Everyone saying this is better than U2's version. 1. It's not. 2. This is how U2 performs it live the last 20 years or so. 3. This version is basically the heartbroken crying in your room at night version. 4. U2's original version is the heartbroken while walking the streets at night version. They're both great. This version is simply different, not better.
me as a U2 fan prefers the flyleaf cover because it sets the lyrics in is place the way she sings it is so emotional. probably one of the few covers I'd prefer over the original.
Wow! Really? Alrighty then...to me, something is lacking compared to the original...i think the emotion does quite reach the same peak as it does when Bono and the boys knocked it out. Oh well, we cannot all agree.
this is so beutiful, my girlfreind laughed at me for listening to flyleaf.. then i put my headphones over her ears, now she understands and happily has joined the bright side. every hardcore rocker has a musical weakness, this is definetly mine.
As someone who was a huge fan of the film, I thought this was the better version over U2's. It just feels so heavy with emotion and it has this bittersweet feel that fits in with the tone of the film.
@Randy Steven Consuegra Ortega U2 wrote the song for a film called Faraway So Close, its a sequel to Wings Of Desire which was remade as City Of Angels.
Pardon me if this is posted deep in the comments. This is how U2 plays it live. It's also a gorgeous cover or an already brilliant tune. Well done Flyleaf!
oh my GOSH. when she sings "stay" .... this is an awesomeeeee cover. i looove u2 and im not a huge flyleaf fan but they are a great band. this is an amazing cover. i love her voice
you cant really compare this to the original... i only like the u2 version better cus im a die hard u2 fan... but this is a girl singer and different chord progression... neither has to be better... but keep in mind that it was u2 that wrote this beautiful, chilling song ;)
This version isn't bad but remakes can never beat originals. Somehow there's a special something that's present in originals but missing from remakes... Perhaps the momentum musicians get when they're using an idea for the first time... Perhaps a certain soul caught up in the first incarnations of songs... But whatever it is I've never heard any remake better than their originals. This one is no different. Interesting version though.
(i am not saying that this version suck or anything like that) but when Bono and The Edge sings Stay is something different, Bono almost crying and Edge watching him like his best friend... (btw, i cant speak english very good), and yes, Lois is my real name, Evans is for The Edge and Bellamy is for Matt ^^
I think that that was a very judgemental statement. I don't even know who you're talking about, I'm here for Lacey Sturm... not U2 or Bono... I came here to listen to her. So reading your comment I must say that you should probably watch your tongue, and not be so quick to judge and accuse with such criticism. That is all.
Lacey Sturm remains to be the best female vocalist that ever lived. I'm sorry, but the new vocalist could never even hope to be half as amazing as Lacey.... Talent as different as this doesn't come even once in a decade.
i guess the flyleaf girls voice is more pretty or whatever than bonos but i dont think u2 are performing with less feeling..i mean bono wrote the song himself so it obviously means something to him. i think ur just judging how much feeling u think theyre putting into it by what their voices sound like... HEY WAIT... does ur username have anything to do with matthew bellamy
OH i misunderstood you. i thought you were saying that when U2 sings it, there is no feeling. but you meant that this version doesnt have as much feeling as U2's version. haha ok i totally agree. sorry for misunderstanding you....... and rock on muse!!!! i got tickets for their concert in my town and im so excited. love ur username too. :)
Um.. earth to you... Christian and Roman Catholic are two different religions. The word/name Christian literally means "Christ Follower". The Roman Catholic Church has a completely different understanding of biblical times.
Ummm... You do realise that U2 are a band of devout Roman Catholics from Southern Ireland, right? In fact, they are the biggest God-fearing band in the world. Have you heard their other songs?
Alright cover. My mother got me into U2. I love this band. Im 30. When I was a kid we saw the pop tour in Canada, it was incredible. Love this band. Love my momma. Peace, Mikey
One of the reasons would be because the song works better as a stripped back acoustic. Just check out U2's live version.......this is probably why Bono almost always perform the song live acoustically. They most certainly know the true strength of the song.
