SRV and Stevie Wonder were good friends. Stevie Wonder loved that Stevie Ray sang this song. Stevie Wonder also spoke and sang "Amazing Grace" at SRV's funeral. People were in tears. It was a beautiful tribute....
i dont know how many people know this but he had to have special strings made for his guitar because the way he played if he used normal strings they would always break
I can't remember which guitarist it was, but I remember reading an interview with someone who played Stevie's guitar, and asked him about the insane gauge of strings he used. He said Stevie got a sheepish look and said, "Yeah, man, I know. I'd use heavier ones, but, you know, I've got small hands." As though it was a criticism! I'll bet that sonofabitch could have broken a piece of railroad steel in half with one hand.
As a guitar player, I love to listen to talented players for inspiration, and to learn their techniques. But as a musician and music fan I listen to everything and the one thing you can't learn as a player is PASSION. You either have it or you don't. As a pure blues player SRV is the GOAT. But not just because of his technical prowess, but because of his PASSION. Every time he picked up the guitar, he BROUGHT IT. Thank you J for your reactions, and for your passionate love of great music.🙏
One song im surprised isn't getting a lot of requests is SRV..."The Sky is Crying" a live version is best for that song, the solo in it is absolutely insane, you gotta give it a listen man.
wow that's the same thing I just got through telling him not too long ago on one of his other videos he's very genuine with this music I can tell he really digs it I already know all this music he's listening to I grew up on this back in the seventies when I was a kid LOL
I was at work on the day they announced his death. I was so upset I was sent home. It was a horrible day for the whole world. We will never forget him...ever! RIP Stevie...❤😢
I remember waking up to this news when my alarm went off in the morning. I was working in construction at the time before fall semester and was just absolutely floored. My buddy showed up to drive in to the site together and had the same look I had; just looking empty and defeated. Both huge Stevie Ray and Double Trouble fans. Still hurts, what a tragedy.
It was at the very beginning of my freshman year of college. For two weeks in a row, something awful happened on Tuesday. The first week, a draft scare went through the dorm, because Operation Desert Storm was going on. The next Tuesday, the news about Stevie Ray came. We were all terrified of what would happen to Tuesday after that, but thank God, nothing did. Losing him was one of the most crushing celebrity deaths I've ever dealt with. What a loss.
Stevie Ray Vaughan was a fan of Stevie Wonder since middle school, finally got to meet him they became friends, Stevie Wonder sang at Stevie's funeral. Great talents the both of them. Thank you.
Says a lot about how respected he was that at his funeral Stevie Wonder, Bonnie Raitt, and Jackson Browne sang Amazing Grace acappela together. Such a loss.
Agreed. Instantly I could hear the compression...sounded muffled. High frequencies are muted and the keys really suffer. Even with all that working against him Stevie couldn't be contained.
“TALENT WITH A CAPITAL T”......That’s Stevie Ray in a nutshell 🎸🤠🎸 I think even the great Stevie Wonder himself would rock out to this incredible version of one of his greatest hits 🤘😝🤘
Hard News TV 2 ..... THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THAT!!! Stevie Wonder is my all time idol & to see him rock out like that with a man who can only be described as a “god on the guitar” was SENSATIONAL!!! ✅✅✅ I especially loved when “Wonder” thought “screw the keyboard” & just stood up & rocked out ✊️😝 SRV’s version was superb..... Jamel.... If you read this comment mate..... PLEASE do a reaction to THIS version of “Superstition”.... With the 2 Stevie’s 🤘😋🤘🔥🔥🔥
The bassist is playing on the same level of greatness as Stevie is in this particular song. That verse bassline is played to perfection and that's not an easy riff to get THAT smooth...
Tommy Shannon on bass and Chris Layton on drums (both form Double Trouble) are as solid as a rhythm section anyone could ask for. They were the reason SRV turned down David Bowie when David asked Stevie to join his band. That tells you something alone.
