@@aoa7520 who mike tyson? His power was incredible but his technique is flawless. Not overrated at all he is without a doubt one of the greatest to ever do it
Just think Muhammad Ali Beat “2 out of the 3 most Scariest Heavy weight boxers in boxing history “ when he beat Sunny Liston and George Forman, that just let u know how great Ali was
Muhammad Ali was a very intelligent fighter. Extremely bright individual all around he said the way he beat form in the only way he could was by sticking and moving he knew if he sat still foreman would have got him
Foreman looked scary because of he’s size Mike Tyson looked like a middleweight and hit like a super heavyweight! Iron mike was terrifying in he’s time!!!
And he does it w/ such finesse and historical accuracy. It was such a pleasure to watch Max and Lampley (and I'll even throw in Merchant) for all those years on HBO! Best fight commentators of all time, imo.
Awe man. It would make you mad because you would pay money to watch 1 or 2 rounds of a Tyson match. That dude came in and took care of business. There's hasn't been a better heavyweight boxer sense Tyson in his prime.
'I never thought Tyson was the scariest in his time.' I'd love to have seen you say that to him while he was in his prime, SAS. Foreman was frightening, but I don't think anyone inspired fear like Mike did. I love hearing Max talk boxing.
Facts I saw that interview but I think he only said that cause he was older and he was still devasted that he lost to Ali which he said he never slept for two years after that fight . If the fight of Tyson and foreman took place in the 70s foreman wud probably have an advantage but hey Mike probably wud have had to go thru Ali just to get to foreman ijs
@@29mailliw everybody had over advantage of Mike. It woulda been a good fight but 70s Foreman was like Wilder. Relied too much on that 1 punch an Mike woulda had a field day with that
Foreman was the scariest Heavyweight Boxer of all time and people forget, he was also Sonny Liston’s sparring partner. Tyson is definitely up there but Foreman was just a monster, especially after he hit you. If you look at Ali after the first round, he had to change his strategy because Foreman attacked his strength and nobody thought anyone would survive attacking Foreman’s. That was the fight that everyone in his corner said that Ali was never the same in spite of the 3 year layoff.
Foreman did fight the better of Heavyweight. Look at the Heavyweight division during the 70s and 80's at one point the top twelve Heavyweight fought each other for the Heavyweight crown. When Tyson came along the Heavyweight division had lost ground to the Smaller weight class
Great discussion. I go back to the days of Marciano, so I'm quite familiar with the three scary heavyweights you're talking about. Each of them in their day was the scariest. I too was worried that Foreman would kill Ali. And if it wasn't for Ali beating him, Big George might've gone unbeaten for at least another ten years.
I was about to say Liston myself...Lol! He got beat by The Greatest of All Time, but he MUGGED his way to the title. Sonny had such an aura it comes through the film for gods sake.
@@digital-thralldom905 Liston was a real life thug. Tyson which he fully admitted was scared so he studied the likes of Liston to fake his intimidation.
you're missing the point of max... people never thought mike will ever lose when he was undefeated while george foreman was an underdog against frazier eve nif he was also undefeated, shows how much of a greater fear factor tyson has in terms of dominance
@@vanguardas9927 actually, after winning the title people wrote articles saying foreman would be champion for the next 20 years and thought it would be impossible for him to lose.
@@vanguardas9927 of course Tyson was never the underdog he always fought guys that weren't on his level early in his career. With his unorthodox style n most of his opponents were intimidated he obviously will be the favorite
Yeah he had this crazy mixture of street brawling power with excellent athleticism, head movement, and angles. Cus D'amato took him in and together they made a killer.
I remember before the Ali- Foreman fight everybody thought Ali was going to get destroyed. Foreman and Tyson had the same aura of invincibility in their times. Foreman fought 5 scubs in one evening. I remember watching that on tv. When Foreman finally lost it was to a guy far superior than Buster Douglas.
I'd say, Forman, he was knocking out heavyweight greats in devastating fashion. The only reason I give it to Foreman is because of his level of competition. I hate agreeing with Stephen A. LOL
Ikr, besides knocking out Joe Frazier and Ken Norton (who are the only ones that can beat Ali in his "prime", well not exactly his prime but you get the point) within two rounds, he also had notable wins against guys like Ron Lyle, George Chuvalo, Chuck Wepner, etc And decades past his prime beat (KO) guys like Gerry Cooney, Dwight Muhammad Qawi, Bert Cooper, Alex Steward and even Michael Moorer!!
