I find it insane that Pittsburgh, Cleveland and Cincinnati are all talking about new/renovated stadiums. It feels like we just went through this a few years ago all got new stadiums.
As a Steelers fan since 1996, I 100% agree. I actually did not think Three Rivers was that bad yes it was most definitely dated at the time of demolition, but on the grand scale of things, it was so bad. In terms of the current Stadium & I am not using any comecical name no matter what the company is that is doing the sponsorship I dont see the need at this time to do anything to it at all. But I think of anything it gets some relatively minor upgrades & dont expect anything earth-shattering to be done like a retractable ruff I think that would be stupidly expensive & I dont see really how it would actact other events not like The Burgh is going to ever host a Super Bowl it's just not going to happen ever, unfortunately. I am Scottish. I absolutely love The Burgh & Steelers in particular.
That's why I think renovation is the option & I dont think we are talking about retractable ruff or anything crazy like that I think we are talking about minner renovations at most. Like myb restrooms food & beverage facilities WI-Fi within the stadium up grades that type of thing new seats perhaps not expecting any crazy.
The roof ain't happening, especially in a city whose fanbase loves the cold weather atmosphere and my contact in Pitt says most people have zero desire for a dome.
@@VSNVanny He only reads livestream comments. But even that doesn't matter because when you criticize him he either calls you an NPC, troll, or AI. He does that even if you're right lol
I wouldn't be shocked at all if Pitt tries to get out of Heinz Field, attendance has gotten better in recent years but a program with such history and a school that size can do much better. They may try and build something in Oakland but I still don't think its likely, Steelers really like the stadium and given its location who can blame them? Probably some sort of renovation soon though
Exactly. The only reason they got Heinz Field was due to state money. No way they are building a new stadium and I’d shit if they put $300 million into renovations.
The (macro) economy is pretty solid. It’s cost of living that’s hurting voters - combination of inflation costs passed to consumers and price gauging. Inflation is actually improving, but companies won’t drop prices to pre-inflation figures until demand slumps.
@@william7286spot on prices always go up they never come back down. There are pauses if they control inflation. Stopping all these absurd wars would help.
People that are surprised about this need to realize that this business is a competition, not just on the field, but in every way imaginable. Teams with perfectly reasonable stadiums see other teams getting these space age looking, futuristic looking stadiums, and suddenly their stadium looks kind of plain by comparison. Don’t think that’s not playing into all of this. With every generation of stadiums it raises the bar for architecture and beauty.
The Steelers and some of the fan base has the old way of thinking. They try and hide it in the form of “Tradition” but call it what it is, being cheap. From not wanting to pay players, outdated locker rooms and amenities!
As a Pittsburgher I can guarantee there would be riots if the Steelers were moved to the burbs. My family has had season tickets since 3 rivers, and would be outraged if the move happened. Also, I don't agree with the adding of a roof, but I could see the owners doing that to gain more attraction to the stadium. All I mean by that is adding more non football events. Plus, it is still Heinz Field, F what the sign says.
I dont really think we need a roof, im sure it would look cool but building one would be pointless, we don't get a super ton of snow like Buffalo or extreme cold like KC, plus the view of the city from even the upper decks are super awesome
@@Mck499 I completely agree, before my dad's season tickets got upgraded they were in the upper deck. The view and feel of the game from up there is amazing. A roof would ruin that and the vibe wouldn't be the same. Only reason my dad changed to lower area is bc he has bad knees and didn't want to walk all the way up there anymore.
There's absolutely nothing wrong with Pittsburgh's stadium. The Steelers have such diehard fans, they would have been fine still playing at Three Rivers. It's like Packers fans: Steelers fans don't need all the bells and whistles; they are there to watch a football game.
I will tell you why all these owners are rushing for new stadiums they see the no vote in SD a few years ago and the KC no vote recently and think they better try while they still can. I really think people are waking up to this idiocy. Public funds do nothing but put it on the backs of taxpayers. These deals never work out well for the cities no matter what anyone says. Vikings are really the model if the owners want help. The city and state backed the bonds advanced some of the money but the team was responsible for paying them back. In fact the Vikings paid all the bonds off early and now they own the building outright and the city has no further obligation.
