Gruden contract doesn't affect the salary cap. Taking his money doesn't give them more money to give Mack. Mack is to blame 100%. All he had to do was play. He was under contract. He wouldn't even take their calls. It was clear he was not going to re-re-sign after his current deal because money was all he cared about. They had to trade him.

Von Miller and Denver proved this already. Trading an All pro top 5 defender in football is only idiotic, but it hurts an already horrible defense.

You only see a guy like Mack in maybe every 15 years. Those picks won’t be Mack. Those picks will never be as valuable as Khalil Mack. The chances are VERY low.

All these people saying the raiders made a mistake and will never see a Khalil Mack ever again arent willing to put money on the bears to make the playoffs, or to even say they'll be in the playoffs over the next 4 years. Im an eagles fan, but to me the bears signing khalil Mack doesnt instantly make them a contender because we dont know how well Mitchell trubisky will play, but we did see Khalil mack play with Derek carr last year and still not make the playoffs. That means that in order for the bears to be anything better than say a 9-7 team, khalil mack has to play like the absolute best defender in the NFL and live up to his contract and Mitchell trubisky has to play lights out and bring the team to higher levels in key moments. If they do that then they'd be a 12-4 team this year and possibly run the nfc, but thats a lot of pressure to put on 2 players in general so realistically theyre still an 8-8 or 9-7 team at best and will probably miss the post season.

Brian OSullivan You're missing the point entirely. A QB is the most valuable position on a team hands down. They're what moves an offense and puts points on the board. Defensive players don't do that which is why they shouldn't get paid as much as a QB. Cris Carter even said there is no team in the NFL that is paying two players above 20 million. Why should Raiders be the exception to that rule and destroy their cap in the future? They wouldn't be able to build around Mack had they kept him because they wouldn't have any money to sign anybody and the defense would still suck because of that.
