Greetings from MI, USA 👋 You stated that the weather is dry. I had a thought while watching video. Soak one hoof in warm water while trimming another hoof. This way help soften the surface of the hoof enough that the tools will more effective at trimming. I admit that I am no expect, but have been watching other hoof trimming channels where moist weather made hoofs softer. Keep up the great work👍🐎
@@adelaidebarone3807 Yes, I have. I had a horse that needed his feet soaked everyday. It's easier when you are doing farrier work because one leg is lifted so the other 3 are not normally moving around so much. For the hoof with the abscess putting some iodine or other antiseptic in there will also help with the abscess. In the event that your horse is just a bucket hater they actually make boots that you pull on over the horse's hoof and go slightly up the leg just for the purpose of soaking hooves. Soaking hooves has been something horse owners have done for decades and decades.
Originally from Mi, lived in Nevada for over 40 years. Its standard for most of us to flood the area around the feeder for several hours before the short comes. Real damage can be done to a too dry hoof.
Being barefoot allows their hooves to wear naturally, and is cheaper than shoeing. If the horse is not being asked to work much, shoes really aren't necessary. (Shoes are a good idea if the horse is being asked to work in such a way that the hoof wears more than natural, because if the horse's hoof wears down faster than it grows, it will lead to lameness.)