Foreman was for sure greater than Tyson and more powerful but Max is saying the sentiment at a certain point in time - the fear was greater with Mike Tyson.
HHstutz55: Agreed, Tyson fought mostly B level fighters (when compared to the heavy weight greats like Foreman, Ali, Frazier, Norton, Holmes, Shaver, Lyle, ect) but prime Foreman fought ALL of the greats and knocked out most of them and that puts Big George above Tyson.
@Raw As I Could LOOK UP MIKE TYSONS FIGHT AGAINST SPINKS AND THE LEVEL OF FEAR SPINKS HAD TO THE POINT WHERE HE HAD TO HAVE HIS TRAINER STOP THE FIGHT BECAUSE THEY WERE WORRIED ABOUT MIKE'S GLOVES BEING TIED INCORRECTLY. COME ON MAN. ITS NOT EVEN CLOSE
Foreman was scarier than Tyson .... his size and the Caliber of fighters he was destroying... He crushed LEGENDS .... Frazier ... Ken Norton .... those guys were beast and were terrified....Tyson beat on bums... Plus Tyson had skills Foreman just walked through punches like a monster and Clubbed dudes ..... VISCIOUS
I have to disagree. Foreman was 6"5 and weighed 240 and he was a terrifying boxer to face and he did fight better competition BUT Mike Tyson was 5"11 and weighed 205 and was knocking out dudes foreman size. If you look at the fighters Tyson faced they were all taller and in some cases outweighs him by 20 pounds or more ( exp: bone crushed smith ). So that is more terrifying to me when a small man can knockout giants. You expect a big man to knockout other big men. Tyson was scarier by far!
@@robertalston793 You are real funny trying compare them big bums to Foreman because of the size. Foreman aint those clowns. He could take a punch. Only time he even got knocked down was against Ali. Thats the only time. Tyson hit the ground against some bums. Plus Tyson sounded really weird when he talked which was not scary at all.
@Qwerty Uiop I didn't say size was everything. And Mike beat Tony tubbs, Razor Ruddock, Trevor berbik , Bone crusher smith , Frank Bruno. I see you don't look at everything when it comes to fighters. As I stated before you have a man 5"10-5"11 beating guys 6"2-6"4 and those same men OUTWEIGH him by 20-25 pounds. As I stated before Ali fought better competition than Tyson BUT a little man knocking out big men impresses me more than a Big dude knocking out another big dude. Tyson unified the belts at 20 in the Heavyweight division as a small man among giants and oh by the way he was the first to unify all the belts in the heavyweight division and it hasn't been done since PEACE
I watched the Spinks fight with my Dad. He absolutely demolished Spinks. Hit him with a body shot Spinks took a knee, got up and Tyson took his head off seconds later.
My pick'd be Liston, he has a devastating punch with a very impressive reach and not to mention he had an association with the mafia . He almost never smiled on public and he knocked out ultimate good guy Floyd Patterson and not to mention that the president of the USA told Floyd to not go against the guy. Gotta respect Floyd for accepting his challenge and Ali for not being afraid of him.
lol molly sitting there like “i can’t believe they’re finally threatening my job 😔” nice and quiet with her attitude written all over her face lol. she look like she got humbled right before they started filming 😂
Before 1989 his physique was the scariest I have ever seen in boxing history and at the time if asked the question that time most I think would have said Mike. Knowing what we know now I can see why its probably 50/50 with each fighter's generation leaning that fighters way.
Liston all day..84 inch reach with bricks for hands..was like 40 ish when he fought Ali...Did'nt have to pretend he was a murderous gangter..and before Liston there were champs but not monsters.Tragic story his life.
Liston is the scariest, Jack Johnson the boldest ( in and out the ring), George Foreman and then Iron Mike. Non Heavyweight. Before he fought Sugar Ray, Roberto Duran was terrifying.
I rooted for George Foreman at age 42 in 1991 when he went against Evander Holyfield. One of my favorites back then was Riddick Bowe. He reminded me of a young Big George.
I remember watching the pre-fight coverage before Foreman-Ali and Howard Cosell, who was a great friend of Ali, was expressing extreme concern that Muhammad is in way over his head and couldn't beat George Foreman at that point in his career. Ali was 32 years old, which back in those days was really retirement age for a fighter. Ali beating undefeated 25 year old George Foreman after he had just nearly killed Joe Frazier was, as far as I'm concerned, the greatest performance in boxing history.
