Did I miss a 2021 trend? Do you need me to react to it?! Let me know! (Also! These trends are based on highest increases in RU-vid Searches for 2021 versus 2020!)
Can we talk about that broccoli f-boy perm? You know the young ones buzzing the sides but keep the top this floppy curly mess and it's supposed to be cute. I don't get it 🤨
Omg I felt validated when JVN said that the “wolf cut” was just a shag 😂 I feel like people are forgetting what mullets look like and confuse mullet with shag all the time.
RIGHT? I’m like Billie is just rocking an epic timeless Christine McVie and I AM LIVING FOR IT. (Except for the fried color. Oh JVN what can we do to help her? Can I FedEx her mayonnaise??)
I thought he was going to sugarcoat the BIllie one, but nope lmao. “Billie has all the money in the world and that’s how good they could get it.” JVN is an angel but this shaaaade 😂😂
I dunno, if I see a person like her with yellow hair, I can only assume it cost 800 dollars and was totally intentional. It probably came out platinum at first and she was like "No! I said yellow!"😂
I think goddess locs got a ton more popular lately, but yeah, box braids are an eternal staple that have not gone anywhere and will not be going anywhere
I didnt know dolphin skin was a thing but after years and eyars of crusty, matte skin/makeup I LOOOOOOOVE a balmy, hydrated (but not sweaty looking) look. Considering that most people's skin issues are due to lack of hydration/needing to repair/maintain their moisture barrier, we should be keeping dolphin skin forever
RU-vid is full of videos right now of people with greasy looking skin following that trend. I have to take a tissue to my monitor every time one pops up. It's not glow, it's Crisco.
I think is a way to try to normalize oily skin. The problem is when people apply things that make their skin more greasy. Applying oils to skin and going into the sun it's a no no! Keep moisturized but stay away from oily!
I don't care about fashion trends, I'm just here because JVN puts a big smile on my face! Thanks for brightening up my evening with your adorable cuteness!
plenty aren´t fashion trends bur cultures styles. there is a lot of imitation and culture vulturism going on. and naming us and our cultures eras that have nothing to do with us and our eras.
I love that he called out the wold cut for what it is. A shag. Every older hairdresser I've talked to about the wolf cut just laughs that people are calling it that instead of a shag
omg i agree soooo hard about dolphin skin. Its literally gotten to the point where some people look actually wet and greasy. its gonna be one of those things in a couple years time that people will really cringe about...
A lot of these I definitely don’t see as 2021 trends. Some things NEVER go away. Buzz cuts for example. My opinion on buzz cuts is that it doesn’t go in and out of style. It’s always there, but it’s usually confined to women in their late teens/early to mid twenties. It’s like a finding yourself/coming into your own. And also kind of a “if not now, then when?” situation.
Right? If a young lady rocks a buzz cut, everyone assumes she's hip and cool. But if a middle aged woman rocks a buzz cut everyone just thinks she's on chemo.
My son is mixed (white, black & Native American) He was so disappointed that he didn't get freckles and curly hair like his dad and half sisters. So he puts freckles on with makeup. His skin is more like mine and I do not freckle. I think it's such an odd trend but fully support people embracing their natural freckles and skin.
I know several people that have met JVN in person and have all been consistent in saying that he truly is one of the sweetest and humble people. As I watch these videos I understand why people say this. You really are a rare gem JVN. Stay kind and humble.
I feel the same about the Mullett, it’s all shades of 80s metal and cock rock with a dash of My Achy Breaky Heart… Nothing made you look more dated entering the world of flannels and Soundgarden and Nirvana than rocking a mullet or rat tail in the early 90s… There are just some things I cannot un-train this teenage mindset to re-think 😂😅
I love how trends that are kind of opposite each other are still met with super positivity! Thank you for being such a loving and kind presence, and so encouraging to everyone to live their best life, in their own beautiful skin!!
As someone with freckles, I have a hard time with the faux freckle trend. It took me a long time to love mine after years of being asked about them and teased for them. So for people to have gorgeous skin pretend to have them makes me a bit irked. Like they somehow didn't earn them. I know it's weird haha.
my freckles are generally pretty similar to the ones that people put on with makeup, so now a lot of people think mine are fake and it's mildly upsetting lmao.
When I was a little girl, my mom totally left my waist length box braids in for like 3mo at a time every time, and my natural hair was HUGE!!!!!! I wore it out in its natural state for Christmas and Easter and pretty much that’s it lol. It was very signature and easy to style and roll out of bed in the morning as a 9yr old. I got to pick my hair bows to match my socks 🤷🏾♀️ it was a uniform
I bought all of Jonathan’s hair products and they literally saved my hair and my sanity. My hair was a huge candy floss mess and now it looks red carpet ready. Thank you so much Jonathan xo P.S: Air dry cream is so amazing and the smell omg love
My love I keep box braids in for 3-5 months and my hair is shoulder length. I’ve been doing this since I was 8. It depends on your hair and how you care for it.
You complement everyone all the time , that should be a beauty trend ALL the time! Your sweetness is an inspiration! Thank you for being such a breath of fresh air.
Omg Jonathan is as always sooooo positive and kind and even the criticism is on point and just wisdom, not like his own opinion but mere good sense 🤯 love love love ❤️
That was so fun with the interaction with your director and staff. 😀💕The selections of stays were fun and the go's were spot on. Dolphin skin - never heard of it and since it's now been selected for an outgoing I don't need to know, thanks for that! Loveya ~a fan 🌹💖
I've been so traumatized at the hands of low-rise denim. I'm already terrified that it's coming back lmao. My flared jeans are back though, so I guess I'm trendy again lol
It’s box braids being considered a 2021 “trend” when they’re a cultural protective style in the black community that’s literally been around since B.C./ancient Egypt, but became popularized again in the early 90’s and has been since🥴
@@fartgirl6284 Except they haven't? I don't think they were any more popular in 2021 vs the last 5 years. I think they slapped it in there to try to be more inclusive?
