I like how the hardest difficulty is called Arcade Mode. Such a perfect term for a a level of difficulty that could only be more suitably summarized as _unfair bullshit_ mode.

This is more like a very well made Neo-Geo or Sega Saturn sprite based game.

Definitely a lot of Neo-Geo aesthetic going on here. The main character sprite is a little on the small side though, which is more typical of 16-bit games.

This looks *awesome* I could see myself replaying this over and over. Also, some of the uses of the zipline remind me of some of the uses of the ninja staff in Maui Mallard in Cold Shadow

Only watch 1 minute of the video but already added to steam wishlist. Somehow sold me on not having checkpoints. Endurance isn't something we get challenged enough on these days.

you should give UNSIGHTED a try! it came out around the same time and one of the few indie games that captures what makes dark souls good in a way few other dark souls inspired games have

Really great review; I loved it. Steel Assault looks like something I'd enjoy spending some time with but I'll have to add it to the Wishlist for now. With Dread so close on the horizon, I'm just trying to clear my current games catalog so I can play Dread w/o worrying about other games' needs.

Addendum: I don't know if it's on GVG's docket, but I'd love to hear/see your opinions on Voice of Cards: The Isle Dragon Roars demo. That game is in second place on my wishlist right now; I really liked it but I'd like to see if others share my enthusiasm for the demo.

I beat it in 36 minutes. This game is missing a staple of its genre: hidden collectables and hidden breakable walls. Better games in this field are the Messenger, shovel knight, curse of the moon 1 and 2, cyber shadow. This really felt like an experimental demo.

@@dfilm nice. i beat the game in 40 minutes yesterday on one difficulty. i think they styled this game more like the classics though rather than the modern titles you mentioned. those are all great games, but this game is more like a mega man game. you can beat mega man 1 in less than 30 minutes but it's still a great classic that is played today. steel assault's arcade mode would give people a run for their money and is how the game was intended, i think. this game is like the old games that just increases difficulty to offer more content, but that's why i think it's a great game. they stayed true to their style, with the 16bit graphics, the gameplay area ratio, and the overall style of the pace. playing it on anything less than expert or arcade mode probably isn't as fulfilling of an experience. thanks for reading cheers man.

Agreed. It needs optional tough sections for bonus pickups, and some kind of score or grade system. A report card of sorts that tracks various accomplishments through the game would be cool. The game is as lean as a schoolchild living off of cat food. There’s absolutely nothing extra in the game, and the levels are very straightforward, barely pushing the parameters of the characters move set. That said, it’s gorgeous as hell and very fun.

On Very Easy you can pass it in 20min. In Highest Difficulty, it will take you a week or more

I wish the Arcade Mode had a better balancing. It’s way too cheap to offer any replay value, and the campaign only lasts for an hour, with no secrets, no unlockables, no scoring or leaderboards. It’s a good game but also something you’ll finish and forget in an afternoon.

I think this game was a huge missed opporntunity. Its so extremely short with very little replay value. There are litearlly only 3 pickups in the game, a shield, health and energy which makes your whip shoot projectiles. There are also no collectibles, or cool hidden secrets. Nothing to keep you coming back to the game to get that higher score or 100% the game. Compared to a game like Huntdown this one really falls flat.

Good barebones game. Very very short. Looks, plays, and sounds great but not a lot here. 3.5 out of 5.

Hearing that the game is short and difficult, while also lacking a 16:9 ratio is just quite frankly is just gross, especially for the price they are asking for. The graphic looks nice and had it been longer in length and had an easy accessible mode with a 16:9 ratio, I would have brought it. 🤔