I was blessed to see SRV and Double Trouble the year before he died. Jeff Beck’s band was the opening act! What a concert… the good old days. Both bands were unbelievable. RIP Stevie and Jeff
For me, it’s Elvis and then Stevie Ray. Both supernatural. They were both just so raw and true. And thanks for your beautiful spirit. You are helping me through something. I appreciate that and will accept positivity wherever I can find it. I enjoyed that.
This song was originally written for Jeff Beck. Beck was doing session work for Stevie and during a break Stevie caught Jeff fooling around on the drums and loved the beat. So he wrote Superstition around it intending to give it to Jeff. He ended up releasing his own version before Jeff's came out and it was a massive hit.
Great selection tonight!! If ya feelin more bluesy, gotta check him doing " leave my girl alone " live from Austin city limits then you some STANK!!! Thanks!!
White straight guy here Jamal , I just want to say that man to man you my brother from another mother and I love how you read the vibes of the music ! God bless
Was a metal head, saw SRV at Mesker Amphitheater Evansville IN and he blew me away. The Grateful Dead was quick on the heels little did I know. Blew the music doors wide open!
I was going to suggest the OTHER Stevie, Stevie Wonder, as he's been severely lacking here so far and has SO MANY GREAT ONES. But if choosing a cover song, I can suggest good ones but could not pick a better one than this. Nice choice. When ready to play brother Stevie Wonder, I must recommend the masterpiece "As (I'll be loving you always)" . The full length version, not the shortened radio copy. Peace brother.
This is the song that got me into Stevie. 15 years old watching his Austin City Limits on PBS in a motel on vacation. I turned on the TV for a second. Ended up watching the whole dam thing. Never heard anyone like him.
Love Stevie Wonder because that's what I grew up with, but Stevie Ray totally owned this version, and it rocks! So cool that the two Stevies were friends!
Stevie was Awesome ! He alway's Mentioned his Band Member's & Alway's told the Audience Thank you...Alot Dont...The Biggest Loss Ever...Much Much ,Love To S.R.V..💔💕💕💕💕🎶🎵🎼✌😔😉RIP.🙏
If I would have been a member of the band, the hardest thing for me would have been to keep playing, while instead, I would have wanted to stop and just watch this musical master share his gift for all to witness. I still remember the day and where I was when we found out he died.
SRV is one of my favorite all-time guitarists... Eric Clapton and Eddie Van Halen are my two favorites, but SRV is a very very close second. Blues guitar 🎸 players sound so crisp and soulful, it’s hard not to get emotional whenever a great blues guitar player is working their craft. Bonnie Raitt and B.B. King are two of my other favs. Thanks a lot for doing this one Jamel...I thoroughly enjoyed it. ✌🏻
I so love Stevie Ray Vaughan. He died after doing the concert with Eric Clapton in my home town of East Troy Wisconsin. We were a Podunk town of about 1000 people at the time and the Amphitheatre held I believe 50000 because of all the grass seats.
When watching Stevie Live he would literally hypnosis you. It was Magic. He was a Rare shiny Diamond 💎 I’ve seen Stevie so many times I’ve lost count. He was a kind humble man. The best of the best ❤️💔❤️
Jamel, The best part of your reaction videos is your reaction. Your enjoyment is obvious and comes through regardless of the artist you are reviewing. I very much enjoy your channel.
Love your dedication to doing All this great music and just absolutely love STEVIE RAY VAUGHAN please do his "Life without you!". So good, I believe you will really like it! Very special song!
Fortunate enough I saw him when I was 10 years old at the Chandler Ostrich Festival (AZ) Spring 1990 before he passed away. What an experience I'll never forget being 39 years old right now. \m/
SRV was the best and he still lives in us :) The best thing we can do is to continue his wishes and help others to stop using drugs and to educate others and to help them by mentoring. King was his Godfather and King didn't ask for it. He knew to do it because he saw. Albert King took SRV into himself because SRV had the guts to want it and he became a great one we all miss :(
