Good comparison Lucas. I have a Jonsred. Very light saw and when I bought it 45+ years ago, it was the best CC rated saw. I now have a Stihl that I find very heavy. I bought a Dewalt battery saw. Nice and light for cutting brush. Soooooo many saws out there. You always help us decide. That is nice. All the best. Take care and saw on Dude.

Good morning Lucas. The other day Brock posted a video and mentioned his 250. I assume that he meant the MS 250. Anyway, when we moved up here to the mountains I decided that I should buy a new chainsaw. I had talked to several people about what brand to get and everyone said to "Buy a Sthil". So I bought what I could afford at the time which was the MS 250. Long story short, I'll never own another Sthil chainsaw. By the time I get it started I'm too tired to use it, the sprocket at the end of the bar kept freezing up, and when it gets hot it won't start at all. I've been using chainsaws for the last 50 years and I've never used one like this. I have an old Poulan Pro that I bought at a garage sale that sat for 7 years and it fired up after 3 pulls. If I use the Stihl one day, put it up over night, it will take at least 15 pulls to get it going. I'm not writing this to complain but to ask if you've had any problems with starting yours. I've heard other people may have had the same problem. God bless and have a wonderful day. 👍👍🙂
@PeeksPeakHobbyHomestead
@PeeksPeakHobbyHomestead 5 месяцев назад
Wow, yeah, something isn’t right with yours. Mine takes 3-4 pulls tops to start when cold. Usually two with the choke on full, it hits, then I flip to half choke and pull and it fires up and stays running.

@@PeeksPeakHobbyHomestead I've had it back to the shop a couple of times and they say there's nothing wrong with it. I had another guy look at it and he suggested something else and it may have helped just a little but not much. Like I said, I've been using chainsaws for a long time and never ran into one like this. Well, I have enough firewood bucked up and split to last the next 2 winters so it'll probably be sitting for a while now. God bless. 👍🙂

Does your older 041 Farm Boss have a long stroke engine? Older Stihl saws often had long stroke engines with lower RPM that provided more sustained power. That might explain the sense of cutting power you mentioned. Newer Stihl models have short stroke engines and high RPMs. In my humble opinion you need the "Dummy Guards" on any chainsaw regardless of how often you use it. Consider that a chainsaw kerf represents about 3/8" of missing flesh and bone. Surgeons cannot easily replace the missing flesh removed in a 3/8" saw kerf. Always wear the recommended PPE (especially if you are working alone). Upgrading to a new saw should also be considered a safety upgrade. I am considering a Stihl electric saw because it reduces the fire hazard of a hot muffler. Although my acreage does suggest a gas saw I am not interesting in being responsible for a wildfire and few extra batteries may be cheap insurance against that. Regardless of my comment on chainsaw safety your video was very interesting and well done! Are you using the Stihl 2 in 1 sharpener tool - they are amazing. If I were buying a new Stihl that is bigger I would look at the MS362 or MS391 - I use a MS260 and it can handle 12-16" firewood. I do advocate a Canon saw bar because they last and do not flex.
@PeeksPeakHobbyHomestead
@PeeksPeakHobbyHomestead 5 месяцев назад
Yes, you’re exactly right about all of the safety information. You’ll see some changes and upgrades very soon. If I’m going to be using saws more often I’ve got to take it seriously. I don’t know the stroke of the 041 but you’re probably right. Thanks for watching!

First off you should never push your saw. Invest in a two in one sharpener from Stihl. Your chain should pull you down as fast as it can cut it. By pushing you are only wearing out parts. Then go buy a 362 Stihl and you will be happy. I have a 026 and a 461, you have a small saw so the 362 is a great mid saw. You'd have the perfect setup.

A muffler mod in itself isn't going to do anything for performance at all. You still haven't added anymore fuel, changed the timing, added anymore compression, anything that actually makes a difference. I wouldn't throw good money away after bad. That saw is a mediocre saw AT BEST. If it were me, I'd just spend the 600.00 or so and get at least a 261. The 261 is Stihl's entry level pro saw. It has a magnesium case which is better for cooling, an adjustable oiler, which is important, and even a compression release for easier starting if you need it. I am guessing based on your comments that you're getting into a partnership with Stihl or Husky or something like that? If that's the case, good for you, they'll provide you with better saws than either of the current two offerings that you have now.
@PeeksPeakHobbyHomestead
@PeeksPeakHobbyHomestead 5 месяцев назад
While I don’t entirely agree with your theory about no way to make a difference with a muffler, I totally agree with your overall point. I have made a decision on a saw and should have a video posting next week about it. As for the new “deal”, that announcement is coming next week too! Thanks for watching and commenting! 👊
