The subject of strokes hits home for me as I have observed their impact on people who are close to me. In this video, I cover the relationship between taking statins and the probability of experiencing a stroke.

Statins don’t provide the level of protection most people think they do and they have way too many side affects. There seems to be a strong indication they may bring on type 2 diabetes and also possible connection to Altzhiemer’s. Also on a statin, many, as I did, have a severe impact on quality of life due to extreme muscle pain all the time. Real benefits seem to be for secondary prevention meaning if you have already had a heart attack. Even better, change your diet and guess what, it’s not saturated fat, problem is a diet full of highly processed carbs and factory made fats. It’s the standard American diet that’s killing us.

Thanks for watching. I have addressed or will address many of these issues in past (and future) videos. I call the Standard American Diet the "Carbohydrate Rich All-Processed" (C.R.A.P.) diet. The onset of type 2 diabetes, in particular, seems to me to be underestimated.

@@mystatinfreelife _"Blind spot"?_ Isn't it a profit-driven blind spot? Is LDL actually bad?
@mystatinfreelife
@mystatinfreelife 5 месяцев назад
@KenJackson_US well yes, you broke the code for what I meant to imply by "blind spot.". As far as LDL being bad, I think it depends on the nature of the LDL. Oxidized LDL and Pattern B LDL, or high Lp(a) are all bad. But high LDL by itself may not necessarily be bad if not oxidized, Pattern A, and low Lp(a). Many will disagree with me on that and I hold these positions provisionally, subject to change as I learn more.

Yes, many people have no issues with them. I walk with a person weekly who had a heart attack 25 years ago and none since. He credits statins for this. I did a back of the envelope calculation and figure there's a greater than 50% chance he's correct. I'm more than happy to acknowledge people like your father who do well with them. I think I will prepare a video on that exact subject. I'm concerned not for the 70-80% of people who have no issues, but for the rest. Thanks for commenting and reminding us all that everyone is different and this channel shouldn't be used to make decisions, but rather to have appropriate discussions with our doctors if we do have issues or concerns.

You are doing great work. I have refused statins since I was 30 (and got fired by my doctor for refusing) and when I was 50 I got a CAC and it was zero. Now my doctor wants to test my cholesterol and I refuse (and she doesn't like that) I told her I am happy to get a CAC but the cholesterol number is meaningless.

Nice video, I did learn something this morning from it. My brother 5 years ago suffered a triple brain bleed. Geez, after listening to your talk, he is lucky to be alive. I think he told me the cost of the VA care was a million dollars. He's 2 years younger than me. He's still smoking, and drinking has made attempts to cut back. And as he says only under stress, he smokes and drinks. I know my grandmother died of a brain aneurysm at age 50 before I was born. You're so right about quality of life. I think I'd rather deal with a heart attack. But one thing is for sure, no statin for me. I think I'll stick with high dose vitamin C not only for its ability to reverse heart disease but in its oxidized form it does get by the blood brain barrier.
@mystatinfreelife
@mystatinfreelife 5 месяцев назад
Thanks for watching. One of my brothers also smokes and recently I discovered he takes rosuvastatin (generic Crestor.) He's having all sorts of problems, though not necessarily all attributable to statins specifically - he seems to be a classic victim of polypharmacy, a topic I think I'll have to address.

Cholesterol is produced by the body as a material to build structures. The problem is oxidized cholestetol and not the one the body produces. See what happened to Dr. Duane Graveline (4 books on statins) and see the book covers of Dr. Hannah Yoseph's books. So many people ended up in a wheelchair after the nerve degeneration caused by them.

My elderly mother is in hospital at the moment after having a mild stroke. The doctor in the hospital feels the statins she was taking has contributed to the development of the stroke.

Sorry to hear about your mother. It is very rare for a doctor to make the connection. Hopefully she will recover well and if the statins contributed to the cause, getting off them will help avoid it in the future.

@@mystatinfreelife I never got to personally talk to the doctor and talk to him about how he came to that conclusion. My mother, 91 is now in a rehab center to get some of her mobility back. They have stopped her statins at the rehab center currently and I will have to talk to the doctor there. My sister in law had a heart attack three years ago and she was put on statins. Last year she went to the hospital and they found that she had kidney failure. The doctor mentioned that they would have picked the changes in her kidney function earlier with regular blood tests. Basically the doctors mentioned that the statins that she was on had affected the kidney function over time.

I wonder about hypercholesterolaemia and whether people diagnosed with this may fit into the category of requiring the use of a statin.
@mystatinfreelife
@mystatinfreelife 5 месяцев назад
My feeling is that it's not total cholesterol as much as cholesterol quality that counts. Familial Hypercholesterolemia may be an exception where a statin, if tolerated, could be an option. According to standard definitions, I have Hypercholesterolemia, but I certainly don't require the use of a statin.

@mystatinfreelife
@mystatinfreelife Месяц назад
I am using diet and exercise and a few supplements. While I don't really put a lot of stock in online risk calculators, at least they say I have low risk, despite family history. My Lp(a) at one time was 7 mg/dL. It now is so low that all the lab can say is < 10 nmol/L. My trigs/HDL ratio is around 1.5. My HDL has more than doubled since I changed lifestyle and diet 4 years ago. These are all things family members have not done or didn't do. Also, several family members lived past 100 with no heart issues, so it's not all gloom and doom.
@vladimirandrianov5930
@vladimirandrianov5930 Месяц назад
@@mystatinfreelife Good to know that, thanks! My primary prevention is also diet and exercise although it happened by coinsidence, without even knowing my bad luck with LPA gene. Yours is obviously different (from your low Lp(a) readings) but there are at least 4 other genes for FH. All in all I don't and wouldn't rely on risk calculators, but only on direct measurements like CIMT or echocardiography. Lipid/trig/gluc levels are also helpful but the ultrasound tells us much more reliably where we actually are.
