As a guitarist myself. We sing with our guitars. Stevie ray Vaughan is my idol. He is the music, and the music is him. Feeling man. That's what it is. I've said it many times. Lots of people need to be musicians/guitarist. He had to be. Born to be.

Others have mentioned Lenny. 💯% agree. Lenny - El Mocambo. Live. That whole show is legendary.

So this is a cover of Jimi Hendricks song. Maybe have a listen to the original would help you understand the cover better. Jimi had lyrics but Stevie chose not to use. I was hoping this would be a live version from the El Macombo which shows his passion and how the music just takes him away. There really isn't any song on his records that is better than any live version. His drummer Chris once said that Stevie plays with as much passion and precision every time he picks up the guitar whether in a broom closet in a hotel room or in front of thousands of people. For Stevie it was a matter of don't do unless you are going to do it🎶🎸. His immense respect for the art of making music comes through with everything he does. A good example of this is a video of a Soundcheck the group does at a venue. He plays 3 songs and fortunately someone filmed it. A great behind the scenes look, a yawning and tired Stevie having just rolled out bed, but when he straps in he immediately is transformed. This video has over 23 million views so, you know, it is 🔥🔥🔥🎸🎶‼️

Yes, it's a Hendrix cover. And THIS is the one I use to present to other people to explain what's the difference between Hendrix and a traditional Blues player like SRV. This is not meant as sort of a ranking - it's just the pretty different approach I would like to emphasize.

hi Jone, just ran across u’r SRV reaction, went back, and viewed u’r previous on Stevie too. it was ‘81 when I was intro’d to the music of SRV & DT. i dropped by a friend’s home to pick him up, to go out on the town. but, when I was walking towards his home, I heard the most powerful, yet controlled and skillful guitar playing that I had ever heard. I went on to become a big fan, buying everything SRV that I could find. My friend had a black market cassette tape, recorded probably directly from an LP / album. I never found a retail recording of those exact tunes, but did have all of his records released from that tie forward. i believe STV is, if not the best, one of the best guitarists ever. my opinion, everybody has one, right? I continue to enjoy SRV & DT. Someone bought me he box set when it came available, so I have live performances that until recently weren’t available anywhere else. now, I think everything SRV is available on RU-vid. so, I love to see folks introduced to Stevie for the first time… makes me remember my first time. His tunes still have the raw, uninhibited power, and yet exactness - even his lives, he never misses a note, never messes up, even while crunching on a piece of flying finger work. he was simply amazing! good vid, and reaction @Jone!

Any Stevie is good...great, but Live Stevie is what you really want. You see him go into a receiving zone as soon as he starts playing. It just flows and is really something to witness. Especially with Little Wing. it's amazing. And keep in mind that it isn't an act. it is Real. I guarantee you that when he recorded Little Wing for the record in studio, he played the same as if he were playing for a small crowd of a few hundred or an arena filled with tens of thousands.

You should always do the live versions. Anything at "El Mocambo" is incredible.

One of my favourite Hendrix songs. I like especially that scattered intro, as if the song was still under construction. Prince picked up the idea in Purple Rain.

Watch him play Stevie Ray Vaughn and Double Trouble @ Austin City Limits. There are 2 shows, 1 before he went to rehabilitation and the 2nd show after rehabilitation and the last album. That way you can watch him playing which gives you a completely different perspective of the songs and how he interacts with the music and guitar.

Every true SRV fan will synonymously tell you that reacting to Stevie Ray is ALWAYS to be done LIVE. Watching him perform is over half the fun of experiencing his music. You never get the full experience through the studio recording. He adds so much more to his live performances and you should definitely never take your eyes off of his playing. Good reaction tho.
