The Steinhart Ocean One Green Ceramic 42mm is a solid watch. It is perhaps the best Submariner homage I have experienced thus far. There are unending ways to describe its solidness. This is the full objective review of the watch. #horology #steinhart #cermit #steinhartoceanone

Awesome review, love the ranking which compares the watches quite good to each other! 👌🏻 I own a Steinhart GMT 39mm in black and I can relate the points from your side. Keep on doing the reviews in this detailed way :)

Great assessment. Steinhart really is very solid and great value. I ordered the hulk. I m of a different view. I actually think the best parts are the long lugs. It makes the case elongated and unique.

In-house movements don’t necessarily make a watch better but it does strengthen the brand.

Was looking to purchase this or the double green “hulk” but then I found Tisell. I recently picked up a Tisell Marine Diver with no date and i’m planning on swapping on the black bezel with the OEM green ceramic one from Tisell to make it a kermit. So far loving the Tisell. I think I made a good choice over spending $600+ on an homage watch. Plus the Tisell is the new sub case where as the Steiny is the older 5 digit subbies.

I’ve heard great things about the Tisell. How’s the wrist feel on that one? I love the maxi case as well. Would be excited if Steinhart decided to try that styling as well. The bezel swap should be really cool, great idea!

@@StandardTime The wrist presence and overall fit for my 6.75 inch baby wrists is perfect actually. I really dig the squareness of the lugs and case on the new sub case. I’ll link a photo of it on my wrist. Although Steinhart uses Swiss ETAs, I feel as the the 90S5 is just fine for me. I don’t like to get caught up on specs most of the time. imgur.com/gallery/kSg26wu

Wow it looks great on your wrist! I can understand not caring about the movement as much when you’re buying the watch for the aesthetic in the first place.

I also have been interested in a 39mm Steinhart OVM. But then I discovered the Tisell Submersible. Its half the price of the Steiny.. But I think the Steinhart has better finishing.

Great review. I proudly enjoy my Steinharts and they share space in my watch box with my Rolex’s among others. As far as value goes I say Mido ocean star is #1 under $1000 diver, then Steinhart is #2.
@StandardTime
@StandardTime 3 года назад
Thanks man.That’s great! How does the Mido one-up the Steinhart if I may ask?
@fhaquuu

@@StandardTime Better bracelet, Links, and diver extension is amazing and functional. 80 hour power reserve. Also it has more originality and less of a rolex Homage identity. Mido is more expensive but worth it IMO. If you can afford to go to 1500$ price point thier 600m diver is a very nice option. Si hairspring and chronometer specification. Thx!

Christopher Ward is better built than Mido and Steinhart, though it lacks history.

Your title mentions value, and you give it a value of 8/10. Where do I find the pricing for perspective?
@StandardTime
@StandardTime 3 года назад
I mentioned that’s it’s priced at about 450-500 USD/Euros/Pounds. There’s a slight difference depending on currency and VAT. For example in Europe it’s priced at €440 new on steinhartwatches.de.

For me the dealbraker is the yellowing of the bezel lume (the triangle at 12 hours). For me that's not aesthetically pleasing to have different colors on the bezel so at the moment I skip this watch. Until they fix this problem.

Nice vid! What are your thoughts on the San Martin Water Ghost (Subby Hommage)? Which one would offer the most value in their pricepoint? Thanks!
@StandardTime
@StandardTime 3 года назад
Thanks for watching! Whilst I have not got first hand experience of the San Martin, I am well aware of the level of quality they offer at the $€£ 200 price point. However, they all use NH-35s. So if you’re going for a fun budget watch that you don’t intend on having as your one main watch maybe it’s more sensible to get a San Martin. If you’re looking for a Swiss made tank that if it weren’t a homage could actually be priced close to $€£ 2k that would be the Steinhart. Personally I think there’s more value with the Steinhart but I get that it’s a bigger commitment as well.

Are the numbers on the bezel engraved or is everythink flat like the older aluminum version?
@StandardTime
@StandardTime 3 года назад
If I recall correctly, it's a flat ceramic bezel insert. Smooth on the surface, no engraving.
@PaulWinkle
@PaulWinkle 3 года назад
@@StandardTime Strange, Steinhart tells me now it is engraved. I was asking them about the Pepsi ceramics. To be honest it doesn't look engraved on videos or pics. It is "funny" if it is not engraved, cause if someone wants it to look like the original, it would be better to buy aluminum, cause the elder Rolex were just like that, not engraved on aluminum.
@StandardTime
@StandardTime 3 года назад
I think I might be wrong then. It is possibly lightly engraved. I don’t have the watch anymore, hence the lack of clarity.
@PaulWinkle

@@StandardTime On some vids\pics it looks engraved on most others it doesn't. Well however, thanks for the fast reaction.

From reviewing some of my pictures of it on Instagram, in sunlight there seems to be a very small shadow implying that it’s lightly engraved.

The fun fact about the dial is if it doesn’t look like the "original", less people (probably including you) would even buy it, despite the possible "Steinhart original" design. Added: Expecting "Originality" when buying homages is probably a bit off..

Best Sub Hommage in my opinion (with a lot of experience with them) is the San Martin Whater Ghost. Can be had for $160-170 in sales and is as good, and certainly better in some places in terms of fit, finish and overall build quality in comparison with the Steinhart. The Steinhart has the much better movement, that's for sure, but who really cares, when a NH35 can be easily adjusted to be within COSC?
@StandardTime
@StandardTime 3 года назад
I’ve got to try that watch. Can’t imagine something to be of higher quality than the Steinhart. Although that said, the movement is still a huge plus for the Steinhart as NH-35s are dime a dozen in comparison to the Sellita. Also the Steiny is made in Switzerland so you get that. Can’t say which is the better watch yet without trying the San Martin though and it seems to be a steal at $160.

The Saint Martin might be good in terms of specs and cheap as chips, but the QC of chinese watches is poor to non existent, which means they are very hit or miss. That - and the fact they are made in sweat shops - is why they're cheap. There are many accounts of issues found. The watch you actually receive could have aesthetical or mechanical problems and the brand will probably not give you assistance in any way. Also, they cut corners in ways casual buyers don't notice in order to reduce costs - misaligned dials and cyclops, unregulated movements, unevenly milled cases and bracelets, dust leftovers inside the dial and case, bezels which rotate poorly... Like I said, very hit or miss. I also wouldn't risk actually diving with a SM, I doubt they have 100m WR, let alone 200 or 300. Which kind of defeats the purpose in a diving watch.

Your reasoning on the score of the movement is terrible. You gave that movement a 6 are you kidding a 6. And you said because it was not in house Witch has nothing to do with the quality of the movement. And so if you got a $100 seiko 5 that comes with that cheap 7s no hack & no hand wind . So if I use your reasoning this would be an in-house movement Salt Lake would be better than the one that’s in the stighnheart would you give that movement a 8 . Should really Reevaluate your thinking
@ceantukes1803

You are spot on with this. A 6 for that movement running within the specs that he stated at plus 1sec per day is a silly score he gave for an even sillier reason...

You have decided not to keep this watch because what other people might think. This is disappointing and shallow. All dive watches have similar designs and features but you are not the only person that feels like this. It’s sad that people are so worried about how the world perceives them.