Because he can't it's actually comical and a beautiful thing to see I can't stand Steven A especially pertaining to combat sports don't get me wrong he has knowledge of sports but he needs to stay away from a combat sport conversation
sam nah he ain’t his said a lot off bs ESPN make him seem like one juss so they have someone who knows boxing I don’t mind him tho as he gets my hyped for fights but he is no boxing historian 😂😂
Gervonta Davis na bro. Max Kellerman’s got a ph. D in boxing history. He’s forgotten more about boxing in the last 24 hours than stephen A will ever know. Thats why he treads so lightly around max when it comes to boxing and it’s obvious 😂. Stephen A wouldnt act like if it was any sort of hype, trust me.
Foreman was a straight up monster in the early to mid 70s. Today we think of the Foreman grill and this guy that loves cheeseburgers. In the 1970s he was a shredded mass of muscle that had power unlike anything before him. I’m happy he’s transitioned to what he is but when he won the title in his 40s you could still tell underneath that smile the determination of 70s Foreman was still present. I respect that.
George Foreman: "no doubt, the scariest human being I've met in the ring" Mike Tyson: "Nobody's more intimidating than Sonny Liston, not even myself" ... Speaks for itself.
Michael Crocetto he sure was intimidating especially since he was openly mobbed up. But I believe they’re paying tribute to Liston who came before them . Same way every old time great say Joe Louis is the best fighter ever.
Cus dmato knew how bad Liston was hence he did everything in his power to stop a title shot , props to Patterson tho man stepped up and gave Liston a shot ... He had to be scared , Liston was seen as a monster !!
Sonny Liston was by far the scariest fighter in history. George Foreman said he never seen a man so angry. Mike Tyson said Sonny Liston make him look like a Girl Scout
Robin Givens seemed like she hooked up with everybody from Mike Tyson to Michael Jordan to Brad Pitt to Howard Stern. She's got range in men. Mostly the range came from their incomes.
That's old Foreman the preacher man. He always stays humble. Young Foreman would have treated Mike the way he treated Frazier and bounced his head off the canvas.
Sonny Liston was arrested over 100 times, fought over 1500 men in America's Arizona State Prison (1950's Guantanamo Bay) prison, yelled at the prison guards to bring inmates as sacrifices for his sparring sessions which ended up in prisoners either going to the morgue, paralyzed, or severely injured and often ordered 2-3 men at a time to go in the ring with him just for a light sparring session. The Prison guards started holding boxing matches for entertainment and betting who the winner was, it was estimated that Liston participated in at least 300 of them.
Look at Foremans knockout of Gerry Cooney knockouts like that answer the question Tyson through rocks at high velocity and Foreman smashed peoples heads with boulders Foreman also arguably has the greatest chin ever the shots he took at times where just brutal and it's insane that he didn't go out Holyfield landed something like an 18punch combination on Foreman and only managed to stun him the man was a human grizzly bear
Tres Maddox arguable. Ali fell a few times when u caught him clean. Frazier cooper caught him clean and he fell. Foreman only fell from exhaustion. And in the Lyle fight he wasn’t the same as he was before he fought Ali. In foreman’s return he was even tougher . Almost everyone says foreman has better chin than Ali
A77 that's when Ali was playing around and being careless but when Ali was super focussed like he was against sonny Liston in the first fight No one in history bears that Ali
I consider Mike as the scariest athelete of all time. But this statement is just not true. I was watching his Eminem interview yesterday. He seems to have found peace and his attitude is a lot more tamer. Not even remotely as scary as he once was. Prime Mike was not human.
Im born and raised in Louisville Kentucky 38 yrs old and Cus Damoto Tyson in my opinion beats him, mike had all the physical gifts you want as a boxer but Cus and Kevin Rooney was the mental edge Tyson needed just like coaches in different sports sometimes coaching beats talent which i think would be the ultimate difference in whether mike wins
@@sportstalkwithzo3707 oh really name 2 all time greatest Tyson beat in his prime ( Larry Holmes doesn't count was coming out of retirement and 38) I'll wait
Foreman was the scariest boxer of all time He had just destroyed Frazier, easily, knocking him down multiple times, before he fought Ali And Foreman was a big guy, bigger than Ali, and much bigger than Frazier 40-0, 37 KOs, bigger and stronger than you, and he just destroyed a Frazier AND Norton in 2 rounds each.....