Renovations, possible. New stadium- no chance it's happening for the Steelers. They have a prime downtown location right on the river. Now Pitt on the other hand might look at something smaller.
Been a Rams fan since 1976 and I call the Stadium in Pittsburgh my favorite in the NFL. Modern but very OLD SCHOOL. I love the open end zones and REAL grass. It's a simple design. Owners have lost their freaking minds with BILLION + stadiums that are sterile as hell. The NFL needs to cut it out with all the bells n whistles on stadiums and holding Cities for RANSOM. Fans packed stadiums when there was nothing but metal bench seats and electric light bulb sore boards. Put a GOOD product on the field and charge less than a car payment for a nose bleed and fans will be thrilled.
Beautiful location. I hope they can conduct a major renovation without significant disruption to regular season play. Pitt Football desperately needs an on-campus stadium to remain competitive.
Cincinnati’s Renovation is going to be much more than 300 million. That figure came from a proposal from the bengals in which the county has already rejected. It was 300 million for the next phase of renovations then there would be another phase, with the project totaling about 600+ million
Renovation might do the stadium some good as long as artificial turf is part of the plans, its been 17 years or so since that mnf mud bowl game took place
I always thought Heinz Field was ugly. Those yellow seats are just hideous, has a bad playing surface, little to small considering the relative success of the team. If it had some black seats to go with the yellow probably would look a lot sharper.
LMFO at yellow seats. So every time someone gets up to get a beer everyone can see the empty seat on TV. The seats should be charcoal grey like club levels. It looks like a trash high school stadium right now.
They need to get the Pitt Panthers out of there and get some money raised and build them a nice sized college stadium. The Steelers just needs a modern renovation for Acrisure Stadium.
@@andrebailey6676 Schenley Park has space. I know North or South Oakland is limited at the moment, but things can change in a few years. Maybe it just me, but I ain't a fan of college and pro teams sharing stadiums. Outside of a big name school or a rival, when have you seen Acrisure, Hard Rock in the MIA or the Linc in Philly full of fans for college games?
@@LoweDown414 yeah me neither I'm not a fan of that either I feel like these colleges should be able to raise the money to build these college stadiums
This place was under built at the time it was done and has not aged well. PNC Park is much better and the Pens also have a newer place. If I had to guess they will swap out the upper decks and push them back to open up the concourses to the field.
I live in Pittsburgh - im one street away from the stadium on Western Ave. There is no talk of a new stadium. That would involve city meetings that would be open to the public. Not to mention they recently renewed a commitment with the T (subway) to remain free from town to the stadium for 10 more years. Please do better. I feel like every time i come here its bc of Biden/Trump misinformation or something like this. I know youre still a kid who lives at home and cant get a gf but you have a lot of followers.
Owner see the tied turning against public funds for these things, they see the Raiders with their brand new publicly funded building and want one also. I think they see the KC vote, the SD vote both voting no and thinking we better try when we can.
It is there stadium they paid some of their cash and used the the State funds for a new place. They pulled everything with The Steelers. Rooney has said they need $200-$300 Million to renovate the amenities for the teams mostly and some seat changes etc. They said they will never want a dome. Yes it is cheap. But one of the bear bones factors is that is just for game day only. All offices and all player facilities are across the river, Oh and they players really want a major upgrade to the family area. Pitt had to move off campus because there was NO room to move to. And they desperately need the land their field was on. It was so bad an option was to build it OVER a hollow link a bridge, From building on campus you can see the stadium AND there practice facility
Wtf? No. Absolutely not. I'm not funding a new stadium for the steelers. I live in New kensington and been here my entire life. I love the steelers, but acrisure stadium is fine as it is. It's legendary. Championships were won here. My brother's and my friends played on that field and won wpial titles there. Those grounds are hallowed. Far too much personal blood sweat and tears to rennovate it with something super duper unnecessary like a roof. And again Pitt is NOT going anywhere either. Sure it has its flaws as a college ball stadium, but theres A. No where else for them to play and B. Pitt was a key contributor to making this stadium happen. And C. None of them own the stadium out right and are locked into an iron clad lease. So... No. Its fine just the way it is.
