A dynamic quarterback. Steve Young was smart, accurate, and very mobile. Sat behind Joe Montana for a few years, but proved that he was a quality player when given the chance. Steve Young won Super Bowl XXIX with the 49ers along with Super Bowl MVP. Young retired with the highest passer rating ever and amassed some great stats (33,124 passing yards, 232 passing touchdowns, 4,239 rushing yards, 43 rushing touchdowns). He was also a 7x Pro Bowler, 3x All Pro, and 2x NFL MVP to cap off a Hall of Fame Career.

Steve Young was an extremely efficient passer - leading the league in passer rating a record six times, and completion percentage and yards per attempt five times

Very nice tribute to an incredible athlete. Not only that but a team player and gentlemen. Joe Montana was all about himself. He doesn't recognize that a couple of the Super Bowls won by him occurred because Steve stepped in when he was injured and carried the team until he was well. At that point, I became a Steve Young fan.

So by doing the job of a reserve QB makes them his championships and not Joe’s? Are you kidding me? How many rings have been won where the reserve filled in a game or two? It’s a part of the game. Young’s my favorite QB but I don’t blame Joe for not admiring Young for doing what he’s paid to do. There was a rivalry between the two which made them both better and no one expected them to be best buddies

@Bravetrain13
@Bravetrain13 2 года назад
@@mull4395 well because he's one of the best ever. On a short list of best evers. But not close to being the GOAT? Best receiver. Def gets the nod from majority of people. But that's still debatable. Brady, LT, Jerry rice. In that order. But don't take my opinion serious because I don't personally think Jerry rice is the best wr ever. Moss was the most dominant ever. Defenses were more scared of Moss than any other receiver ever. And moss was more talented. Drew Brees has the best statistics of almost any QB ever. He's literally the statistical goat in a lot of ways, but we all know that's nonsense and he's not even in the conversation for top 5. Why would wr, a skill position, get judged solely based on statistics?

If you told any of them that their receivers couldn't be hit while defenseless you would have 5-6 perennial 5000+ yard quarterbacks
@johngriggsjr.2271
@johngriggsjr.2271 2 года назад
In the days of Young and Montana you couldn't make some of the throws Manning, Rodgers, and Brady make because you would be hanging your receivers out defenseless during the catch and you had some real hitters back then at safety that were looking to lay a lick on a defenseless receiver.

Tom Brady inherited a Superbowl caliber team that already had a Hall of Fame caliber quarterback that had already taken that team to a Superbowl. Brady only won the starting position because he was picked dead last and was cheaper than Drew.
@dukewilson14
@dukewilson14 2 года назад
This I don't agree with. Patriots went 5-11 the year before their Super Bowl run and had some average seasons before that. Can't say that Brady inherited a Super Bowl team (although quite a few pieces from the 1996 team were still around). Brady did work his way up to the backup job, then obviously got his chance when Drew went down. Brady kept the job, because the team was playing decent with him starting. Brady did enough in 2001 to keep the job and win a Super Bowl; by no means though was he the main reason they won (funny enough he was almost the reason that they lost with the tuck rule controversy).

@johngriggsjr.2271 Год назад
@@dukewilson14 Drew was a beast. They were missing key components some of those seasons and you had injuries in one I think but Bilichek had to build that team basically from scratch. The Big Tuna had the personnel in place at one point but he didn't get along with some of them if I remember correctly. There was a huge split over Bledsoe Brady because half of the fans wanted Bledsoe and the other half wanted Brady.

I don't see him as GOAT because he had Jerry Rice and people had to cheat coverage to try and stop him which left someone wide open almost everytime. It's the same story with Montana. I don't see Brady as GOAT because he played in a slightly softer league and I can think of probably 2-3 quarterbacks who would have went undefeated on that Patriots team and NOT lost to the Giants. Steve Young is one of them, Montana, and Elway are the others. I see Elway as the GOAT because his team just wasn't as good but he put up performances that were equal to Montana, Rodgers, Brady, and Young. I don't think Marino would have lost to the Giants with that Patriots team either. None of the aforementioned we're ever suspended for cheating either.