@PARADOXsquared that's so interesting to hear you say that, because I feel like some of the black community has stated that in previous decades they had to straighten their hair or make it look more Caucasian to be accepted. That being said, i would definitely say it's become a trend (more mainstream) in the past decade to rock natural hair and protective styles.
my only issue with no makeup-makeup is that it should never be considered the laziest, lowest standard make up for 'chill girls' or whatever. thats relegated to those of us who dont wear it at all haha
literally the only makeup I wear is a little bit of eyebrow pencil on one side to cover a scar that goes through my brow in a weird place and thats only because its easier than answering 60000 questions a week about from the kids I work with. More people should go completely barefaced imo
I hate how no makeup makeup is pushed. Like fine don’t wear makeup or wear lipgloss and mascara. Fine but stop acting like pushing me a whole line of cosmetic is effortless and no makeup. It’s just makeup makeup marketed with the cool girl who has flawless skin. So obnoxious
One of my best friends has face tattoos and he’s honestly one of the only people I’ve seen that can actually pull it off but he’s also really creative and talented so it’s no surprise to me. Although I do get nervous sometimes when he talks about adding more because he does have a very pretty face. But to each their own and it’s his money!! Lol
As a fellow hairdresser I agree on all fronts. I love mullets and shags so much! And as an Ashley, let me tell you that rude comments are not allowed from us this upcoming year (at least I won't be) love youuuu byeeeeeee
Since fashion and trends repeat themselves, Can you please react to vintage fashion/hair trends as well? (Like the 1940s, 1950s, 1960s. etc) We would love to see it! Love Ya
Yes, thank you for calling out the wolf cut as a SHAG. But I feel that they had to bring out the name wolf cut and call a shag a wolf cut from now on because for years I’ve been saying I have a shag cut, and people would meanly say that I have a mullet as if it were an insult, but it’s more of an insult on them because they are stupid and mullets are fierce ☝🏻 I most definitely have always had a shag. So I’m OK if the kids want to call it a wolf cut, but I really wish people would know their history 😂
I love this. But please let us not cancel all facial tattoos. Some people are reclaiming their ancestral origins through ceremonial facial markings that were previously banned or demonized by colonization or other forms of oppressive regimes. Love you
Or let US not let other people tell us what needs to be cancelled. Do what works for you. As a Black woman, I will never let someone, especially outside of my culture tell me what needs to be cancelled.
I don't think I've seen Jonathan since watching season one of Queer Eye whenever that was... (yes, I live under a rock). Can I just say Jonathan has a sense of inner peace now and it's making me so happy. Usually Hollywood does the opposite but damn... good for u.
I AM SCREAMING!!! THANK YOU FOR SAYING IT'S A SHAG omggggg the arguments I've had with people over this!!! It's also like not even a typical shag, it's like between being a shag and just a regular damn long layer haircut! I know this. I SPECIALIZE in shags and mullets OKAY
I mean, I understand it being based on the shag, but the fact you say it's "not even like a typical shag, but a cross" with something else kind of goes against only calling it a shag. I feel like calling it a shag brings up a very different image that the people who call it wolf cut aren't going for
@@aff77141 From what I've seen working in a high school, and seeing the way kids are cutting their own hair to achieve a "wolf cut" , yes, they are sporting a shag cut. Except it's brushed back away from the face rather than forward, which is how a shag is generally styled. The layers are slightly longer as well but the CUT is basically done the same exact way. Concave layers. Shorter layers at the top with longer length from the occ down. It's just another trend that the younger gen is re-naming to make it not feel like they're just cutting their hair into the same style their parents had in the 70's/80's.
@@ktiitfa2491 You're right, I keep forgetting these kids' grandparents* were the ones in the 70's. My mom was in h.s. in the 80's. And I'm not imitating anything? In my avatar I have a headband on because of the extensions I had in 😂🙃 Not that I really need to explain myself but 🤷🏻♀️ I wanted to cover up the obvious disconnection.
Love the positive vibes just radiating from JVN at all times. And please don't try to bleach your hair after dying it black, that advice is Solid and Universal.
@@alexare7948 sadly the best way is to grow out the black then bleach your natural hair only. Stripping the colour out is really difficult with black, and the lighter your hair was to start with the worse condition your hair will be in when it's done.
Anyone else click this because Billie Dawn Webb was in the thumbnail?? Love JVN and Queer Eye and it was such a pleasant surprise to see Billie D.W.'s face!
Yes please! Women should not be expected to have a full face of makeup at all times or at work. We should all be able to accept our gorgeous faces the way the are :)
Gorgeee- can you PLEASE do a video on how you got such incredible curl in your beautiful hair?! Love you - another fun episode! ❤ Congrats on your shows and your channel!
And once again, fabulousness! I agreed with most, but the mullet. Then again, I’m all about “you do you”, and there’s nothing more on trend than that! ❤️
Jonathan, somehow the magic of the universe recommended your channel to me. I needed it. I consume way too much news and I’m anxious about the future. And I needed to laugh and relax. You bring the world such genuine happiness. You truly do. I subscribed because i don’t want the magic to end 😘