Should maybe improve the fassade to make it look like a steel factory. Maybe the parts you don't see (like more space inside the catacombes), but should keep the open great design.
I would argue that Pitt feels more at home than the Steelers do. Take a peek at the locker room situation, and you’ll see that Pitt’s blows the Steelers’ out of the water. Team amenities and facilities for the Steelers are almost at a bare minimum, with a LOT more care and effort given to Pitt
Heinz Field has another 10 years at least. A renovation will do nicely though, hopefully they put in chair back seats on the top deck behind the North end zone. When the Steelers do eventually move out the top decks could be torn down somehow and Pitt could just use the bottom bowl portion of the stadium as a base for their next stadium. I think that would be a pretty good size for them, however I think one closer to campus would be better.
The KraftHeinz Company, Heinz division Field sounds better than Acrisure, LLC Stadium. 😳🙄🤦♂️ The KraftHeinz Company is owned 26.5% owned by Berkshire Hathaway, Inc. (Warren Buffett's company), the parent company of GEICO Insurance. 😁🤦♂️
I can't see the happening, fans in Pittsburgh love the open style of Heinz Field and the amount of money it costs to build a enclosed stadium wouldn't be worth it in Pittsburgh, we don't get a ton of snow like Buffalo or extreme cold like KC, Pittsburgh winters are almost always a bit chilly with a little bit of snow very rarely do we get alot of snow anymore
It’s pretty amazing that so many teams got their stadiums built in late 90s - 2000s, seemed like it was just yesterday. Now we’re talkin’ big renovations or new stadiums. 😬
Upgrade if anything, but I dont expect any maga renovations like a retractable ruff. I dont see that is going to attract any events of a mega scale, not like we are ever doing to be a Super Bowl host city now is it. One thing I think will definitely happen is a Steelers home game in Dublin during the regular season at Croke Park I think that is definitely on the cards & something ownership are very much activity looking at from what Art Rooney II has sead on out media in The U.K.
ok here's the news for ya: all NFL teams that haven't had brand new stadium in the past 10 years and not based in Texas, are either building a new stadium or getting reconventions, most won't come to fruition duo to bad economy and owners not paying for it
Long time Steeler fan and have lived in Pittsburgh and I have never been that impressed with Heinz Field. Just no real wow factor. I think they should fill in the one end zone all the way around with seating. Imagine coming out of the tunnel and seeing just a wall of gold seats!
I work at the Field and honestly the way the new Stadiums are being built it would be better to build a new Stadium I mean not to sound rude but our Stadium does look old like the design is outdated the concrete is tearing throughout and the subway system to the field is small and slow if Pittsburgh ever wants to be a host to major events get over Acrisure and build something newer and nicer with a dome that way we have a chance at hosting a Super bowll
Would not be shocked if they did build a stadium and new practice facility in cranberry twp. Penguins just put in their headquarters there and it's extremely easy to get to with i79, i279, and the turnpike. Also most of the players live in that area.
Cleveland Stadium was old af as was Baltimore's Memorial Stadium, but Riverfront and Three Rivers were only about 30 years old when they were replaced. Yes, they were the dreaded multipurpose donuts, but still. These things had a shelf life of 30 years. The Vet too. And Foxborough Stadium, although not multipurpose, was insanely cheap and needed replacement Arrowhead, Highmark, Lambeau. These are the exceptions. Highmark will be gone in 2 years. Arrowhead has had a huge retrofit and might still be replaced. Lambeau has been totally retrofitted and GB wouldn't build new.
Yeah, Pitt only really needs a 40,000 seats stadium the Steelers stadium is only useful to them when they’re playing a big opponent draw like Penn State or West Virginia

They have to be crazy suggesting in roof in Pittsburgh.Blue collar built this nation,Steeler football meant to be played in the elements..New stadium or renovation adding more seats yes, roof hell no
Sports teams in general do not care about blue collar workers, these new stadiums are built for the luxury boxes and catering to those that think going to a game is the in thing to do.