The level of competition is absolutely laughable. George beat all time greats and Mike beat no one of any significance. Not to mention George won a tittle at age 45.
There's a interview where George Foreman himself said he didn't want any part of Mike Tyson! Those words from his mouth let me know how scary mike power was!
That's the new grill-selling Foreman being nice. He also said about Joe Frazier that he knocked him out fast because he knew if he didn't get Frazier first, Frazier would get him. Prime Foreman would have crushed prime Tyson.
Forman said he threw punches at Ali until he couldn't raise his arms and Mohammad said "Is that all out George?" And Forman said "Yea" lol. The Ali dropped him with an over hand right. The GOAT
Max is one of the best boxing analyst of all time. On covering other sports, not so much. Max is so insightful and fun to listen to when it comes to boxing.
I think Tyson being intimidating was more impressive when you consider the size difference between him & big George. People naturally tend to be more intimidated by larger people. Tyson was about the size of a middleweight, there hasn’t been a single heavyweight like Mike Tyson. He wasn’t a typical pressure fighter that was planted & had little head movement. In his prime when he was focused He was crazy fast, strong for his size (considering the division he fought in), insane angles & insane head movement that isn’t often seen in pressure fighters. That & the way he’d enter the ring added to his intimidation. His intimidation & dynamic skill made him the second biggest fighter ever behind Ali.
Tyson doesnt getting nearly enough credit as bring one of the best athletes ever while in his prime. Speed and strength obviously but his conditioning.....he barely broke a sweat in most of his fights.
George Foreman was absolutely awesome in the 1970's. But can you imagine this: Foreman ducked Jerry Quarry on 2 occasions. The first time in 1973 when Jerry beat undefeated Ron Lyle at MSG. And the second time in 1974 when Jerry knocked out Earnie Shavers at MSG in 1 round. Jerry wanted to fight for the world title against big George very much, and thought that he could actually beat the undefeated Foreman at the time. The contracts were almost signed for these 2 Championship fights, but Foreman decided he wanted none of it.... Since then in interviews Foreman has admitted that he ducked Jerry Quarry in the 1970's when he was World Heavyweight Champion. It was THE dream fight that never came off....
First time I agreed with Max. He said it well it's different when you're living through something. I remember living through the Tyson era, we thought he was unbeatable and super human. My grandfather was always like he can't be beat! In retrospect I do agree, I think Foreman is scarier.
I don't think Foreman was as scary as Iron Mike. Frazier thought that Foreman is going to be an easy job when they fought although he lose the fight. No one in boxing history was feared more than Mike Tyson. He can put, not just your carrier, but also your health and life once you step on the ring with him.
Iron Mike himself was afraid of foreman. Cus D'Amato told tyson to never go near foreman and even after cus died tyson still avoided foreman. When Don King tried to make the fight happen, tyson told King that he himself should fight foreman instead. That's fear lol
As a longtime boxing fan (I'm 73), I can testify that Kellerman is right about how Tyson was perceived at his early peak. Tyson was a great fighter, without doubt, but with better guidance might have become what he looked like for a while - the greatest heavyweight of all time.
Mike Tyson only fought two fighters who will go down as among the great heavyweights when those fighters were anywhere near their prime. Both fighters knocked Tyson out. After Heavyweight Champion Joe Frazier won the 15-round decision over Muhammad Ali, he was on the cover of Jet Magazine with the heading, "Can Anyone Beat This Man?" That's how highly regarded Frazier was. That's why he was favored to beat #8 contender George Foreman. But Foreman beat him around the ring like he was a child, so badly that Frazier--who before that walked through everybody's punches so he could land his killer left hook--ran from Foreman. Foreman put him down six times in two rounds, until the referee had to save him. Then Foreman blasted out Ken Norton, a top five contender who broke Ali's jaw, in two rounds. That's why people feared for Ali's life before their fight. Then Foreman fought a four-round war with another top contender, Ron Lyle. Lyle knocked Foreman down twice. Foreman put Lyle down twice. Lyle didn't get up from the second knockdown. If you put Tyson down, you were going to win the fight. He's good, but he wasn't made of the same stuff as Foreman.
