Summoned by researching or using Jump Drive technology, the Unbidden are extradimensional invaders that seek to eradicate and/or devour everything from our plane of existence. They invade through a rip in the fabric of space - a portal of sorts - created in a system of the empire that is researching or using the Jump Drive; destroying the portal is the only way to stop the invasion. As this portal lies at the heart of the Unbidden invasion and the system it exists within will quickly be swarming with Unbidden ships that are seeking new prey, destroying it may prove to be a significant challenge.
Still, for those empires willing to take the risk of unleashing the Unbidden, the rewards are significant. Safe access to Jump Drive technology is but one of these boons; destroyed Unbidden ships can be salvaged by a Science Ship to discover the Extradimensional Weaponry Physics technology, which grants access to powerful, high-tech energy weapons called Matter Disintegrators. These weapons have a respectable mix of range, accuracy, rate of fire, and firepower - but more importantly, they are also capable of ignoring 50% of the target's shields and armour.
The Unbidden will spawn within the space of an empire that uses any kind of jump drive technology within 200 years; developing both jump drives and psi jump drives reduces this to 20 years. An event chain can further reduce this to 16 years. Assuming none of these are true, it is possible that they may 'naturally' invade within 2,000 years assuming no other crisis has been triggered first.
Successfully repelling the Extradimensional Invaders[edit]
To successfully repel the invaders with minimal losses, send out a token fleet to destroy some of their defense stations. Reverse engineer their tech and research high tier armor and shields. Assemble a death stack with a total fleet strength above 100k and destroy the portal. Expect heavy resistance. Once the portal is destroyed, their defense stations can be destroyed and their borders will automatically recede.