If my Steelers get a new stadium… please get a dome and astroturf. I hate outdoor stadiums especially when it’s cold and I hate natural grass. Especially at the end of the season where the grass looks like shit with all the football games played there. High school, college, and Steelers. Just my personal opinion.
Wtf is this bullshit about every NFL team moving indoors?? Titans, Bears, Browns, and now the Steelers supposedly?? All these teams have historically played outdoors and in the elements...
I have pretty much stopped wasting time on your click bait, there are no plans to a new stadium in Pittsburgh, and year after year the Steelers and County have upgraded different amenities in the stadium on a piece meal basis because both entities KNOW taxpayers/voters soundly defeated "Plan A " to build the Steelers, Pirates new stadiums 25 years ago, and a new convention center. It cost ALL the County Commissioners/councilmen their jobs in subsequent elections. The county and teams had to be creative and go to the state to do a PLAN B to fund the 3 projects, which ironically left the Penquins out in the cold. There are and never were any plans or even statements by the Rooney's or County to build a new stadium ANYWHERE or do a major renovation to existing ones in the near future, even Art Rooney II is quoted in local news media that they are expecting no major changes to their stadium situation before 2036, when their current lease is up. The only true part of your podcast is about Pitt considering building a new football stadium on campus. While if you did any research you'd know that there is plenty of room on the North Shore of Pittsburgh to build another stadium, the site of old Three Rivers Stadium is a parking lot, and thus would easily accomodate a new facility. Ironically when they built the two new stadiums the County hoped to create a stadium district between them with restaurants, night clubs and sports related activities, but those attempts to get a developer have been failures. So the desire of either team to demand a new stadium / location for a stadium district is not going to happen, especially in a city that lacks large areas of level land for such a large complex. Pitt cries that they have poor attendance because they tore down Pitt Stadium 30 years ago to build their current sports /basketball arena, and a Google Earth view of the campus area will show you that there is no open space there to accomodate a new football stadium and it's accompanying dorms, training facilities, and amenities to impress mercenaries who now play sports in big time college programs. It also has to be realized that Pitt has always been third banana regarding football in Pittsburgh after the Steelers and Penn State. The fact that their teams have not been very good for decades and gives a luke warm fanbase more reason to avoid going to games since Pitt lost a lot of their best rivalries when the Big East football conference died. They used to draw well when they played Temple, W Va, Penn State, Miami and Syracuse and all were good, fans are not excited about Virginia, Va. Tech, NC teams, Ga Tech, or Florida State. In a world of Billion dollar stadiums and voters turning sour on funding them, I do not see Pitt or the Steelers getting hundreds of mllions in public funding for stadiums in today/s political climate. I saw you threw up a couple of articles that appeared to support your click bait, but neither was given any accreditation, and I can't find any credible sources out of Pittsburgh that have even suggested the Rooneys want a new stadium or major renovations to Acrisure.
It’s about time I’m a Steelers fan and as much as I love our stadium WE NEED A BIGGER ONE we got a top 3 fan base in the nfl and we need more fans at our games
@@joedimaggio3687 70% owner 30% taxpayers I don’t think the taxpayers should have a too much of a problem cuz it’s the Steelers and we’re not awful every year
@DJDJ-iu7qr So what it's "the Steelers". If the Steelers want renovations or a new stadium that only benefits them, then let the Steelers pay for 100% of the cost and not the taxpayers.
@@joedimaggio3687 I 100% agree with you the owners should pay for renovations or new stadium but we gotta think realistically owners don’t wanna pay for everything they want to save money just look at the chiefs jaguars bears Cleveland situation the owners are being very cheap and I don’t think Rooney is gonna fully pay for a renovation or new stadium
If it hits the ballot in Pennsylvania for public money I’m gonna vote against it to be petty I hate Pittsburgh with a passion yes the East vs West PA rivalry is real
