Do you ever drink from that mug you set down while recording?😉
It never makes it into the videos, but I'm drinking constantly out of those. I got 3 or 4 of them lying around and always fill them with ice water before recording.
Oh no!! You got the "lighthouse" (hour hand.....) Oris. Which, btw, is more Audi of the past, than Volvo, imo, other than NOT being square😋. Enjoy your "dirty dozen" Shane. Out of a dozen... of tens... plus many more!!! Knowing most of your arsenal, i'd be into other choices in fact, but hey... to each his own, right? With the exception of the beautiful Zodiak Olympos! PS Love the "red dial" category, so you indeed!
I do need to thin out the herd, but not planning on getting rid of many of the old favorites. I just had to limit it for this video. The Alpinist GMT almost made it in... and I probably could swap it for the Vario Empire GMT. It could pass as a green dress watch.
Ok soo... no one asked so far... What about the Christopher Ward? I love that Olympos and I wish that the Brew watch will be staying in the collection in another box 🙂. Your collection is unique and it truly feels personal Shane, two thumbs up for keeping true to yourself!!!
@@javierjimenez786I was expecting someone to ask about it, which is why I said something. Just because it was recently in my top 10 of 2023. I still have it, still like it. But in a video like this, I had to some tough choices and it just got left behind. If I had to pick between it and the Jack Mason for a GMT, I'd go with the Jack Mason. If for no other reason then I like the 9075 movement better when traveling.
I hear you. But still, 10 year life, more expensive. I have the seiko SNE573, the Citizen BN0169-03X (orange) and BN0151-09L (blue) No battery change, quartz precision, beautiful and cheap to buy brand new. The Volkswagen or the AK47 of watches . This is the future no matter on how old the technology is:)@@RelativeTime
Have to mention the Garmin tourchlight is maybe the best watch feature of all time!!!!!! Whether it's moving around in the morning and not turning on the lights to wake anyone or finding your dog's no. 2 in the dark. It's a game changer for me! Great video!
@@A_Dude_And_His_Watch78Rolex Air King, Rolex GMT Master II, Tudor Black Bay 41, Grand Seiko Four Seasons Collection, Vacheron Constantin Americaine, Omega Speedmaster White Dial, Blancpain fifty fathoms… For budget watches, I would go G Shock.
@@A_Dude_And_His_Watch78 Then I would buy a collection of G Shocks and Seiko Astron, Nomos Club Campus, Junghans Max Bill, Sinn 556, Longines Legend Diver, Longines Heritage Classic. Alternatively, if I was on a budget, I would save up for a Rolex Explorer for a one-watch collection. But I certainly wouldn’t buy any of the watches mentioned in the video regardless of price, since taste is relative, and there’s no right or wrong.
@@sadaka201 Ahh... Whoever said it did? Actually don't answer that... let me just say this. If anyone is ever focusing on either pure quantity or quality... they aren't going to get what I'm doing. With this video, the channel, and dare I say watch collecting in general. Or at least what I think it is. Watch collecting should never be a dick-measuring contest of any kind. There is no prize at the end for who has the biggest, or most expensive collection. Yet there is a prize every time you look down and smile at a watch you have a personal connection with... and that right there is key to what I think collecting is about. Your personal connection to each piece, regardless of what it is. You should never buy a watch simply because "it's the best", or someone says it is. Or ever to impress someone else. You should only buy a watch if there is something you like about it and something that connects with you. Otherwise, you're not on your own watch-collecting journey, but following someone else's. Ultimately that's what I think my collection is about, and what I'd like my channel to be about. Cheers!
