Man you can find them at least it was ? A little better then the last video but man I don’t know what is wrong with people now days with you tube there are so many videos to show people how to do it right And I am telling this it took them just as long to do it wrong as it would to do it right. Thanks for the video keep us informed what the military guy is going to do on the last job that was massed up Thanks

Just when you think you’ve seen it all…the covered valleys are another first for me lol Good stuff

Brian, I was taught long time ago to screw the panels down thru the panel ridge, then later was told by another respectable source to screw down thru the flat part. The reason given for using the flat part was that screwing thru the ridge can deform the panel. Both ways seem to work fine. What say you ?

I've been told by an engineer that worked for a vicwest dealer that they want it screwed through the flat. That's how I did my place and my parents was done with it through the ribs 5 months prior. We'll see which holds up better to the test of time

@@Beandiptheredneck the guy that taught me to screw thru the rib explained that likelihood of a leak at that point was minimal due to it being on a raised portion of the panel. But it takes a great deal of care to sink each screw to near perfection to ensure a solid seal between the head of the screw and rubber washer. Too much and you will deform the panel. But the other guy made a good argument to the contrary. You can screw the fastener in to the flat with slightly more force guaranteeing a solid seal, while not worrying at all about deforming the panel. I've actually done both same as you, and have no issues either way.

@RCing in SC the issue that was presented to me was that in the ridge it's more apt to twist and pull on the screw as the years go by, and either cause then to loosen or break off. I've seen it done both ways and neither seems to really be better. I just did mine on the flats because that's what I was used to doing from work

@@Beandiptheredneck flats are definitely easier .

I have done it both ways also but we do ours in the flat also we noticed that if you screw the screw just a little to tight when you get on the ground out from the house the middle of the panel was not completely laying flat kind of buckled up just a little. But the you have to worry about high winds will most definitely buckle the panel even worse because there is nothing holding the flat down. If your any where near the coast you really never want to screw just in the high rib. Also like you stated over time the screw will loosen up faster and can and will break I actually fixed a roof like that but it wasn’t the whole just about 10 screws are so and they where only on one side I’m guessing that was where most of the winds where coming from. I tell you the lack of knowledge that some people have they can really make a mess and what’s bad is they want even ask for help that’s what crazy most of us older me for sure have no problem helping some one and showing them. I can’t do all the jobs and don’t want to but I will show you what I know if you just ask. How you say ask the supply house I promise they know some one that will show you for sure. Thanks for the videos keep them coming

Sheets cut short on both ends. Laid over shingles. My advice would be pull it down to deck and redo it properly. There is nothing you could do that is going to guarantee a good life span. I mean simply put, screw in the valleys, with OSB and shingle underneath. There is no chance you can convince me that those screws won't back out with heat expansion. And OSB isn't exactly renowned for holding a thread.

I went over an existing shingle roof on my Mom’s place. I never worked with it until then but I have roofing and carpentry experience. I installed a baton system and even built out some roof sagging when I did because I didn’t want sheets kinking or creasing when I sucked them down. I just studied the material and all the parts available well first and considered water flow always as installing. Used butyl rubber caulk and tape as a precaution where I thought it wouldn’t hurt. I also predrilled screw patterns because I didn’t like how the self tappers were catching and warping the metal making it jagged for the rubber washer to seat. It also prevented lift off of the top sheet on overlaps. I used the valley overlays in addition to the w and I think they’re ok if there are no trees nearby and the roof isn’t debris prone. I capped the ends with corner L’s and it’s all really clean and tight looking. I also measured everything out before ordering and had it all custom cut and I would recommend that if one can to avoid rough edges like he says. I shouldn’t ever have to get on my Mom’s roof again and that was the idea lol. I like the stuff and liked working with it. I spent probably about the same on material if I had done shingles. They’re a good investment.

Nice! Those shingles have to go somewhere nice to just leave them alone. As long as you're not coving a problem.

As far as that boot goes, you can get away with that sideways slit, just use a scrao piece to slide under the top and over the bottom, youre essentially creating an extra overlap so that it all runs over. Not the prettiest way to do it. Personally i would just spend the time to make sure the pipe lands on a joint so its easy to work with

You didn't address regular rubber boots going over vents how to properly attach to roof if its ribs are there ? Thanks maybe another video. Good video stay safe !

That valley is something.. although I completely disagree about making the bottom edge straight. I would always rather see the panels straight to the most visible gable, even if that creates a stair step at the bottom, the gutter hides that for the most part anyways.

Does the heating of shingles under the metal roof break down the shingles and so destroy it as an underlayer?
@highmarkroof
@highmarkroof Год назад
Get high heat underlayment. if you're low on funds get 30 weight over Synthetic

This style of metal roof is crap! I repair these all the time, rubber washers dry out and erode after 8 to 10 yrs and then continuous problems! I'll take a shingle roof any day!
